Book excerpt: A very large proportion of commercial and industrial concerns in the UK find their business competitiveness dependent on huge quantities of already installed, legacy IT. Often the nature of their business is such that, to remain competitive, they have to be able to change their business processes. Sometimes the required change is radical and revolutionary, but more often the required change is incremental. For such incremental change, a major systems engineering problem arises. The cost and delay involved in changing the installed IT to meet the changed business requirements is much too high. In order to address this issue the UK Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) set up, in 1996, a managed research programme entitled Systems Engineering for Business Process Change (SEBPC). I was appointed as co-ordinator of the programme. The overall aim of this new managed research programme was to release the full potential of IT as an enabler of business process change, and to overcome the disabling effects which the build-up of legacy systems has on such change. As such, this aim addressed a stated objective of the Information Technology and Computer Science (IT&CS) part of EPSRC to encourage research at a system level.

This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Engineering - General, grade: MERIT, Ghana Telecom University College (GRADUATE SCHOOL), course: Engineering Project management, language: English, abstract: The dynamism, especially in the Ghanaian market has forced players at all levels to consider competitive strategies such as business process re-engineering to rightly position them in the market. Also, the intense world-wide competition in today’s service industry motivates many companies to reengineer their old fashioned processes to achieve new heights of success. The study is therefore undertaken to investigate what could be the root cause employee resistance to change when deploying strategies such as Business process reengineering in Opportunity International Savings and Loans Ltd. The study was designed as a quantitative survey, with questionnaires as the means of data gathering. Using the simple random sampling method, the study selected 300 respondents from OISL, out of a population of 750. The simple random sampling method was used to avoid bias in the sampling and ultimately, the results. The study used the SPSS and Microsoft Excel to analyse the data. From the analyses of data, the study concluded that the principal causes of employee resistance were inadequate training, the perception that the change process is an imposition and the changes being inconvenient the daily routine of employees. In addition technical hitches and wrong timing leads to resistance to change. Using the ADKAR model, the study also concluded that employee involvement, communication and training are clearly the weaknesses of the change management methodology of the case study organization. The study also concluded that necessary support OISL management provide for employees during the implementation of business process re-engineering were far lower than the expectations of employees. The study therefore recommended that adequate training and development, democratization of the change process, better communication strategy to overcome resistance to change.

The systematic use of memory maps helps aid in the efficient recall of information and can boost confidence during the exam. Well-crafted practice questions are fantastic study aids that can be used to track your progress as you learn new concepts, introduce you to the complex sentence structure that is likely to appear on the exam, and concentrate your studies by domain, essentially preparing you to pass the very challenging PMI-PBA® Exam in the allotted four hours. In addition to study hints and exam topics, this book provides references to tools and techniques that should be incorporated into your work immediately. For each of the five domains outlined in the PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)® Examination Content Outline 2013 (the ECO), twenty practice questions test your knowledge. Also included is a challenging 200-question practice exam, which is representative of the actual exam. To enhance your studies, a timed, online simulated exam is also provided. At the end of the simulated exam, you can see your score per the number of questions you answered correctly. These exam questions are crafted to foster learning and reinforce content; they are not obscure or overly complicated, but rather are representative of the actual exam. Knowing what to do must be translated into doing what you know. This book helps you prepare for the PMI-PBA® exam by instilling knowledge and encouraging critical thinking. As a result, the skills attained can lead to improved project success and outcomes, and you’ll have a much stronger understanding of the material, along with the tools and techniques of business analysis.
