Book Synopsis Cytokines and Cytokine Receptors by : Constantin A. Bona
Download or read book Cytokines and Cytokine Receptors written by Constantin A. Bona and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 864 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of cytokine research is expanding at a rapid pace Contributions from the major leading groups in the world on the structure and biological properties of cytokine and cytokine receptors, as well as integrated reviews on cytokines in various physiological and pathological conditions were presented in three issues of International Reviews of Immunology This collection of articles provided a unique source of information However, important discoveries are emerging very rapidly and some of the reviews written in 1997 are already outdated In this book, the editors assemble reviews that have been updated by their authors to include all the recent publications and unpublished data from the authors' laboratories This volume should serve as an excellent reference source for all those concerned by the multiple faces of cytokines in basic research and in the clinic

Book Synopsis Genes for Development, Cell Growth and Infectious Diseases by : Gabriel Gachelin
Download or read book Genes for Development, Cell Growth and Infectious Diseases written by Gabriel Gachelin and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 1995 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work which was published to mark the tenth anniversary of the collaboration between the Institut Pasteur and the Riken Institute in Japan, covers a number of research fields in which both laboratories are active: precocious development in mice and the effect on them of disactivating genes, nuclear oncogenes and their role in controlling cell division, and the molecular bases of bacterial and viral infections. There are also chapters dealing with specific aspects of immune recognition, the genetics of sexual determination in humans and a new technique for studying the human genome. This book is intended for researchers and physicians in the fields of immunology, genetics, bacteriology/virology, cancerology, developmental biology, cellular biology and neurobiology.
Book Synopsis Non-visual Human-computer Interactions by : Dominique Burger
Download or read book Non-visual Human-computer Interactions written by Dominique Burger and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 1993 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multimodal interface systems make it possible to interact with computers using speech and hearing, touch and gesture. The role of vision in human computer interaction could therefore be brought back to its natural place in communication. In many applications, non-visual presentation methods could be used efficiently to provide more natural human-computer interfaces. This evolution is of particular relevance for the visually handicapped. The purpose of this book is to provide a complete understanding of state-of-the-art research in non-visual human-computer interaction. The book is aimed at all researchers and developers interested in improving the accessibility of software applications, especially for people with disabilities.
Book Synopsis Human Sperm Acrosome Reaction by : Patrick Fénichel
Download or read book Human Sperm Acrosome Reaction written by Patrick Fénichel and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 1995 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This valuable reference work provides a synthesis of the latest knowledge about the acrosomatic reaction of human sperm. The acrosomatic reaction, which is a fundamental step in the process of fertilisation, is examined on both the fundamental and clinical levels. Three very recent aspects are also dealt with: what happens to the acrosome during intracytoplasmic microinjections, the usefulness of screening spermatozoa that have completed their acrosomatic reaction, and the development of contraception by a vaccine that targets one of the proteins of the acrosome. International Symposium, Collioure, France, September 1995.
Download or read book Anxiety written by Michel Hamon and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 1993 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although everybody had and will experience anxiety, its intensity, frequency and characteristics may vary from what can be considered as "normal" to pathological. The development of benzodiazepine as anxiolytics has been a major step firstly in therapeutics and secondly in the understanding of the associated biological mechanisms. Recently, new drugs without secondary effects of benzodiazepines have been developed. The purpose of the book was to take stock of the present knowledge: clinical aspects of pathological anxiety, neurobiological mechanisms associated with stress and anxiety, molecular targets of potent anxiolytic drugs, new issues and directions.
Book Synopsis Ontogeny of Hematopoiesis, Aplastic Anemia by : Eliane Gluckman
Download or read book Ontogeny of Hematopoiesis, Aplastic Anemia written by Eliane Gluckman and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 1995 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many questions were raised during this multidisciplinary meeting during which geneticists, haematologists, embryologists, immunologists, transplant surgeons and physicians exchanged views on these questions. The second part of the meeting was devoted to an examination of the mechanisms of medullary deficiency. A more clinical approach was taken to the epidemiological, molecular and genetic aspects of medullary deficiency. There was also discussion of various therapeutic methods, including transplants, the use of haematopoietic growth factors, immunosuppressive treatments and gene therapy. Proceedings of the joint international workshop on "Foetal and neonatal hematopoiesis and mechanisms of bone marrow failure", Paris, April 1995.
Book Synopsis Endocrinology of Embryo—Endometrium Interactions by : Stanley R. Glasser
Download or read book Endocrinology of Embryo—Endometrium Interactions written by Stanley R. Glasser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early embryonic loss is a continuing social and economic global problem. In human populations the estimates of interruptions early in pregnancy range from 35-60%. In animal husbandry (swine, ruminants) fully 30% of pregnancies fail to survive early events of gestation. The futility associated with this persistant high risk is even more unsettling because of advances made in assisted reproductive technology which, although this very selective methodology has added to our knowledge of embryo-endometrial interactions, has resulted in a birth rate of only 14%. These studies have instigated comparisons of the live relative contributions of the embryo and the uterus to the outcome of pregnancy. These analyses have shown that we have learned significantly less about the role of the uterus in deciding the outcome of either natural or assisted pregnancies. In 1979 a quotation by George Corner was used to set the tone of a meeting that was devoted to discussion of the cellular and molecular aspects of implantation. In spite of the proliferation in research activity which occurred in the following 15 years our real understanding of the embryo transfer process has fallen short of our expectations. We use the Corner quotation, once again, to preface this symposium so that we may recall that the fundamental nature of the process which regulates embryo-endometrial interactions still escapes us.
