Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vibrant South Georgia scene was pure Americana-a picturesque, old-fashioned grocery store next to a thriving jook joint in the heart of a South Albany African-American community. Originally more secluded, this nucleus of the neighborhood became a familiar sight to all Albany residents with the opening in the 1980s of a roadway that passed by the scene and across a new bridge over the nearby Flint River. The waters of the Flint proved to be much too near in 1994, when a catastrophic flood damaged beyond repair the grocery, jook, and hundreds of homes along the river. Deeply touched by that enormous community loss, Mary Sterner Lawson used her own 1987 photographs to paint a watercolor of the once-flourishing South Albany scene. She never imagined how overwhelming the public response would be when the painting was exhibited in the main lobby of a busy local hospital in 1996. A veritable flood of reminiscences came her way-tales of childhood memories, community gatherings, friendships, brotherhood, families, prostitution, moonshine, and murder. Inspired by the community members who encouraged and aided her efforts, Lawson began recording the rich recollections. June Bug's Grocery and the Cornfield Jook registers these voices of the community, the voices behind the painting.

This reminiscent story will take you back to a time before indoor malls became obsolete and record stores barely existed. In this novel, Kevin moves to Pennsylvania, and joins the army after the Marines. Shortly after joining the army, Kevin’s army unit sets for deployment training in Washington and for eventual deployment abroad. After training and before traveling overseas, Kevin’s army unit grants leave. Kevin reunites with his old female Marine buddy, Toni for Washington State sightseeing. During Kevin’s vacation time, the two remanences on old times, and like old times, conduct in rowdy behavior which could jeopardize their liberty with the police. The two lead on into sitcom-worthy situations, too strange to be true, and encounter unusual people. Their endeavors cover anything from, “tall tales from the sea” to street fighting. As former Marines, some may find the characters’ mannerisms jaded, but they will do almost anything for amusement.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will. —Romans 12:2 What does this verse mean to born-again Christians? What should it mean in the actions of our daily lives? Renew Your Mind; A Fifty-Two-Week Journey Applying the Bible to Everyday Life looks at biblical answers in the five most challenging areas of an individual’s life: finances, friends/relationships, time allotment, priorities/denying self, and knowing God. Each week, the author relates a thought-provoking, memorable story or example invoking biblical principles and verses, giving an assignment for the reader to apply the weekly lesson to the applicable categories to begin the transformation of how we think and act toward others. Renew Your Mind is a thoroughly entertaining must-read year-long devotional that will change the way you look at Christianity and our responsibility to others in our faith, our actions, and our belief systems. The Question or a Statement” to my friends, I asked for their comments, and I have included some of them in the opening of this book. I quote part of the comment from Winfield which has hit home. “Hey Rich. Congratulation on the for book, it brings back memories, you asked for comments on the script, well I can tell you that the story presentation and the way it was writte4n is pure Richard...People who do not know you.. . Need to know you first... I think you have enough material about you, your family and your works... be separated into two books. My take.” This confirmed my initial thoughts. After starting my book, not to dwell on my personal life it was autobiographical and my involvement in the building of a new church. This book is an expanded version of my daily life, works, and D.I.Y. projects as I travel the path.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anything Goes is an unusual and a hilarious collection of short stories by the author Martin Dec Haynes F.R.C.S. who is also a poet, a surgeon, golfer, philatelist and humorist. Because of the author’s vast working experience lots of his stories have a medical theme, but you can rest assured that, coming from Haynes, they are not run-of-the-mill, nay rather they are extremely esoteric and virtually beyond belief. Near the end of the book the writing style takes a detour and a few yarns are narrated as if by idiot types who misspell words, or some of the words are written as they are pronounced, adding greatly to the farcical effect. The last story is about a young man who leaves his wife behind in The Islands, and goes to London to study medicine successfully; then he divorces his island-wife from a distance and takes a spanking new English wife. He is now about to return to his native island but his grandfather is waiting at the airport with a shotgun to blow out his brains. Fortunately, other family members are able to avert the disaster. All in all the collection is a riproaring read.
