Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller “Funny and smart as hell” (Bill Gates), Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half showcases her unique voice, leaping wit, and her ability to capture complex emotions with deceptively simple illustrations. FROM THE PUBLISHER: Every time Allie Brosh posts something new on her hugely popular blog Hyperbole and a Half the internet rejoices. This full-color, beautifully illustrated edition features more than fifty percent new content, with ten never-before-seen essays and one wholly revised and expanded piece as well as classics from the website like, “The God of Cake,” “Dogs Don’t Understand Basic Concepts Like Moving,” and her astonishing, “Adventures in Depression,” and “Depression Part Two,” which have been hailed as some of the most insightful meditations on the disease ever written. Brosh’s debut marks the launch of a major new American humorist who will surely make even the biggest scrooge or snob laugh. We dare you not to. FROM THE AUTHOR: This is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. I tried to write a long, third-person summary that would imply how great the book is and also sound vaguely authoritative—like maybe someone who isn’t me wrote it—but I soon discovered that I’m not sneaky enough to pull it off convincingly. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book: Pictures Words Stories about things that happened to me Stories about things that happened to other people because of me Eight billion dollars* Stories about dogs The secret to eternal happiness* *These are lies. Perhaps I have underestimated my sneakiness!

Download or read book Burrito Recipes written by Katy Lyons and published by Katy Lyons. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A burro is the Spanish word for donkey. The origins of the burrito is that a man from Chihuahua, Mexico named Juan Mendez would sell food in cart pulled by a donkey. He invented the food as a street food that could be held in your hand and eaten and he called it a burrito for "little donkey." A burrito is a dish made with flour tortilla wrapped in a tube shape around various ingredients such as meats, cheese, sauces, beans, rice and veggies. After stuffing, the tortilla is lightly grilled or steamed. Burritos can be eaten by hand, or with a fork and knife. Burritos can also be served covered in a sauce that is either savory or spicy. Burritos are often filled with a combination of a protein, starch, vegetables, cheese and sauce. Some of the popular proteins used in a burrito is beef, chicken, tofu or pork. The starch can be rice and/or beans. The vegetables are usually lettuce, tomatoes or onions. And the sauces are traditional Mexican sauces such as salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, or cream. In New Mexico, Americans invented the very popular "Breakfast Burrito." This new culinary sensation began so that morning commuters had a handy pocket to eat their breakfast on the go. This cookbook has a wide variety of burrito recipes, both traditional and inspired.

Book Synopsis Spanish Vocabulary by : David Brodsky
Download or read book Spanish Vocabulary written by David Brodsky and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2008-12-01 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike other vocabulary guides that require the rote memorization of literally thousands of words, this book starts from the premise that using the etymological connections between Spanish and English words--their common derivations from Latin, Greek, and other languages--is the most effective way to acquire and remember vocabulary. This approach is suitable for beginners as well as for advanced students. Teachers of the language will also find much material that can be used to help motivate their students to acquire, and retain, Spanish vocabulary. Spanish Vocabulary is divided into four parts and four annexes: Part I provides background material on the origins of Spanish and begins the process of presenting Spanish vocabulary. Part II presents "classical" Spanish vocabulary--words whose form (in both Spanish and English) is nearly unchanged from Latin and Greek. Part III deals with "popular" Spanish vocabulary, which underwent significant changes in form (and often meaning) during the evolution from Latin to Spanish. A number of linguistic patterns are identified that will help learners recognize and remember new vocabulary. Part IV treats a wide range of themes, including words of Germanic and Arabic origin, numbers, time, food and animals, the family, the body, and politics. Annex A: Principal exceptions to the "Simplified Gender Rule" Annex B: 700 words whose relations, if any, to English words are not immediately obvious Annex C: -cer verbs and related words Annex D: 4,500 additional words, either individually or in groups, with English correspondences
Download or read book Planet Taco written by Jeffrey M. Pilcher and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In Planet Taco, Jeffrey Pilcher traces the historical origins and evolution of Mexico's national cuisine, explores its incarnation as a Mexican American fast-food, shows how surfers became global pioneers of Mexican food, and how Corona beer conquered the world. Pilcher is particularly enlightening on what the history of Mexican food reveals about the uneasy relationship between globalization and authenticity. The burritos and taco shells that many people think of as Mexican were actually created in the United States. But Pilcher argues that the contemporary struggle between globalization and national sovereignty to determine the authenticity of Mexican food goes back hundreds of years. During the nineteenth century, Mexicans searching for a national cuisine were torn between nostalgic "Creole" Hispanic dishes of the past and French haute cuisine, the global food of the day. Indigenous foods were scorned as unfit for civilized tables. Only when Mexican American dishes were appropriated by the fast food industry and carried around the world did Mexican elites rediscover the foods of the ancient Maya and Aztecs and embrace the indigenous roots of their national cuisine"--
