Book Synopsis Biologie cellulaire by : Jean-Claude Callen
Download or read book Biologie cellulaire written by Jean-Claude Callen and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Neuronal Grafting and Alzheimer’s Disease by : F.H. Gage
Download or read book Neuronal Grafting and Alzheimer’s Disease written by F.H. Gage and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alzheimer's disease is one of the major scientific, medical and social challenges of our time. This book (the third volume of proceedings of the Colloques Médecine et Recherche of the Fondation Ipsen pour la Recherche Thérapeutique) is dedicated to neuronal grafting and Alzheimer's disease. The wealth of basic information presented testifies to the progress that has been achieved in intracerebral grafting and to the utility of intracerebral grafting as a tool for the understanding of brain development, adult neuronal plasticity and age-related pathology. An answer to the question, whether neuronal grafting will be useful as a therapy for Alzheimer's disease, must wait for a better understanding of the disease and the identification of animal models that can be used to test potential therapies. Meanwhile, the tool of intracerebral grafting may, in the future, be used to address the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease.
Book Synopsis Methods in Mycoplasmology V1 by : Samuel Razin
Download or read book Methods in Mycoplasmology V1 written by Samuel Razin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Mycoplasmology, Volume I: Mycoplasma Characterization is the first of a two-volume series that resulted from cumulative efforts to meet the need for standardized techniques in mycoplasmology. The book is organized into five sections. Section A provides an introduction to the mycoplasmas by discussing their characteristics and classification, mycoplasma-animal host interrelationships, and mycoplasma-plant-insect interrelationships. The chapters in Section B examine the morphological and ultrastructural features of mycoplasmas, using techniques such as phase-contrast microscopy, dark-field microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Section C discusses the cultivation and nutrition of mycoplasmas. Section D focuses on analytical methods for the characterization of mycoplasmas, including harvest and washing procedures, cell lysis and membrane isolation, and crossed immunoelectrophoresis. Section E describes tests designed to detect specific enzymatic activities or nutritional requirements of mycoplasmas. These include sugar fermentation and arginine hydrolysis tests as well as tests to establish the sterol requirement of mycoplasmas. Section F deals with serological tests. These tests either have specific application to detection of mycoplasma antigens or antibody in plant and animal tissues; are useful in identification of specific groups of mycoplasmas (spiroplasmas); or provide higher sensitivity in measurements of antibodies against mycoplasmas.
Book Synopsis Photoprocesses in Transition Metal Complexes, Biosystems and Other Molecules. Experiment and Theory by : E. Kochanski
Download or read book Photoprocesses in Transition Metal Complexes, Biosystems and Other Molecules. Experiment and Theory written by E. Kochanski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scope of this paper is to recall fundamental notions of the molecular spectroscopy and dynamics, necessary for discussion of photophysical and photochemical processes in condensed phases. We will thus treat in a more detailed way the specific features which are important for molecular systems strongly interacting with their environment. Other aspects such as the time evolution of isolated molecules, single-level excitation and state-to-state chemistry, important for the gas-phase photophysics are omitted. We start (Sec.2) with a brief description of radiative processes (light absorption and emission) in molecules. In the quantum-mechanical treatment of this problem, the appropriate basis is that of so-called zero-order states, corresponding to the traditional scheme of electronic states (singlets, doublets, triplets etc.) and vibrational levels belonging to each state. The important point will be deduction of selection rules for most radiative transitions. At this stage all molecular states are considered as stationary states. In order to treat the breakdown of simple selection rules and non-radiative transitions between individual molecular states, it is necessary to take into account the mechanisms coupling the zero-order states (Sec.3). We will first focus on intramolecular coupling effects and then discuss the solvent effects on intramolecular relaxation processes. The problem of the non-radiative transfer of the electronic energy between different molecules - closely related to that of the energy dissipation within a single molecule will be treated in Sec.4.
Download or read book The Band 3 Proteins written by E. Bamberg and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of papers on the molecular biology of the band 3 proteins and their various functions: as anion transporters, binding proteins for membrane skeleton, hemoglobin and glycolytic enzymes, and as a recognition signal for the removal of senescent cells by the immuno-system of the body. The papers presented were written to provide an overview of the work carried out during the past five years in most of the laboratories engaged in research on band 3. They serve to give the reader factual information on nearly all aspects of band 3 research, to introduce him to the current literature and to give him a feeling for the philosophy behind the approaches chosen in the various laboratories.
Book Synopsis Basic Mechanisms Controlling Term and Preterm Birth by : Kristof Chwalisz
Download or read book Basic Mechanisms Controlling Term and Preterm Birth written by Kristof Chwalisz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanisms that initiate labour (i. e. , the conversion of the quies cent uterus to an active and reactive organ at term) are poorly under stood. Of considerable importance are the factors that control preterm labour and preterm birth, with their devastating effects on society. This problem is the leading obstetrical issue. Preterm labour affects ap proximately 10% of all pregnant women (even higher numbers are re- Abb. I. The participants of the workshop VI Preface ported for less developed countries or where prenatal healthcare is a low priority) and it is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality of babies. Current practices to arrest preterm labour, once initiated, are in effective. In addition, procedures to stimulate labour and dilate the cer vix at term may not be used effectively. On October 19th - 21 st, 1992, a Schering Foundation Workshop took place in Berlin to discuss the "Basic Mechanisms Controlling Term and Preterm Labour". Leading scientists from Europe and North America were assembled to consider the fundamental systems which regulate the uterus and cervix during pregnancy. The topics in the sym posium ranged from key cellular events governing uterine contractility and cervical dilatation during labour to clinical advances and applica tions. This book contains the proceedings of the workshop. We were pleased to have been part of the workshop and to have been responsible for its organization.

Book Synopsis Écotoxicochimie des hydrocarbures by : PICOT André
Download or read book Écotoxicochimie des hydrocarbures written by PICOT André and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
