Book Synopsis Blistering of Built-up Roof Membranes by : Charles J. Korhonen
Download or read book Blistering of Built-up Roof Membranes written by Charles J. Korhonen and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several blisters in built-up roof membranes were instrumented with pressure and temperature sensors. Internal blister pressures varied from positive during the heat of the day to negative during the cool of the night; these pressure changes cause blisters to grow. Air is drawn into the blister at night. When exposed to sunshine, the air rapidly expands before it can escape. Water is not necessary to cause growth. Blisters grow best when the days are hot and the nights are cool. Pressures apparently do not occur within the insulated space of a roof to cause blisters. Reflective coatings may help to slow blister growth. Growth can be stopped by using a miniature pressure relief valve. Keywords: Damage, Leakage(Fluid), Tensile Stress, Roof Repair.
Book Synopsis Risk of Blistering of Built-Up Roofing Membranes Applied to Polyurethane Foam Insulation by : RG. Mathey
Download or read book Risk of Blistering of Built-Up Roofing Membranes Applied to Polyurethane Foam Insulation written by RG. Mathey and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of polyurethane foam insulation boards in low-sloped roof constructions has increased in recent years to upgrade their thermal efficiency. Built-up membranes applied directly over polyurethane foam insulation may experience greater incidence of blistering than membranes applied on other roofing insulation boards. The bubbling of hot asphalt during its application to the polyurethane insulation board can cause voids in the asphalt layer, which eventually can grow into blisters. This paper presents the results of a study to investigate the effect of application of hot asphalt directly onto polyurethane insulation boards. In addition, it discusses causes of blistering and methods for using polyurethane foam insulation boards in built-up roofing systems so as to reduce the risk of blistering.
Book Synopsis Roof Blisters by : Charles J. Korhonen
Download or read book Roof Blisters written by Charles J. Korhonen and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The blisters on this 2-year old roof were first noticed one year after construction. Findings show that all blisters were built into the roof and that they will continue to develop in size and number. Currently, this roof is watertight, but leaks will occur as blisters begin to break. Rather than wait for problems, recommendations are provided for using a CRREL-designed pressure relief valve to prevent blisters from growing and ever becoming a problem. Keywords: Thermograms.

Book Synopsis Roof Blisters by : Charles J. Korhonen
Download or read book Roof Blisters written by Charles J. Korhonen and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blisters are a major problem of built-up roof membranes. They are caused by voids built into the roof during construction. They develop into the characteristic dome-shaped humps by a breathing action driven by thermal cycling. A small pressure relief vent was patented by CRREL as a cost-effective way to repair blisters. Though these vents cannot prevent blisters from forming, they can lengthen a roof's service life by repairing the blisters before they break. Two demonstration projects were conducted to transfer the blister vent technology to the military community. Most participants in the demonstration projects found the vent easy to use and that it performed as designed. The main objection to the vent was its price. (MM).
Download or read book Roofing Failures written by Carl G. Cash and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-06-02 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book starts by setting out the duties of a building pathologist in the context of the modern roofing industry, defining failure and explaining its underlying causes. The main chapters then deal with the main specific types of failure: fire, shrinkage and roofing systems displacement, calendar shrinkage, foam insulation shrinkage and 'stretched' membranes, plasticizer migration, bitumen incompatibility, built-up roofing felt porosity, blistering, thermal insulation instability, foam insulation problems, torch applications, polymer dispersion, asphalt-glass fibre shingle splitting, lack of appropriate venting, problems with cool roofing and problems with organic fibre-portland cement shingles. The book concludes with an outline of the principal rules for long service life roofing.

Book Synopsis Preliminary Performance Criteria for Bituminous Membrane Roofing by : Robert G. Mathey
Download or read book Preliminary Performance Criteria for Bituminous Membrane Roofing written by Robert G. Mathey and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is the first in a series of publications on performance criteria for built-up roof membranes. The development of a performance approach to bituminous built-up roof membranes is described and preliminary performance criteria are recommended. A number of test methods have been developed in order to obtain data to evaluate roofing membranes against the recommended criteria. Twenty attributes that effect the performance of roof membranes under service conditions are identified and laboratory tests are described for measuring the engineering properties of the membrane that pertain to many of these attributes. A level of performance is recommended for nine of the identified performance attributes.
