Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the entire text of two classic erotic novels, Blue Angel Nights and Blue Angel Secrets. Originally published in 1931 as The Pleasure Garden, these two novels describe the lascivious side of two of the most infamous eras in world history: Germany of the 1920s and Hollywood of the 1930s. With an unsparing eye on actors and aristocrats, students and showgirls, in cafes and salons and at backstage parties in pleasure boudoirs, Blue Angel Confessions describes a time when even the most outlandish proposal was likely to find an eager accomplice. The novel works as an erotic satire on German society, religion, and politics, with a particularly harsh view of the rise of the National Socialist Party. Von Falkensee’s biting prose has at times been compared to Voltaire and Kafka and is always as intelligent as it is erotic.

Book excerpt: A rebel angel’s observations from her half-million years on Earth and her perspective on the spiritual journey of her human charge • Explains the hidden motivations behind Lucifer’s angelic rebellion 203,000 years ago and watcher Georgia’s participation in it • Explores the benevolent intentions of the Multiverse both in quarantining our planet to contain the rebellion and in now allowing our return • Describes how the coming spiritual transition will be gentle and our future positive More than two hundred millennia ago the high angel Lucifer launched a revolution among the angelic hierarchy, which led to the quarantine of 37 planets, including our own, from the rest of the Multiverse. Now, after eons of isolation, the rebel angels are being redeemed and we are being welcomed back into the benevolent and caring Multiverse with a massive transformation of consciousness and a reconnection to our celestial destiny. Writing through Timothy Wyllie, rebel angel Georgia describes her half a million years stationed on Earth as a watcher. Arriving 500,000 years ago as part of the first angelic expedition to Earth--sent here to prepare the indigenous inhabitants for higher consciousness--she details the archaic roots of humanity and explains the connections between the 7 dimensions of intelligent life and the chakras as well as how beauty and creativity are vehicles for angelic inspiration. Interweaving her story with parallel observations of Wyllie’s youth in World War II England and his spiritual journey beginning with the Process Church, Georgia explains the motivations behind Lucifer’s uprising and the lasting impact it has had among the angels on Earth and on humanity’s natural spiritual development. Revealing that there are more than 90 million rebel angels currently incarnated on Earth--almost all of whom are unaware of their previous celestial lives--Georgia explains how this is their opportunity to personally redeem the past and contribute their particular talents to the world. She calls on all of us, especially these incarnate angels, to wake up to who we truly are and embrace our spiritual heritage as earthly vessels for God’s presence. In this way we can prepare for the imminent transformation of global consciousness and embrace the astonishing and wondrous destiny facing our world.

Book excerpt: The spiritual journey of a young artist at mid-20th century, Since My Last Confession sensitively probes the faith and doubts of a pre-Vatican II cradle-born Roman Catholic. Luke at an early age is profoundly influenced by priests and nuns at school, later at work he pursues, in the army during World War II, and in post-war Europe while a graduate student in Florence. A wide circle of friends and experiences introduce him to other Christian denominations and other faiths, contributing to struggles he’s known with Catholic dogma since a teenager. Irrevocably bound to a Church which he questions and from which he’s alienated, Luke’s spiritual dilemma is heightened by professional setbacks, economic hardships, and rootlessness. When he falls in love with a privileged Jewish college student, Esther, he’s forced to face hard decisions about his faith, his work, commitments. A novel in which characters struggle with the persistent dichotomies of the sacred and the profane, Since My Last Confession confronts the challenges facing all of good faith during tumultuous eras of radical social change.

Book excerpt: The first memoir from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Interview with a Vampire—a "very affecting story of a well-known prodigal’s return ... [a] vivid, engaging tale of the journey of a soul into light” (Chicago Sun-Times). Anne Rice was raised in New Orleans as the devout child in a deeply religious Irish Catholic family. Here, she describes how, as she grew up, she lost her belief in God, but not her desire for a meaningful life. She used her novels—beginning with Interview with a Vampire—to wrestle with otherworldly themes while in her own life, she experienced both loss (the death of her daughter and, later, her beloved husband, Stan Rice) and joys (the birth of her son, Christopher). And she writes about how, finally, after years of questioning, she experienced the intense conversion and re-embracing of her faith that lie behind her most recent novels about the life of Christ.

Even though most of us do not dare attempt to aspire to reach the heights of St. Patrick, it is important to realize that God made each and every person an individual - not to be like another - but rather to be like Christ. He made each person unique and endows each of us with different gifts and graces. This is why we study and admire other followers of Christ but we are not to try to be exactly like another. In growing in virtue - yes. But God has a very specific wills and assignments for each of us. Nevertheless it is helpful to study and reflect on the virtues of others like St. Patrick.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decade ago in the Times Literary Supplement, Roderick Conway Morris claimed that “almost everything that was going to happen in book publishing—from pocket books, instant books and pirated books, to the concept of author’s copyright, company mergers, and remainders—occurred during the early days of printing.” Ian Maclean’s colorful survey of the flourishing learned book trade of the late Renaissance brings this assertion to life. The story he tells covers most of Europe, with Frankfurt and its Fair as the hub of intellectual exchanges among scholars and of commercial dealings among publishers. The three major religious confessions jostled for position there, and this rivalry affected nearly all aspects of learning. Few scholars were exempt from religious or financial pressures. Maclean’s chosen example is the literary agent and representative of international Calvinism, Melchior Goldast von Haiminsfeld, whose activities included opportunistic involvement in the political disputes of the day. Maclean surveys the predicament of underfunded authors, the activities of greedy publishing entrepreneurs, the fitful interventions of regimes of censorship and licensing, and the struggles faced by sellers and buyers to achieve their ends in an increasingly overheated market. The story ends with an account of the dramatic decline of the scholarly book trade in the 1620s, and the connivance of humanist scholars in the values of the commercial world through which they aspired to international recognition. Their fate invites comparison with today’s writers of learned books, as they too come to terms with new technologies and changing academic environments.

Book excerpt: A shocking exposé of rampant, decades-long incompetence at the National Rifle Association, as told by a former member of its senior leadership. Joshua L. Powell is the NRA--a lifelong gun advocate, in 2016, he began his new role as a senior strategist and chief of staff to NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre. What Powell uncovered was horrifying: "the waste and dysfunction at the NRA was staggering." INSIDE THE NRA reveals for the first time the rise and fall of the most powerful political organization in America--how the NRA became feared as the Death Star of Washington lobbies and so militant and extreme as "to create and fuel the toxicity of the gun debate until it became outright explosive." INSIDE THE NRA explains this intentional toxic messaging was wholly the product of LaPierre's leadership and the extremist branding by his longtime PR puppet master Angus McQueen. In damning detail, Powell exposes the NRA's plan to "pour gasoline" on the fire in the fight against gun control, to sow discord to fill its coffers, and to secure the presidency for Donald J. Trump.
