Book Synopsis Blondin & Other Poems by : Brian Taylor
Download or read book Blondin & Other Poems written by Brian Taylor and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-02-17 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These poems cover over forty years. Writing them is like collecting the bubbles which stream away from the stern of a small boat crossing a vast ocean. They are all different. They are all the same. Fragile, inconsequential bubbles of livingness. The subject matter ranges from Oxford, its colleges and ghosts, to the Far East with its temples, its hunger for life (and cncrete jungles),and its two and a half thousand year old Buddhism. Here, Theravada monks still proclaim, in the Buddha's own language, that "all things are suffering, all things are impermanent, all things are not self. Nibbana is the Highest Happiness." Here is the teeming multiplicity of life and the utter freedom and stillness of the Unconditioned State which runs like a cack through the universe. Through this crack beings escape from the burden of becoming. Through it they return again. From one lifetime to the next. From one moment to the next.

Book excerpt: HERE (AND NOW) Clusters of English "unofficial" roses have climbed the fence to face the sun. Each in its crimson finery supposes that it, alone, is the only one. Honeysuckle tangles with its vagrance bramble and lavender, rose and gorse, fills the still air with its golden fragrance there where the steps run a wayward course.

Download or read book Coming Home to Yourself written by Osho and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A beautifully illustrated collection of mindfulness exercises for grounding, relaxation, and finding inner peace, from contemporary mystic Osho All of us have experienced moments of "coming home"--feeling relaxed, grounded, free of the restlessness that characterizes so much of our everyday lives. These moments can arise in nature or in the depths of an activity we enjoy, alone or together with people we love. They show us that we are exactly where we are supposed to be. The meditations in Coming Home to Yourself were selected from Osho's hundreds of public talks and intimate conversations. These passages are designed to be a companion on the journey toward transforming our rare moments of "at-home-ness" into an undercurrent that permeates all aspects of our lives. They offer guidance about meditation and specific techniques to try, insights into the habits that keep us tense and conflicted, and what life might look like if we recognize those habits and let them go. Exercises include activating your awareness, opening the heart, learning to relax and concentrate in order to reap the benefits of meditation, and freeing the brain from mental blocks. Featuring whimsical full color illustrations throughout, Coming Home to Yourself invites the reader to dip into the meditations at any point or read the book in sequence for a true homecoming experience.

Book Synopsis Pour Le Sport by : Roxanna Nydia Curto
Download or read book Pour Le Sport written by Roxanna Nydia Curto and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume gathers together studies examining various aspects of physical culture in literature written in French from Europe and around the Francophone world. We define physical culture as the systematic care for and development of the physique, and interpret it to include not only sport in the modern sense, but also all the athletic activities that preceded it or relate to it, such as bodily forms of exercise, leisure, and artistic creation. Our essays pursue diverse interpretive approaches and focus on texts from a wide variety of periods (medieval to the present) and genres (short stories, novels, essays, poetry) in order to consider the fundamental-yet highly neglected-place of physical activities in literature and culture from the French-speaking world. Some of the questions the essays explore include: Does the genre sports literature exist in French, and if so, what are its characteristics? How do governments or other political entities mobilize sports literature? What role do narratives about sports-especially the creation of teams-play in the construction of national, regional and/or local identities? How is physical culture used in literary works for pedagogical or ideological purposes? To what extent do sports performances provide a metaphorical and figurative discourse for discussing literature and culture?
