For volume I see: https: //www.createspace.com/4525803 This textbook (along with vol I) has been peer review and received 4.9 out of a maximum score of five. Reviewer's Comments This is a basic text covering the essential topics in a coversational, engaging style. I would recommend this book to be used for the first semester of a first-year physics course. While this is best suited for students who are taking calculus concurrently, basic ideas in calculus are also covered for the students who have less mathematical background. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive survey of the mathematical concepts and principles of industrial mathematics. Its purpose is to provide students and professionals with an understanding of the fundamental mathematical principles used in Industrial Mathematics/OR in modeling problems and application solutions. All the concepts presented in each chapter have undergone the learning scrutiny of the author and his students. The illustrative material throughout the book was refined for student comprehension as the manuscript developed through its iterations, and the chapter exercises are refined from the previous year's exercises.

Book excerpt: This technical note reports on the attitude determination of Air Force Rocket No. A31.603 on which an ion emission experiment was performed. Two orthogonal magnetometers, one facing forward along the rocket spin axis and the other facing sideways, provide magnetic field component data. The bias-offset and scaling (signal conversion) factor are not given, but can be determined in a sinusoidal approximation. The algorithm used for generating magnetic pitch angles is discussed and an error analysis is provided. In a local vertical coordinate system, two sets of elevation angles are found for the tumbling rocket, and the set that satisfies an initial condition exactly is the correct one. The deviation of the rocket tumbling plane from the vertical plane can be determined at the times of closest encounter of the magnetic field vector and rocket vector. The deviation at all times can be approximately determined by sinusoidal curve fitting with tumbling frequency. The angles between the rocket vector and moonlight vector during the instants of moonviews at the onboard camera are also calculated. (Author).

Book excerpt: Public and academic debate about ‘porn culture’ is proliferating. Ironically, what is often lost in these debates is a sense of what is specific about pornography. By focusing on pornography’s mainstream – contemporary commercial products for a heterosexual male audience – Everyday Pornography offers the opportunity to reconsider what it is that makes pornography a specific form of industrial practice and genre of representation. Everyday Pornography presents original work from scholars from a range of academic disciplines (Media Studies, Law, Sociology, Psychology, Women’s Studies, Political Science), introducing new methodologies and approaches whilst reflecting on the ongoing value of older approaches. Among the topics explored are: the porn industry’s marketing practices (spam emails, reviews) and online organisation commercial sex in Second Life the pornographic narratives of phone sex and amateur videos the content of best-selling porn videos how the male consumer is addressed by pornography, represented within the mainstream, understood by academics and contained by legislation. This collection places a particular emphasis on anti-pornography feminism, a movement which has been experiencing a revival since the mid-2000s. Drawing on the experiences of activists alongside academics, Everyday Pornography offers an opportunity to explore the intellectual and political challenges of anti-pornography feminism and consider its relevance for contemporary academic debate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of nonlinear wave equations in the absence of shocks began in the 1960s. Despite a great deal of recent activity in this area, some major issues remain unsolved, such as sharp conditions for the global existence of solutions with arbitrary initial data, and the global phase portrait in the presence of periodic solutions and traveling waves. This book, based on lectures presented by the author at George Mason University in January 1989, seeks to present the sharpest results to date in this area. The author surveys the fundamental qualitative properties of the solutions of nonlinear wave equations in the absence of boundaries and shocks. These properties include the existence and regularity of global solutions, strong and weak singularities, asymptotic properties, scattering theory and stability of solitary waves. Wave equations of hyperbolic, Schrodinger, and KdV type are discussed, as well as the Yang-Mills and the Vlasov-Maxwell equations. The book offers readers a broad overview of the field and an understanding of the most recent developments, as well as the status of some important unsolved problems. Intended for mathematicians and physicists interested in nonlinear waves, this book would be suitable as the basis for an advanced graduate-level course.

This book is a guide aimed at helping the analyst to choose a model and use it consistently. A sound analysis of techniques is proposed and the presentation can be extended to most decision and evaluation models as a "decision aiding methodology".

Book excerpt: This book presents results on the case of the Ramsey problem for the uncountable: When does a partition of a square of an uncountable set have an uncountable homogeneous set? This problem most frequently appears in areas of general topology, measure theory, and functional analysis. Building on his solution of one of the two most basic partition problems in general topology, the ``S-space problem,'' the author has unified most of the existing results on the subject and made many improvements and simplifications. The first eight sections of the book require basic knowldege of naive set theory at the level of a first year graduate or advanced undergraduate student. The book may also be of interest to the exclusively set-theoretic reader, for it provides an excellent introduction to the subject of forcing axioms of set theory, such as Martin's axiom and the Proper forcing axiom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will provide readers with an overview of some of the major developments in current research in algebraic topology. Representing some of the leading researchers in the field, the book contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Algebraic Topology, held at Northwestern University in March, 1988. Several of the lectures at the conference were expository and will therefore appeal to topologists in a broad range of areas. The primary emphasis of the book is on homotopy theory and its applications. The topics covered include elliptic cohomology, stable and unstable homotopy theory, classifying spaces, and equivariant homotopy and cohomology. Geometric topics--such as knot theory, divisors and configurations on surfaces, foliations, and Siegel spaces--are also discussed. Researchers wishing to follow current trends in algebraic topology will find this book a valuable resource.
