This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice provides the method to assign numerical values of brake effectiveness, using data from single station inertia dynamometer effectiveness tests, and to identify a uniform procedure to mark these values on the edge of brake blocks in excess of 12.7 mm (0.51 in) in thickness. The edge markings are intended to provide relevant and meaningful data on the normal and hot effectiveness of brake blocks, using the reference full size brake assembly, to aid in the characterization of these brake block frictional properties. This edge marking methodology is intended to permit accurate identification of the effectiveness values over the full wear life of the brake block. This is accomplished by means of permanent markings on one edge of the brake block.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice presents performance requirements for the brake systems of motor vehicles intended for roadway use and falling into the following classifications: Light trucks and buses: 6001-10 000 lb (2700-4500 kg) gvw; Truck and bus: Over 10 000 lb (4500 kg) gvw; combination of vehicles towing vehicles over 10 000 lb (4500 kg) gvw. Acceptable performance requirements are based on data obtained from applicable sections of SAE J786a (March, 1978). The purpose of this recommended practice is to establish the minimum brake system performance requirements with regard to: 3.1 Stopping ability--of cold brakes, as affected by vehicle speed. 3.2 Stopping ability--of hot brakes, as affected by vehicle speed and duty cycle. 3.3 Pedal force (air pressure) requirements--maximum allowable. 3.4 Brake stability. 3.5 stopping ability and recovery of wet brakes. 3.6 Stopping ability of emergency brake system. 3.7 Brake effectiveness distribution for vehicles in combination.

Download or read book Brake Block Effectiveness Rating written by Truck and Bus Foundation Brake Committee and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice provides the test procedure and methods to calculate the effectiveness of brake blocks, using an inertia dynamometer. To minimize testing variability, and to optimize standardization and correlation, a single, high volume size of brake block is specified (FMSI No. 4515E) and evaluated in a reference S-cam brake assembly of 419 mm x 178 mm (16.5 in x 7.0 in) size, using a specified brake drum. The test data is set and should not be changed to keep the integrity and intent of the testing that was performed.

This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Recommended Practice provides a road test procedure for trucks and buses, to evaluate their compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 121; Air Brake Systems. Units of measure are English in lieu of metric to be consistent with FMVSS 121. This SAE Recommended Practice is intended as a guide toward industry practice and subject to change so as to keep pace with experience and technical advances. The usage of this recommend practice is limited to trucks and buses equipped with air brake systems with a GVWR greater than 10000 pounds. This document has been modified from SAE J1626-1 truck tractor to incorporate air brake equipped trucks and buses test procedure. The following sections were modified; changed all truck tractor wording to trucks and buses throughout the document, 3.1 definitions add trucks and buses, 3.5 was removed based on combination weight not applicable, 3.7.1 was removed based on tractor trailer combination not applicable and modified for trucks and buses, 3.13 remove unbraked control trailer not applicable, 6.8 removed control trailer reservoir not applicable, 6.13 and 8.2.2 removed the additional brake adjustment at the completion of the 500 snub burnish not applicable with trucks and buses, Section 7 test sequence was modified to follow FMVSS 121 truck and bus sequence, 8.1.3 truck and bus loading changes, 9.1.3, 10.1.2 and 11.1.2 removed brake adjustments not applicable, 9.1.1 corrected 20 foot cone spacing, 9.2.1 changed 35 to 30 mph and changed 44 to 40 mph, 9.2.2 corrected reference 3.9 to 3.8, 11.2.1a removed the word "only," Figure 5D removed LLVW, and corrected all header spacing between two-digit section number and header. Figures (data sheets) removed trailer ballast C.G. height measurement, bobtail proportional and fifth wheel height not applicable. SAE J1626-2 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE Five-Year Review policy.
