Book excerpt: This book is a combination of an editorial written by myself for the literary magazine, JAW, co-produced by myself and a friend for 2 years, the beginning of a screenplay, some poetry, and several short stories. I started the book 9 years ago as the thesis for my undergraduate BA degree which I received from Goddard College, VT. Originally it also included a survey of one novelist, Elizabeth Berg, and three famous women poets, in order to place myself in the field of writing and compare/contrast the growth pattern my writing took through the years. I elected to take those out, to avoid any copyright issues, and prove this book is about a 'dream fullfillment' and what I hope to be the beginning of my book publishing career. As a single Mom of three boys now for 8 years I have struggled to succeed and have grown in ways which I never thought possible. I finished my BA in English and Women's History, and moved on to pursue my MA in Teaching, which I graduated with on September 11th, 2007. Although, I 'appear' to be poor, I am filled with 'riches'--spiritual ones! I hope this book serves as an inspiration for all single Mom's--to never give up on your dreams, they are there, waiting for you to find them and if we are to keep 'hope' alive for us and our children, we must not give up.

Book excerpt: In this international bestseller, father and advocate for Autism awareness Arthur Fleischmann blends his daughter Carly’s own words with his story of getting to know his remarkable daughter—after years of believing that she was unable to understand or communicate with him. At the age of two, Carly Fleischmann was diagnosed with severe autism and an oral motor condition that prevented her from speaking. Doctors predicted that she would never intellectually develop beyond the abilities of a small child. Carly remained largely unreachable through the years. Then, at the age of ten, she had a breakthrough. While working with her devoted therapists, Carly reached over to their laptop and typed “HELP TEETH HURT,” much to everyone’s astonishment. Although Carly still struggles with all the symptoms of autism, she now has regular, witty, and profound conversations on the computer with her family and her many thousands of supporters online. One of the first books to explore firsthand the challenges of living with autism, Carly’s Voice brings readers inside a once-secret world in the company of an inspiring young woman who has found her voice and her mission

Book excerpt: Inklings from Cape Cod is an eclectic mix of traditional and non-traditional writing lessons and the pieces that they inspired. Created primarily during a week at a Cape Cod summer workshop, the book's selections are authored by students in 6th through 12th grade. The writing pieces featured in Inklings span the gamut from six word stories, to dramatic drafts and eclectic exercises to crafty characterizations, private poetry, wordly wonderings, fabulous fiction, noteworthy nonfiction, lively letters, sensational settings, toddler tantrums, articulate alliteration, and trustworthy teaching techniques. This collection, an accolade to the young authors, has something for readers of all ages, writers of all levels, and teachers who like to be wowed. This coffee table text is unique with motivating mini writing lessons accompanied by the inspiringly creative student responses. The editor is a seasoned, award winning teacher and published journalist. Thirty-six extremely motivated, enthusiastic Cape Cod summer writing workshop students inspired teacher Stephanie Boosahda to create this anthology. On the third day of the five day workshop she found herself again saying, "Those pieces were awesome. Seriously, they should be published." Responding with total silence, the students from as far away as Michigan and Kansas joined Cape Cod students in letting Stephanie's words echo, "Those pieces ... should be published." So, adventure into the diverse creative writing of these exceptional 6th through 11th graders, and see why well-know authors have commented:  "A joy to read, and an awesome voyage into the creative minds of young, imaginative writers..." - John Prophet, author of the Casey Miller Mysteries  "Fascinating and fun to read, with everything from six-word stories to longer pieces, "Inklings" demonstrates the many ways an inspired teacher can empower students to discover their creativity and develop their own unique and powerful voices." - Leslie Meier, author of the Lucy Stone Mystery series  " ... If these young writers continue honing their craft, the future of American literature looks very bright, indeed."- Elizabeth Moisan, author of Master of the Sweet Trade  "These collected voices blend together in a chorale of accomplishment. What a treat to read. What a joy to know that future novelists, memoirists, and poets have been fostered in this way to enchant tomorrow's readers." - Kathryn C. Dunlap, Director; Buzzards Bay Writing Project, Nat'l Writing Project; University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth  "Stephanie's design of the Workshop clearly provided an atmosphere of safety, trust, and risk-taking in writing that is obvious in the breadth and depth of the selections in this anthology. A wonderful read and a great resource." -K. Victoria Kazer-Townsend, retired English AP professor Delve into Inklings, enjoy, and be inspired. There's something for everyone in this eclectic read.

And a reputation is solidified that you won’t ever be able to escape. Everything you do and say, and everyone you spend your time with, matters. Katie Mills knows that. She gets it. That’s why she tried so hard to get in with the cool girls at school. And why she was so devastated when those efforts found her detained for shoplifting and laughed out of cheer squad tryouts. But Katie has more to worry about than just fitting in. Her parents are divorced and always fighting. Her sister never has time for her. And her friends all seem to be drifting apart. Even worse? The boy she has a crush on is dating the mean girl at school. Everything is a mess, and Katie doesn’t feel like she has control over any of it. Certainly not over her weight, which has always topped out at slightly pudgier than normal—at least, according to her mother. So when she happens to catch one of the popular girls throwing up in the bathroom one day, it sparks an idea. A match that quickly engulfs her life in flames. Is there any going back once she gets started down this path? And would she even want to if she could?
