This book was released on 1981 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of an experimental investigation of the influence of spin and nose bluntness on the boundary layer characteristics and side force of a secant ogive nose axisymmetric body are presented. Smoke visualization data for the sharp and 10%, 20% and 30% spherically blunted noses were correlated with side forces measured at Reynolds numbers of 315,000 and 1,030,000, and spin rates up to 6000 rpm for angles of attack from 0 deg to 10 deg. Boundary layer flow asymmetries were correlated with the side forces measured to provide some insight into the origin of the side forces. (Author).

Book Synopsis Calculation of Magnus Forces on Axisymmetric Bodies at Small Angles of Attack with Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layers by : Neal Tetervin
Download or read book Calculation of Magnus Forces on Axisymmetric Bodies at Small Angles of Attack with Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Neal Tetervin and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Magnus force is found by adding the boundary layer displacement surface to the body and then calculating the force on the resulting non- axisymmetric body. The displacement surface is calculated by the simultaneous integration of a differential equation for a streamline, two partial-differential boundary layer integral-momentum equations with the boundary layer thickness and the tangent of the angle between the local direction of the surface friction and potential flow streamline as dependent variables, and a partial differential equation for the displacement surface thickness. The method is applied to a half-ellipsoid of fineness ratio 5 at 4 degrees angle of attack. Slender-body theory is used to calculate the force.

Download or read book Transonic Shock-Turbulent Boundary Layer Interactions on Spinning Axisymmetric Bodies at Zero Angle of Attack written by George R. Inger and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a detailed triple-deck theory of the transonic shock-nonseparating turbulent boundary layer interaction zones on spinning axisymmetric bodies at zero angle of attack. The theory allows a general non-equilibrium turbulent boundary layer history upstream of the interaction. We further describe the application of this theory as a local interactive module imbedded in a global composite viscous-inviscid transonic flow field prediction method which can handle two or more such interaction zones. Detailed comparisons with both experimental data and thin-layer Navier-Stokes code predictions are presented to verify the accuracy and reliability of the composite method solutions for pressure, displacement thickness, velocity profiles, shape factor and skin friction distirbutions along the body over a wide range of Mach/Reynolds number conditions.
