Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every golfer wants to score under 100; however, less than 20% are able to play that well. A huge amount of the 80% over 100 could break that 100 barrier if they would make the right decisions while they are playing the game. This book is one of the few golf books that doesn't try to improve the skill level of the golfer, but rather improves his game with the skill that he has. The book is also for the golfer who is just getting started with the game. Even though new golfers are a long ways from being able to break 100, they can still look like they belong, on the golf course by getting to know the proper etiquette and the proper terminology. This book will do that, plus give them a knowledge about the types of games that are commonly played and will give a good understanding of the rules of golf. Even people who do not intend to play golf but enjoy watching it on television should read this book to get a better understanding of the game so watching tournaments will be more enjoyable.

In Break 100 Now!, renowned "Swing Doctor" Mike Adams provides a sensible, non-technical approach that high handicappers can put to immediate use to lower their golf scores. Unlike traditional golf instructionals, Break 100 Now! focuses more on the practical and less on mechanics. It stresses simple but proven strategies, such as replacing long irons with easier-to-hit fairway utility woods (4-5-6-7) and forsaking the driver for the more reliable 3-wood -- an exchange of only eight yards for accuracy. Written in clear, straightforward language, this book offers both the beginner and the novice a ninety-day program that enables them to go from hacker to golfer in the shortest time possible. Even experienced golfers can benefit from these invaluable tips and advice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 100 of the most moving and inspiring poems of the last 200 years from around the world, a collection that will comfort and enthrall anyone trapped by grief or loneliness, selected by the award-winning, best-selling, and beloved author of How to Read a Poem Implicit in poetry is the idea that we are enriched by heartbreaks, by the recognition and understanding of suffering—not just our own suffering but also the pain of others. We are not so much diminished as enlarged by grief, by our refusal to vanish, or to let others vanish, without leaving a record. And poets are people who are determined to leave a trace in words, to transform oceanic depths of feeling into art that speaks to others. In 100 Poems to Break Your Heart, poet and advocate Edward Hirsch selects 100 poems, from the nineteenth century to the present, and illuminates them, unpacking context and references to help the reader fully experience the range of emotion and wisdom within these poems. For anyone trying to process grief, loneliness, or fear, this collection of poetry will be your guide in trying times.

Book excerpt: A proud Newfoundland soldier’s memoir gives unprecedented details of life as a German POW during the First World War. I’m going to tell my story. With those words, eighty-three-year-old Arthur Manuel set his remarkable First World War memoir in motion. Like many Great War veterans, Manuel had never discussed his wartime life with anyone. Hidden in the Manuel family records until its 2011 discovery by his grandson David Manuel, Arthur’s story is now brought to new life. Determined to escape his impoverished rural Newfoundland existence, he enlisted with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in late 1914. His harrowing accounts of life under fire span the Allies’ ill-fated 1915 Gallipoli campaign, the Regiment’s 1916 near-destruction at Beaumont-Hamel, and his 1917 Passchendaele battlefield capture. Manuel’s account of his seventeen-month POW experience, including his nearly successful escape from a German forced labour camp, provides unique, compelling Great War insights. Powerful memories undimmed by age shine through Manuel’s lucid prose. His visceral hatred of war, and of the leaders on both sides who permitted such senseless carnage to continue, is ferocious yet tempered by Manuel’s powerful affection for common soldiers like himself, German and Allied alike. This poignant, angry, witty, and provocative account rings true like no other.

Book excerpt: The essential lifesaver for students who want to master probability For students learning probability, its numerous applications, techniques, and methods can seem intimidating and overwhelming. That's where The Probability Lifesaver steps in. Designed to serve as a complete stand-alone introduction to the subject or as a supplement for a course, this accessible and user-friendly study guide helps students comfortably navigate probability's terrain and achieve positive results. The Probability Lifesaver is based on a successful course that Steven Miller has taught at Brown University, Mount Holyoke College, and Williams College. With a relaxed and informal style, Miller presents the math with thorough reviews of prerequisite materials, worked-out problems of varying difficulty, and proofs. He explores a topic first to build intuition, and only after that does he dive into technical details. Coverage of topics is comprehensive, and materials are repeated for reinforcement—both in the guide and on the book's website. An appendix goes over proof techniques, and video lectures of the course are available online. Students using this book should have some familiarity with algebra and precalculus. The Probability Lifesaver not only enables students to survive probability but also to achieve mastery of the subject for use in future courses. A helpful introduction to probability or a perfect supplement for a course Numerous worked-out examples Lectures based on the chapters are available free online Intuition of problems emphasized first, then technical proofs given Appendixes review proof techniques Relaxed, conversational approach

Filling the gap between modern physics quantum theory and applications of radar imaging of oil spills, this reference is packed with technical details associated with the potentiality of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and the key methods used to extract the value-added information necessary, such as location, size, perimeter and chemical details of the oil slick from SAR measurements. Rounding out with practical simulation trajectory movements of oil spills using radar images, this book brings an effective new source of technology and applications for today’s oil and marine pollution engineers. Bridges the gap between theory and application of the techniques involving oil spill monitoring Helps readers understand a new approach to four-dimensional automatic detection Provides advanced knowledge on image processing based on intelligent learning machine algorithms and new techniques for detection, such as quantum and multi-objective algorithms

Novak illustrates both the problems and the opportunities that accompany older age. This text helps students understand the tremendous variability in aging and introduces them to careers working with older adults. This new edition reflects the continued changes in the way we age. The fourth edition has been updated to include emerging issues in aging. These include the prevalence of HIV/AIDs in later life, current research on mental potential in old age, the creation of age-friendly cities, and new options for end-of-life care. Each chapter begins with a set of learning objectives to guide students in their reading, and concludes with a list of main points, questions for discussion or study, suggested readings, and relevant web sites to consult. Each chapter also includes up-to-date charts and graphs as well as key terms to help students understand the issues presented.
