Book excerpt: "So I'm going to save the world after all." Strange and yet all too familiar, this Brand New World of ours. History has been twisted. Just a little. Just enough. Here we meet ugly duckling Dior Darling who uncovers a plot to do away with mankind effectively. Travelling around the world in search of clues, she gets entangled in world espionage, a love affair that isn't, survives an invasion of Aliens, and uncovers a truth she wishes she hadn't. A truth that will forever change life as we know it. Destruction, creation, and personal development are at the heart of this novel, in the eerily estranging way that defines the best science fiction

Book excerpt: "Brand New World" is the first novella in the "Embarkment 2577" series. When Alexandra wakes up in an unknown environment, populated by a cat-like woman with a tail and a hologram of a rockstar, she knows she has to be hallucinating. Maybe she hit her head, or finally suffered a nervous breakdown. It doesn't get any better from finding out she died and was taken into the future by the elusive Adam, whom she can't remember, or from people telling her she's on a spaceship. The last year or so is gone from her memory, and she has no choice but to try to adapt. As days go by, her new environment becomes more and more unnerving. She finds herself helpless, and completely dependent on a man who isn't even human.

Book excerpt: A teenager becomes a romantic hero in an artificial-reality school full of supernatural secrets in the first book of a slice-of-life, urban-fantasy series. Leonard Dunning wakes up in a home he doesn't remember—and to a face in the mirror he doesn't recognize. He soon discovers he attends Blue Cherry High with his best friend, Josh Bernstein, who seems to be the most popular boy in school, with several girls competing for his attention. As the girls collide and clash over the oblivious Josh, Leo realizes each of them displays quirks of characters found in an anime harem comedy. So if Josh is the story's protagonist, what does that make Leo? To learn more about the simulation in which he's been cast, Leo enlists the help of background extra Judy Sennoma. Together, they observe and catalog what's going on around them to try to figure out how the story will unfold. But as Leo interacts with Josh's love interests and inadvertently confronts stereotypical villains, he disrupts the flow of the narrative. Now, two girls have set their romantic sights on him, and he's made some very powerful enemies. As the designated secondary protagonist, Leo has become a hero in an adventure that's no longer following the tropes of the genre—and placed himself and his friends in grave danger. Caught in the crosshairs, Leo must develop his newfound superhuman abilities before he gets dragged into the hidden conflicts between otherworldly factions. But he's not afraid to push back against the plot, and the narrative's shadowy controllers are in for a rude awakening. The first volume of the hit slice-of-life romantic-comedy series—with more than two million views on Royal Road—now available on Audible and wherever ebooks are sold!

Drawn from every book of the New Testament, The Giant Book Of Children's Sermons -- Matthew To Revelation contains five full years worth of material you can share with your young disciples. Each of the 260 talks teach children God's Word through the use of common objects that illustrate an important concept in the scriptures. The messages come from Wesley Runk, a pastor and master communicator with kids who has written over 30 best-selling collections of children's sermons and object lessons. Runk uses a warm and often humorous approach to take on even the tough topics of the New Testament -- and the analogies he creates with the use of such simple objects as bananas, clocks, puzzles, and funnels add visual focus for the kids and help them grasp the point on a level suitable for their age. Now, whether you are preaching from the Gospels, Acts, the letters of Paul, the general Epistles, or even Revelation, you are sure to find an appropriate related talk for the children. And with convenient features like scripture and object indexes for quickly locating material as well as a CD with text files that lets you easily adapt the messages to your specific circumstances, The Giant Book Of Children's Sermons may be the last children's collection you ever need!

Book excerpt: Recently vilified as the prime dynamic driving home the breach between poor and rich nations, here the branding process is rehabilitated as a potential saviour of the economically underprivileged. Brand New Justice, now in a revised paperback edition, systematically analyses the success stories of the Top Thirteen nations, demonstrating that their wealth is based on the 'last mile' of the commercial process: buying raw materials and manufacturing cheaply in third world countries, these countries realise their lucrative profits by adding value through finishing, packaging and marketing and then selling the branded product on to the end-user at a hugely inflated price. The use of sophisticated global media techniques alongside a range of creative marketing activities are the lynchpins of this process. Applying his observations on economic history and the development and impact of global marketing, Anholt presents a cogent plan for developing nations to benefit from globalization. So long the helpless victim of capitalist trading systems, he shows that they can cross the divide and graduate from supplier nation to producer nation. Branding native produce on a global scale, making a commercial virtue out of perceived authenticity and otherness and fully capitalising on the 'last mile' benefits are key to this graduation and fundamental to forging a new global economic balance. Anholt argues with a forceful logic, but also backs his hypothesis with enticing glimpses of this process actually beginning to take place. Examining activities in India, Thailand, Russia and Africa among others, he shows the risks, challenges and pressures inherent in 'turning the tide', but above all he demonstrates the very real possibility of enlightened capitalism working as a force for good in global terms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a step-by-step blueprint for a better world. There is a storm brewing on the horizon. A new world order is coming based on all the trends and global pressures that is facing mankind today. The question is, who's world vision is going to prevail and lead us into the 21st century and beyond? Will it be based on Man's vision and his world-ruling government that has only produced war or God's vision and Christ's world-ruling government that is guaranteed to produce lasting peace? The outcome to this vital question and struggle will either bring on the "Apocalypse" or the prophesied "Millennium." It is our choice and we need to decide soon before we hit a point of no return! Prophecy says the Kingdom of Man is going to face off with the Kingdom of God on the Plains of Megiddo in Northern Israel in the not too distant future for supremacy on earth if we don't heed the warnings and change our ways. Our message, therefore, is simple. Christ is returning shortly as King of Kings to establish a new political order, His world-ruling government of the Kingdom of God on earth. His return can either be a forceful one or a peaceful one. It is our decision. Either way, we need to decide soon and get ready for the Second Coming!

Moreover, how do we conceive 'nationality' during periods of rapid economic and social change spurred on by globalization? By examining tourism in the Republic of Ireland over the past 20 years, Michael Clancy addresses these questions of national identity formation, as well as providing a detailed understanding of the political economy of tourism and development. He explores tourism's role in the 'Celtic Tiger' phenomenon and uses tourism as a lens for observing national identity formation in a period of rapid change.

During that time, he experienced the fear of living under an authoritarian regime. Three years of Terrance's time in China were spent in the naval city of Sanya. Terrance saw the Chinese military prepare for a war every day for three years. From aerial operations to arm China's illegally built islands in the South China Sea to the deployments of China's Type 094 ballistic missile submarines, Terrance saw China preparing for a New World Order with his own eyes. Terrance was even present in 2019 for the commission of China's Type 002 aircraft carrier, the Shandong. Terrance recorded much of the activity he saw while in China and interviewed countless people around Asia to comprehensively assess China's intentions for the world. Terrance also has prepared an in-depth analysis of the possible pathways to peace. The author also highlights several disturbing facts about China's increase in its military capabilities and why that is a threat to America and its allies. This book stresses the need to maintain and expand U.S. military strength in Asia while forging closer ties with like-minded allies worldwide. Terrance was not on the outside looking in, he was there, and this book was written from within China.

The media has made it seem like all conspiracies are theories and that anyone who discusses them is a tinfoil hat. Yet anyone who has studied history or business knows that conspiracies are a part of the human experience. Once we realize this, the question arises: what conspiracies are occurring in our time that are significant? What perceptions of the world do we hold that are incorrect? Western civilization, although technologically advanced beyond the days of a Flat Earth or geocentric universe, is blind to it's own corruptions. Our governing practices were established over a century ago - and have evolved very little. If we could apply the success we've had in science, technology, and understanding the human condition to the way we govern our society, what would our world look like? Be forewarned. The journey starts off frightfully dark and many people do not have the emotional fortitude to face the real demons. But if you make the journey it is very rewarding to realize that we have at our disposal the means to create a remarkable world for the next generation if we so choose. This book blends business management strategies leveraged by technology to address the inherent problems in governments. Presented in a clear, step-by-step manner that provides readers with a unique and fresh look at alternatives to our present system.

Book excerpt: One of Kirkus Review's Best Nonfiction Books of 2022 A deep-time history of animals and humans in North America, by the best-selling and award-winning author of Coyote America. In 1908, near Folsom, New Mexico, a cowboy discovered the remains of a herd of extinct giant bison. By examining flint points embedded in the bones, archeologists later determined that a band of humans had killed and butchered the animals 12,450 years ago. This discovery vastly expanded America’s known human history but also revealed the long-standing danger Homo sapiens presented to the continent’s evolutionary richness. Distinguished author Dan Flores’s ambitious history chronicles the epoch in which humans and animals have coexisted in the “wild new world” of North America—a place shaped both by its own grand evolutionary forces and by momentous arrivals from Asia, Africa, and Europe. With portraits of iconic creatures such as mammoths, horses, wolves, and bison, Flores describes the evolution and historical ecology of North America like never before. The arrival of humans precipitated an extraordinary disruption of this teeming environment. Flores treats humans not as a species apart but as a new animal entering two continents that had never seen our likes before. He shows how our long past as carnivorous hunters helped us settle America, initially establishing a coast-to-coast culture that lasted longer than the present United States. But humanity’s success had devastating consequences for other creatures. In telling this epic story, Flores traces the origins of today’s “Sixth Extinction” to the spread of humans around the world; tracks the story of a hundred centuries of Native America; explains how Old World ideologies precipitated 400 years of market-driven slaughter that devastated so many ancient American species; and explores the decline and miraculous recovery of species in recent decades. In thrilling narrative style, informed by genomic science, evolutionary biology, and environmental history, Flores celebrates the astonishing bestiary that arose on our continent and introduces the complex human cultures and individuals who hastened its eradication, studied America’s animals, and moved heaven and earth to rescue them. Eons in scope and continental in scale, Wild New World is a sweeping yet intimate Big History of the animal-human story in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where the New World Is assesses how fiction published since 1980 has resituated the U.S. South globally and how earlier twentieth-century writing already had done so in ways traditional southern literary studies tended to ignore. Martyn Bone argues that this body of fiction has, over the course of some eighty years, challenged received readings and understandings of the U.S. South as a fixed place largely untouched by immigration (or even internal migration) and economic globalization. The writers discussed by Bone emphasize how migration and labor have reconfigured the region’s relation to the nation and a range of transnational scales: hemispheric (Jamaica, the Bahamas, Haiti), transatlantic/Black Atlantic (Denmark, England, Mauritania), and transpacific/global southern (Australia, China, Vietnam). Writers under consideration include Zora Neale Hurston, Nella Larsen, John Oliver Killens, Russell Banks, Erna Brodber, Cynthia Shearer, Ha Jin, Monique Truong, Lan Cao, Toni Morrison, Peter Matthiessen, Dave Eggers, and Laila Lalami. The book also seeks to resituate southern studies by drawing on theories of “scale” that originated in human geography. In this way, Bone also offers a new paradigm in which the U.S. South is thoroughly engaged with a range of other scales from the local to the global, making both literature about the region and southern studies itself truly transnational in scope.
