Book excerpt: "Cancer screening programs aim to reduce illness and death resulting from cancer through an organised approach to screening. Australia has three cancer screening programs: BreastScreen Australia ; National Cervical Screening Program ; National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. Measures of participation in cancer screening programs tell us how many people participate in these programs, and whether factors such as remoteness, socioeconomic status or Indigenous status mean that people are more likely to miss out on the benefits of screening. The latest national participation data for Australia's breast and cervical cancer screening programs are for 2011 and 2012, and have been released ahead of other cancer screening data to provide early access to this information. Detailed analyses are provided annually in comprehensive monitoring reports, scheduled for release in May 2014 (National Cervical Screening Program) and October 2014 (BreastScreen Australia)"--Website.

Book Synopsis Assessment of Cancer Screening by : Pamela M. Marcus
Download or read book Assessment of Cancer Screening written by Pamela M. Marcus and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cancer screening is a prominent strategy in cancer control in the United States, yet the ability to correctly interpret cancer screening data eludes many researchers, clinicians, and policy makers. This open access primer rectifies that situation by teaching readers, in simple language and with straightforward examples, why and how the population-level cancer burden changes when screening is implemented, and how we assess whether that change is of benefit. This book provides an in-depth look at the many aspects of cancer screening and its assessment, including screening phenomena, performance measures, population-level outcomes, research designs, and other important and timely topics. Concise, accessible, and focused, Assessment of Cancer Screening: A Primer is best suited to those with education or experience in clinical research or public health in the United States - no previous knowledge of cancer screening assessment is necessary. This is the first text dedicated to cancer screening theory and methodology to be published in 20 years.

Book Synopsis Colorectal Cancer Screening by : Australian Health Technology Advisory Committee
Download or read book Colorectal Cancer Screening written by Australian Health Technology Advisory Committee and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Australia, colorectal cancer, CRC, is the most commonly occurring internal cancer affecting both men and women, and the second most common cause of cancer-related death. AHTAC has undertaken this review to assess the evidence on the benefits, risks and costs of CRC screening, and to make recommendations to the Minister on whether a program of population screening should be introduced in Australia. The report has assessed the scientific evidence from the three completed international randomised controlled trials and, where randomised controlled trials are not available, the results of strong and intermediate strength studies. On balance, AHTAC considers that, on the basis of the published evidence and following its assessment of CRC against the Wilson and Jungner WHO criteria, screening for CRC in the Australian setting shows sufficient promise to warrant exploration through the establishment of pilot and feasibility studies. The report outlines the requirements, goals and objectives of any organised screening program and in doing so, highlights particular issues that need to be investigated through pilot and screening studies for CRC, before any final decision can be made about CRC screening in the Australian context.
