Book excerpt: This book is a collection of columns, initially written for a church magazine. From childhood in Sunday School the author has been fascinated by the stories in the bible and here in his Biblical Musings he shares that sense of wonder with the reader in a set of original, irreverent sketches. If you want to know what exactly went on with, for example, Moses in the basket or with Solomon's judgement of the two prostitutes, this is the book for you. There is even an entertaining chapter on the book of Revelation. The musings have reportedly been very helpful to preaching ministers, home groups and students of the bible. However, you don't have to be a church-going Christian, or professional theologian to enjoy this collection, but keep a bible handy just in case you want to look something up.

Book excerpt: I had always believed in the healing power of our Lord, and viewed my life as one of service to Him via the practice of medicine. But, in retrospect, I had a deeper trust in the power of modern medicine and science than I did in Jesus Christ and His fully accomplished work on the Cross. My thinking was flawed, but, as I grew in my walk with the Lord and meditated on Scripture more fully, I began to see the superiority of faith over the limited interventions modern medical science had to offer, and that this interplay between faith and science was not mutually exclusive, but complimentary, for the spiritual aspects of our lives illuminate and empower the carnal aspects of intellect and physical senses. I began jotting notes to myself related to this interplay of faith and healing and science, and just filed them away...for years. IThen, in December of 2017, a baby was born to a first time mother of mine, his little body riddled with the most fulminant form of acute lymphoblasic leukemia, almost always fatal. His absolutely miraculous healing was the impetus to start putting these thoughts into writing, in the form of weekday morning emails entitled “A Christian Doctor’s View of Healing, Faiith, and Science”. It was soon made clear to me that these writings were to take the form of a year long devotional book, comprised of short weekday messages that are intimately linked, such that they can be read through as a book. And that book was to paint a picture, and that picture was to be of a face, and the face was to be that of Jesus, for He is the source of all healing

Maybe this will be good, since it will bring variety as the accounts are presented. I never know from one day to the next where my wanderings with God will take me. Book excerpt: In Speaking Christian, acclaimed Bible scholar Marcus Borg, author of Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time, argues that the very language Christians use has become dangerously distilled, distorted, and disconnected from the beliefs which once underpinned it. Stating a case that will resonate with readers of N. T. Wright’s Simply Christian, Borg calls for a radical change to the language we use to invoke our beliefs—the only remedy that will allow the Church's words to once again ring with truth, power, and hope.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to most dictionaries, “Musings” are periods of reflection or thought. After so many years of living (a lot of years!) I’ve been able to experience God in so many incredible ways. In my Family, my Marriage, my Kids and Grandkids, my Ministry and my Music. Call me simple, but I look for God in all activity in my life. From my greatest victories to the most horrible failures, God has been right there in the mix. Nothing happens to me without Him knowing about it. There are still plenty of things I cannot figure out: Why does the creator of the universe who named all the stars think about me - and why so often? Why does He lavish such love on me? Why is He working behind the scenes orchestrating all things for my own good. I just don’t get it. You? There I go again ‘Musing’. That’s the story of my life. Enjoy my Musings; hopefully they will bring a smile, an “LOL” or a tear as you read some of my most intimate moments with God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16, ESV) Amen does not mean “the end,” rather “I agree” or “I confirm.” The sin of adultery is not only physical but spiritual as well. We are justified (forgiven of sin) at the point of conversion, but sanctification (being made holy) is a lifelong process. The curtain torn at Jesus’s crucifixion was over six inches thick and sixty feet tall. The Tree of Life is the real reason Adam and Eve were banished from the garden. Satan, once the morning star of heaven, the model of perfection, did not fall from heaven, he was shoved out by God for his arrogance and pride. George T. Yapuncich, a pastor, mentor, husband, father, farmer and retired international businessman, reflects on these and hundreds of other terms, doctrines and biblical thoughts in this anthology prepared for contemplation and growth in biblical understanding. Its purpose is to open God’s Word to comprehend His glory and majesty more fully. Each term is exhibited in a Bible verse, demonstrating its importance and usage. Through direct application the reader can more fully grasp the true connotation of these terms thus invoking thoughts and feelings over and above their primary or literal meanings. This is not a book of definitions, but a book of images. Its purpose is to encourage the inquisitive mind in not only mining God’s Word, but to more fully live out His Word in thought and deed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am caught up in a war between the demonic forces of Satan and the good forces of God. I have chosen to be on God's side. As a result of choosing sides, my enemy becomes Satan and his forces. These demonic forces have led the world into evil and are prowling the earth for souls to capture. I live on this earth with these unseen demonic forces, and they are messing with me. The battle is for my soul to either enjoy eternal life or condemnation. I once was an enemy of God, and then I rebelled. I rebelled against Satan, the devil. I rebelled against the devil by accepting Jesus the Messiah as my Savior and, hence, was brought into the presence of God as holy and just. Subsequently, the devil personalized me as his enemy and started pursuing and harassing me. The enemy endeavors to compromise my conviction and journey to be a true disciple of Jesus. My daily focus is to be filled with the Holy Spirit and do God's will, whatever it may be. The enemy will endeavor to use all his wiles to prevent or discourage me from doing God's will. This musing is a mechanism for me to readily identify the enemy's schemes, isms, schisms and to dismiss them and focus on God's will.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian Musings Volume I Evidence of God's Grace This volume contains 33 individual commentaries regarding my earlier thoughts related to a variety of God's dealings with His creation. Included also are several observations regarding sin and its consequences along with studies about a saving faith and many false faiths that lead to damnation when one falsely believes that he or she are ok. The greatest tragedies occur when one believes one is a saved Christian yet fails to recognize what really provides salvation. Included are commentaries regarding a variety of biblically related issues that I pray will add to the reader's understanding of God's inerrant Word which we call the Holy Bible. These were written shortly after I came to the belief in Jesus and the profound importance of what the Bible would reveal if one were to study it single-mindedly and through the discernment given to us through the Holy Spirit. This occurred late in my life. As I look back I can see that God's hand was on me from birth. I was 70 years old when I first opened the Bible to read it. At age 68 I was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I was given 6 months to a year to live. God's "undercover" guidance, led me through many alternative treatments. All traces of my cancer left me 18 months later. I've been cancer free for 17 years. Only after I began reading the Bible did I recognize Who extended my life. He then gave me an insatiable hunger to better understand His Word and to share this through these "musings." This and the subsequent volumes are the result of this most blessed ministry that has since been the main purpose of my life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Musing in the Footsteps of Jesus beckons you to interact with the real and imaginary characters involved in events of Jesuss early ministry. Witness the life-changing effect on a tent maker and his two young sons as Jesus receives baptism in the Jordan River accompanied by the voice of God introducing him as his beloved son. Be with Jesus in a cave for forty days, preparing for the attack by Satan and his airborne, warring angels. Marvel at how a bear and an owl contribute to Jesuss survival. Enjoy the sense of humor of the fishermen who joke of the Messiah as their big catch. Later, as Jesuss full-time disciples, they cheerfully confess they are the ones enmeshed in a net. The wedding in Cana turns comical when a renowned chef finds the wine unworthy of his recipes. Jesuss new wine proves to be the best wine ever to touch the gourmets palate. A Pharisee ruler comes to Jesus at night. As the schooled priest asks Jesus of the secrets of heaven, the mans conflicting thoughts reveal his character and spirituality. The woman at Jacobs well appears to be a repentant sinner yearning for a Messiah. The vision Jesus sees of her past explains why he tells her, before all others, that he is the Christ. When a rich man asks Jesus how to get to heaven, Christ answers that he must part with his riches and serve him. The man leaves with a sad countenance. Hear the mystical voice from a whirlwind, see the rich mans fanciful flight on a horse to the moon, and you will understand why he chose to obey Jesus and serve him. This storyteller prays these dreams will increase your hunger for deeper understanding of the Holy Scriptures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What good does it do to spend time meditating on God? When we dwell on His person, we enter into His presence and being there bring eternal life. How can a finite mind truly know a God who is infinite? To bridge this gap and solve this issue, God took steps that only He could take to bring us places only He can go. Our human limitations do not change the fact that He can do anything. In the second volume of Christian Musings, author Bill Moore invites you once again to stop, sit down and make the time to truly focus on the Lord. The focus this time around is on Christ's role as the mediator, why that role exists in the way that it does and what it means to be on the receiving end of this work. Through characters and stories from the Bible, Moore leads you down a path that ends with seeing how mediation leads to salvation. Paul's word in Philippians 2:12 shows us that although we cannot work for our salvation, we must work it out. The salvation of each individual is not up to anyone but the individual. Bill Moore shows you the choices that lead away from God and those that lead to Him-ones you can recognize in your own actions or determine to develop in your daily life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today’s world, musing is a lost art that desperately needs to be rediscovered. Contrary to popular belief, we don’t run farther when we run faster. A full daily planner that leaves little time for thoughtful reflection, leads to an empty, unfulfilled life. A packed schedule sets aside one of the great purposes of life, to exercise the mind and stoke the creative spark within. We need to muse and muse often. In Musings from an Old Wooden Bridge, author MJ Gaylor offers a collection of random musings, complemented with Scripture, Bible stories, and personal experiences. The lead story, “Life Cycles,” expresses the importance of transitioning from one phase of life to the next, both as a Christian and as an individual. Moving successfully through each stage brings us to maturity, which is the goal of our human experience. “The Impossible Made Easy,” emphasizes the ease of the Christian life in contrast to how difficult we sometimes make it. Borrowing a phrase from baseball great Honus Wagner, Gaylor surmises that there’s not a lot to being a Christian, if you are one. The selection “Loved by God,” explores the love that God has for each of us. It is only when we receive His love that we begin to love ourselves. Treasuring ourselves as creations of God is the first step in loving others. Insightful and introspective, Musings from an Old Wooden Bridge encourages the reader to think deeply concerning the true meaning of life.

Book excerpt: Life is hard. Sometimes, it feels like we are hanging by a thread. How can we think so that we become better and not bitter as we experience some of life's traumas? The primary theme of this book is that we must focus on God's grace rather than the trials. We must look for and celebrate what we see God doing in our lives, even as the world sometimes seems to crumble around us.Rather than using this book to toss a lot of principles at the reader, the author shares many stories from his personal experiences. Matt has filled this book with examples of what it looks like to live in a broken world while keeping our mind positive by focusing on the good things that God is doing. The goal is to encourage the reader to refuse to be overwhelmed with the troubles of life. The reader will be motivated to focus on God's grace and celebrate it.
