Book Synopsis The Clown in You by : Caroline Dream
Download or read book The Clown in You written by Caroline Dream and published by Alejandro Carlos Navarro Gonzalez. This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "THE CLOWN IN YOU" is a clowning manual for students, teachers and practitioners. It contains all kinds of valuable clown knowledge; both practical and theoretical. Within its pages readers will find all the basic principles of clowning, first-hand clowning experiences, tried and tested clown games and exercises, quotes from interviews Caroline held with professional clowns, examples of clown improvisations, and explanations of the clown philosophy underlying all the comic techniques used by clowns. The book thus provides an unprecedented insight into the heart of clowning and throws a fresh light on all the skills, audacity and dedication needed to encounter, encourage and set free one's clown. Caroline has worked with clowning from the inside out and the outside in. She writes from the perspective of a life spent investigating her art, both as a professional clown and as an international clown teacher. This is a must read for anyone wanting to learn more about the art and practice of clowning, or for anyone simply interested in becoming a healthier, happier and less inhibited person. ""Discovering your clown and allowing yourself complete freedom of expression is an addictive experience; an adventure sport, whose only drawback is that when you're on your way home you feel an urgent desire to keep on practising it."" CONTENTS The first three chapters introduce the reader to the art and craft of clowning as practiced by professional clowns throughout the world today. They also clarify all the misconceptions that have arisen around the clown that in reality hinder a student's ability to be funny. Chapters four to ten tackle specific areas of clown technique. Each chapter contains explanations of the reasons for, and reasoning behind, each element of the technique, plus guidelines and examples of how it all works on a practical level. Chapter eleven explores one of the least discussed aspects of clowning; the most common fears students face and how they can be dealt with. The final chapter examines the necessary ingredients for clowning success. It also covers the phenomenon of "flying," finding one's own unique comic wings. WHAT THE PROFESSIONALS HAVE SAID ABOUT THIS BOOK: " The Clown in You cuts past all the jargon and unhelpful generalizations about clowns and tackles the clown's creative process with the kind of insight that can only come from a seasoned performer. Highly recommended for both beginners and experienced clowns." "JOHN TOWSEN, author of "Clowns," director of The (Very) Physical Comedy Institute, U.S.A." "Caroline Dream's superbly documented 30 years of experience as a performer and trainer is an invaluable source of reference for professionals, hobbyists and teachers. One of the most illuminating and insightful clown development guidebooks that I have read." It's a great resource for helping clowns discover deeper layers of their character and creating powerful material. Packed with invaluable gems for understanding and creating in the art of clowning." "ROB TORRES, clown, The Big Apple Circus, U.S.A." "In this book I've found fantastic exercises and material which will inspire clowns to play and, most importantly, help keep their idiot present." "AITOR BASAURI, Spymonkey, UK" "This book is a shortcut to your inner clown, a seductive invitation to joy and freedom, a lodestar for highly effective human development."" By the icy waters where drowned Chinese railroad workers lay to rest, DREAM OF THE LAKE questions how our family stories slip away from us with each passing generation. Will our memories be preserved, or will we become characters in our children's children's retelling of history? These deeply resonant poems are songs of survival, navigating inheritance, identity, and language as they recover voices lost to time and lost to the lake. Poetry.

Download or read book After Caroline written by Kay Hooper and published by Bantam. This book was released on 2009-09-16 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joanna Flynn was lucky to be alive. Twice in a matter of minutes she almost died on a patch of oil-slicked highway. But when the doctors told her that she would suffer no lasting effects, they were wrong. For that night the dream began... It was only of a house perched high above the sea, of a ticking clock and the lingering scent of roses. Yet night after night it awoke Joanna with a sense of panic. Its terror lingered throughout her days, urging her to do something—but what? Then two strangers on the street called her Caroline, and Joanna knew she had to find an explanation for what was happening, or she'd lose her mind. What she finally uncovered was an obituary for a woman named Caroline McKenna—a woman who looked enough like her to be her twin, a woman who was killed in a car accident on the same day Joanna should have perished. Now her torturous nightmares and a tenuous connection have brought Joanna three thousand miles across country to the town where Caroline lived--and died. Almost everyone has stories to tell about Cliffside's leading lady, and yet no one seems to have known her. Was she the shy wife or the seductress of men? The devoted mother or the selfish beauty? Too soon Joanna realizes that it's not her sanity at stake, but her life. For unraveling the mystery of Caroline means uncovering the secrets in this picturesque town, secrets someone may have killed to hide. And that someone appears all too willing to kill again.

Download or read book Lasting Love written by Caroline Wright and published by Rodale Kids. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This gorgeous picture-book meditation on loss and family love is a useful tool for children navigating a first experience with death. When a family member or another loved one becomes ill, one of the scariest aspects of their sickness is the way they may change, both physically and in spirit. The feeling of loss can come so early as the person becomes more difficult to recognize. It's a hard thing for anyone to understand, and especially so for a child. This book offers a helpful visualization of a sick person's essence as a friendly creature who remains strong and warm, even as the illness progresses. The creature is always around and never tries to cheer the child up, but only serves to keep them company. Caroline Wright and Willow Heath clearly understand that, like the creature, a book cannot "fix" a painful situation or even make it a little better. Instead they simply reflect the pain of loss back to the reader and help them understand that they are not alone.

Chapters 4 to 7 cover specific areas of clown technique . Each chapter contains explanations of the reasons for, and reasoning behind, each element of the technique, plus exercises and examples of how it all works on a practical level. Book Synopsis Many Points of Me by : Caroline Gertler
Download or read book Many Points of Me written by Caroline Gertler and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Sensitive and thoughtful—a story about loss, friendship, and the beauty of self-discovery.”—Rebecca Stead, Newbery Medal–winning author of When You Reach Me When Georgia finds a secret sketch her late father—a famed artist—left behind, the discovery leads her down a path that may reshape everything holding her family and friends together. Caroline Gertler’s debut is a story about friendship, family, grief, and creativity. Fans of Rebecca Stead’s Goodbye Stranger, Dan Gemeinhart’s The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise, and E. L. Konigsburg’s From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler will find a new friend in Georgia. Georgia Rosenbloom’s father was a famous artist. His most well-known paintings were a series of asterisms—patterns of stars—that he created. One represented a bird, one himself, and one Georgia’s mother. There was supposed to be a fourth asterism, but Georgia’s father died before he could paint it. Georgia’s mother and her best friend, Theo, are certain that the last asterism would’ve been of Georgia, but Georgia isn’t so sure. She isn’t sure about anything anymore—including whether Theo is still her best friend. Then Georgia finds a sketch her father made of her. One with pencil points marked on the back—just like those in the asterism paintings. Could this finally be the proof that the last painting would have been of her? Georgia’s quest to prove her theory takes her around her Upper West Side neighborhood in New York City and to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which was almost a second home to Georgia, having visited favorite artists and paintings there constantly with her father. But the sketch leads right back to where she’s always belonged—with the people who love her no matter what.
Book Synopsis Caroline Walker - In Every Dream Home by : Marco Livingstone
Download or read book Caroline Walker - In Every Dream Home written by Marco Livingstone and published by Anomie Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08-19 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Caroline Walker (b. 1982, Dunfermline) has established herself as one of the UKs most exciting figurative painters of her generation working internationally today. By means of an elegant and seductive yet forthright use of paint, Walker makes paintings that explore ideas of gender in relation to architecture. With a particular interest in femininity, she addresses peoples physical, psychological, emotional, and social relationships with the buildings in which they spend time whether at home, at work, at leisure or in more mysterious circumstances. By depicting women undertaking all manner of activities, from everyday chores, sleeping, and sunbathing to more obscure or dramatic scenarios, she takes the viewer inside peoples private worlds and states of mind. Some of the women depicted seem lonely, bored, tired, or depressed, while others appear playful and relaxed, whether alone or in company. Often it is unclear who the women are or what their relationship is with the premises in which they are located, raising notions of identity, class, and roles acted out at different times in peoples lives. As many of the locations depicted are luxury houses and apartments, it is hard to say if a particular person is the owner or a tenant, a guest or a maid, opening up economic, political, social, and cultural questions about the paintings are we looking at the super rich at leisure, house-sitters, holidaymakers, domestic workers, squatters, or actors on set? While the paintings are often charming and appealing, there is regularly something odd or unexpected underlying them occasionally verging on the threatening or dangerous. Sometimes dream homes can be anything but The research and development for Walkers paintings is an elaborate process. Involving numerous life models and actors, she finds properties around the world in which to stage photo shoots. Carefully chosen costumes, accessories and props are brought along, and Walker directs her cast around the property. Following this, the artist makes a number of drawings and oil sketches before settling on a composition to work up into a final painting back in her studio. It is a process that clearly helps to generate the cinematic and theatrical atmosphere that pervades her work. Alongside film influences ranging from Hitchcock to Lynch and recent Hollywood productions, Walker is inspired by artists including Eric Fischl, the Scottish colorists, and current painting from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as by the constructed photography of Hannah Starkey, Gregory Crewdson, and Jeff Wall. Full of contemporary and historical references and influences, Walkers practice is an engaging journey into the modern female condition and the female gaze. In Every Dream Home the first monograph of Walkers work features around fifty key paintings, oil sketches, and ink drawings alongside an introductory text by art historian, critic, and curator Marco Livingstone, an essay by independent critic and curator Jane Neal, and an interview with the artist by editor and curator Matt Price.
Book Synopsis The Dream Squad by : Caroline Macrory
Download or read book The Dream Squad written by Caroline Macrory and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2020-11-27 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think about this: we spend a third of our life sleeping and dreaming, yet we know very little about this part of our existence. Many people forget their dreams as soon as they wake up, or dismiss them as meaningless and insignificant. Not me. I have discovered the secret of dream lucidity (or magic dreaming). This means you're aware that you're dreaming and can control what happens. The more you practice, the better you become at it. You can choose where you go, what you do and who you meet (well, usually). So you see, there is a whole other dimension out there, waiting to be discovered, and trust me - it's a thousand times more thrilling than the 'awake' world. But you have to be careful. It can also be very dangerous... Jack is the first to start magic dreaming. He learns the art during visits to his Great Granny Georgia. The exploration of this new world requires its own vocabulary and Jack provides a glossary at the start of the book to help the reader understand terms such as Dream Maps, Dream Symbols and Anchor Objects. One night Jack is astonished to encounter his school friend Evie in a shared dream. Later they are joined by Mouse and Betsy. The four friends learn the secret of meeting up in dreams and together they form the Dream Squad. Their adventures take a dark turn when they encounter Dream Trapping. This involves locking someone in a dream or nightmare so that they don't wake up in the 'real' world. The person behind this rare but terrifying phenomenon is their ruthless head teacher, Miss Longbottom. She is on a mission to gain power over the children in the school. She is assisted by her black vulture, the most dangerous bird in the dream world and a 'carrier' of nightmares. The Dream Squad is soon immersed in a dangerous and exhilarating quest to free Mr Burley, their chemistry teacher, who has been 'trapped' in a dream by Miss Longbottom. To prevent themselves from becoming imprisoned with him they must face and conquer their own personal fears. They soon discover that Miss Longbottom has her own demons, and that these need to be overcome too.
