Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Ancestry of David Bracewell, Carey Bracewell describes the fourteen-generation lineage traced from Edmund Bracewell, who was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, c. 1510, to Careys son, David Bracewell, who was born in Texas in 1964. He outlines the career of the first American Bracewell, the Reverend Robert Bracewell (1611-1668), a Londoner, Oxford graduate, and Cavalierone who was invited to Virginia to take charge of St. Lukes Church, now a national historic landmark. Following the lead of the Reverend Bracewell, Carey Bracewell explains how each successive generation has faithfully emulated his example of pioneering religious leadership. More than just a recitation of genealogical lineage, this family history tells the fascinating story of how the Bracewell men and women struggled and brought Christianity to the wilds of Tennessee, southern Illinois, Arkansas, and Texas. Among their many lasting accomplishments, one Bracewell ancestor, Richard Brazil, founded the oldest Baptist church in Arkansas. Bracewell published a genealogical journal on the Bracewell family and started the Braswell DNA Project. He was the first to discover the DNA profile that traces the family back to one man who lived in Bracewell, Yorkshire, in the late Middle Ages.

Desperate to save the life of their queen and her unborn child, the good citizens of the kingdom comb the land for the all-healing Sundrop flower to cure her . . . but someone mistakenly picks the blossom of the Moondrop instead. This shimmering flower heals the queen and she delivers a healthy baby girl?with hair as silver and gray as the moon. But with her mysterious hair comes dangerous magical powers: the power to hurt, not heal. For the safety of the kingdom, Rapunzel is locked away in a tower and put under the care of the powerful goodwife, Mother Gothel. For eighteen years Rapunzel stays imprisoned in her tower, knowing she must protect everyone from her magical hair. When she finally decides to leave the only home she's ever known—to see the floating lights that appear on her birthday—she gets caught up in an unexpected adventure with two thieves: a would-be outlaw named Gina, and Flynn Rider, a rogue on the run. Before she can reach her happy ending, Rapunzel learns that there is far more to her story, and her magical hair, and her future than she ever knew. Book excerpt: Format: Paper Pages: 348 pp. Published: 1999 Reprinted: 2006 Price: $35.00 $23.50 - Save: 33% ISBN: 9780806348377 Item #: CF9248 In 1850 and again in 1860, the U.S. government carried out a census of slave owners and their property. Transcribed by Mr. Cox, the 1850 U.S. slave census for Georgia is important for two reasons. First, some of the slave owners appearing here do not appear in the 1850 U.S. census of population for Georgia and are thus "restored" to the population of 1850. Second, and of considerable interest to historians, the transcription shows that less than 10 percent of the Georgia white population owned slaves in 1850. In fact, by far the largest number of slave owners were concentrated in Glynn County, a coastal county known for its rice production. The slave owners' census is arranged in alphabetical order according to the surname of the slave owner and gives his/her full name, number of slaves owned, and the county of residence. It is one of the great disappointments of the ante bellum U.S. population census that the slaves themselves are not identified by name; rather, merely as property owned. Nevertheless, now that Mr. Cox has made the names of these Georgia slave owners with their aggregations of slaves more widely available, it may be just possible that more persons with slave ancestors will be able to trace them via other records (property records, for example) pertaining to the 37,000 slave owners enumerated in this new volume.
