Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory and Design of Broadband Matching Networks centers on the network theory and its applications to the design of broadband matching networks and amplifiers. Organized into five chapters, this book begins with a description of the foundation of network theory. Chapter 2 gives a fairly complete exposition of the scattering matrix associated with an n-port network. Chapter 3 considers the approximation problem along with a discussion of the approximating functions. Chapter 4 explains the Youla's theory of broadband matching by illustrating every phase of the theory with fully worked out examples. The extension of Youla's theory to active load impedance is taken up in Chapter 5. This book will be useful as a reference for practicing engineers who wish to learn how the modern network theory can be applied to the design of many practical circuits.

Book excerpt: The third edition presents a unified, up-to-date and detailed account of broadband matching theory and its applications to the design of broadband matching networks and amplifiers. A special feature is the addition of results that are of direct practical value. They are design curves, tables and explicit formulas for designing networks having Butterworth, Chebyshev or elliptic, Bessel or maximally flat group-delay response. These results are extremely useful as the design procedures can be reduced to simple arithmetic. Two case studies towards the end of the book are intended to demonstrate the applications to the practical design of modern filter circuits.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interactive BASIC language computer program to aid in the design of a matching network for a broadband antenna is described. Guidelines for the design of a broadband matching network are presented. The Antenna Matching (ANTMAT) program provides a computer-aided design tool for determining network topology and component values of the networks. It improves the speed and accuracy of the broadband matching network design procedures. An optimization algorithm finds that the values of the components that minimize the input reflection coefficient. At first, the optimization algorithm with an exponential weighting function is employed for determining a list of network candidates (either a pi network for a T network) from which a network topology is selected. After a topology is specified, the optimization algorithm with other weighting function is used for finding optimum element values. Keywords include: Interactive computer program, Computer-aided design, Network topology, and Optimization algorithm.
