However, there are many occasions where economists need to evaluate companies, such as in lending, in business investments, in the sale or transfer of companies or in tax reasons (estate duty). In this bachelor thesis, different methods will be presented and discussed. In the increasing global competition and the associated need for internationalization, economists have developed different models over the last three decades. In this work, the focus is on the evaluation of SME. Here will be a special on function-oriented appraisal systems (such as the discounted cash flow method, etc.).

Book Synopsis Prediction of highly lucrative companies using annual statements: A Data Mining based approach by : Jurij Weinblat
Download or read book Prediction of highly lucrative companies using annual statements: A Data Mining based approach written by Jurij Weinblat and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intention of this study is to predict one year in advance whether a regarded firm will grow extraordinarily in the next year. This is crucial for private investors and fund managers who need to decide whether they should invest in a certain firm. Companies like Apple and Amazon have shown that people who recognized the potential of such companies at the right time earned a lot of money. The applied prediction models can also be used by politicians to identify companies which are eligible for funding, because growing companies oftentimes hire many employees. Since annual reports are often publically available for free, it is reasonable to take advantage of them for such a prediction. The prediction models are based on classification trees and forests because they have some very substantial advantages over other methods like neural networks, which are frequently used in literature. For instance, they do not have distributional assumptions, accept both quantitative and qualitative inputs, and are not sensitive with respect to outliers. Furthermore, they are easy to understand by humans and can deal with missing values, which is crucial for practical applications.

It is therefore particularly relevant for students, high school graduates, trainees and practitioners to deal with the technical terminology at an early stage in order to acquire the necessary knowledge. This work is intended to be a compact support. The lexicon contains the most important English technical terms from the field of accounting, which are explained in detail from A to Z in alphabetical order. At the same time, they are contrasted with the German technical terms. This underlines the international orientation of the lexicon. Another special feature of the lexicon is that references are made to legal principles. The lexicon is particularly suitable for studies and for further education in order to be optimally prepared for exams.
Book Synopsis Agency Theory, Information, and Incentives by : Günter Bamberg
Download or read book Agency Theory, Information, and Incentives written by Günter Bamberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agency Theory is a new branch of economics which focusses on the roles of information and of incentives when individuals cooperate with respect to the utilisation of resources. Basic approaches are coming from microeco nomic theory as well as from risk analysis. Among the broad variety of ap plications are: the many designs of contractual arrangements, organiza tions, and institutions as well as the manifold aspects of the separation of ownership and control so fundamental for business finance. After some twenty years of intensive research in the field of information economics it might be timely to present the most basic issues, questions, models, and applications. This volume Agency Theory, Information, and Incentives offers introductory surveys as well as results of individual rese arch that seem to shape that field of information economics appropriately. Some 30 authors were invited to present their subjects in such a way that students could easily become acquainted with the main ideas of informa tion economics. So the aim of Agency Theory, Information, and Incentives is to introduce students at an intermediate level and to accompany their work in classes on microeconomics, information economics, organization, management theory, and business finance. The topics selected form the eight sections of the book: 1. Agency Theory and Risk Sharing 2. Information and Incentives 3. Capital Markets and Moral Hazard 4. Financial Contracting and Dividends 5. External Accounting and Auditing 6. Coordination in Groups 7. Property Rights and Fairness 8. Agency Costs.

Book Synopsis Shifting Power in Asia-Pacific? by : Enrico Fels
Download or read book Shifting Power in Asia-Pacific? written by Enrico Fels and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates whether a power shift has taken place in the Asia-Pacific region since the end of the Cold War. By systematically examining the development of power dynamics in Asia-Pacific, it challenges the notion that a wealthier and militarily more powerful China is automatically turning the regional tides in its favour. With a special emphasis on Sino-US competition, the book explores the alleged linkage between the regional distribution of relevant material and immaterial capabilities, national power and the much-cited regional power shift. The book presents a novel concept for measuring power in international relations by outlining a composite index on aggregated power (CIAP) that includes 55 variables for 44 regional countries and covers a period of twenty years. Moreover, it develops a middle power theory that outlines the significance of middle powers in times of major power shifts. By addressing political, military and economic cooperation via a structured-focused comparison and by applying a comparative-historical analysis, the book analyses in depth the bilateral relations of six regional middle powers to Washington and Beijing.
