Book Synopsis Perpetual Inventory by : Rosalind E. Krauss
Download or read book Perpetual Inventory written by Rosalind E. Krauss and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In essays that span three decades, one of contemporary art's most esteemed critics celebrates artists who have persevered in the service of a medium. The job of an art critic is to take perpetual inventory, constantly revising her ideas about the direction of contemporary art and the significance of the work she writes about. In these essays, which span three decades of assessment and reassessment, Rosalind Krauss considers what she has come to call the “post-medium condition”—the abandonment by contemporary art of the modernist emphasis on the medium as the source of artistic significance. Jean-François Lyotard argued that the postmodern condition is characterized by the end of a “master narrative,” and Krauss sees in the post-medium condition of contemporary art a similar farewell to coherence. The master narrative of contemporary art ended when conceptual art and other contemporary practices jettisoned the specific medium in order to juxtapose image and written text in the same work. For Krauss, this spells the end of serious art, and she devotes much of Perpetual Inventory to “wrest[ling] new media to the mat of specificity.” Krauss also writes about artists who are reinventing the medium, artists who persevere in the service of a nontraditional medium (“strange new apparatuses” often adopted from commercial culture), among them Ed Ruscha, Christian Marclay, William Kentridge, and James Coleman.

This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MEANING AND IMPORTANCE OF INVENTORY Inventory means stock of goods. To finance managers inventory connotes the value of raw material, consumables spares and stores, work in progress and finished goods, in which the company’s fund have been invested. We can identify inventory as those goods which are procured, stored and used for day-to-day functioning of the organisation. Today’s inventory is tomorrow’s consumption. The classical definition of inventory is that it is an ideal resource of anything having an economic value. From this it follows that inventory control is a planning and devising procedure to maintain an optimal level of idle resources. Inventory deals with the determination of optimal procedures for procuring stock of commodities to meet future demand. The inventory of the retailer or the manufacturer, can be taken as a paradigm. In order to sell an item he must maintain a stock of that item to meet the demand.
Book Synopsis For Creative Geographies by : Harriet Hawkins
Download or read book For Creative Geographies written by Harriet Hawkins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first sustained critical exploration, and celebration, of the relationship between Geography and the contemporary Visual Arts. With the growth of research in the Geohumanities and the Spatial Humanities, there is an imperative to extend and deepen considerations of the form and import of geography-art relations. Such reflections are increasingly important as geography-art intersections come to encompass not only relationships built through interpretation, but also those built through shared practices, wherein geographers work as and with artists, curators and other creative practitioners. For Creative Geographies features seven diverse case studies of artists’ works and exhibitions made towards the end of the twentieth and the beginning of the twentieth-first century. Organized into three analytic sections, the volume explores the role of art in the making of geographical knowledge; the growth of geographical perspectives as art world analytics; and shared explorations of the territory of the body, In doing so, Hawkins proposes an analytic framework for exploring questions of the geographical “work” art does, the value of geographical analytics in exploring the production and consumption of art, and the different forms of encounter that artworks develop, whether this be with their audiences, or their makers.
