Book excerpt: Historically, knowledge of gene-specific transcription has been accumulated by the study of the individual genetic and physical interactions between transcriptional regulators and the genes they regulate, often requiring considerable time and effort. Microarray technology now enables investigation of gene expression at the level of the entire genome, allowing researchers access to rich datasets and promising new levels of depth in the understanding of transcriptional regulation. Our lab has made use of these technologies both to measure the levels of all mRNA transcripts within a population of cells, as well as to locate the regions within the genome that are bound by transcriptional regulators. Such studies not only allow for the functional annotation of both genes and regulators, but can also provide clues about the identity of the regulatory regions within DNA, the structure of global regulatory networks and the regulation of DNA-binding proteins. These and other insights are presented here based on our genome-wide studies of transcriptional regulation in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Series The fungi represent a heterogeneous assemblage of eukaryotic microorganisms and have become favored organisms for research at the cellular and molecular level. Such research involvement has been stimulated by interest in the biotechnological application of fungi in processes related to industry, agriculture and ecology. Considering both yeasts and mycelial fungi, The Mycota highlights developments in both basic and applied research and presents an overview of fungal systematics and cell structure. Foremost authorities in research on mycology have been assembled to edit and contribute to the volumes. This Volume The third volume includes: Membrane Systems and Transport, Responses to Physical Stress, Transcription, Chromosome Replication, Metabolic Pathways and Regulation.

Book Synopsis Gene Expression and Regulation in Mammalian Cells by : Fumiaki Uchiumi
Download or read book Gene Expression and Regulation in Mammalian Cells written by Fumiaki Uchiumi and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Central dogma" was presented by Dr. Francis Crick 60 years ago. The information of nucleotide sequences on DNAs is transcribed into RNAs by RNA polymerases. We learned the mechanisms of how transcription determines function of proteins and behaviour of cells and even how it brings appearances of organisms. This book is intended for scientists and medical researchers especially who are interested in the relationships between transcription and human diseases. This volume consists of an introductory chapter and 14 chapters, divided into 4 parts. Each chapter is written by experts in the basic scientific field. A collection of articles presented by active and laboratory-based investigators provides recent advances and progresses in the field of transcriptional regulation in mammalian cells.
