As in they don’t stop selling (shipping over 1 million copies a year), don’t stop pleasing, and don’t stop filling an essential need for new parents: a book made for the way babies “read,” with their hands and mouths. Old MacDonald Had a Farm is the E-I-E-I-Oh! classic that introduces baby to the world of farm animals and the different ways each has of talking—the pig with his oink-oink, the cow with her moo-moo, and the baa-baas, cluck-clucks and quack-quacks that fill the farmyard. As a reminder, The Original Instructibles are chew-proof, drool-proof, rip-proof —and 100% non-toxic. And when they do get dirty, just throw them in the dishwasher. All for $5.95.

Book Synopsis Glencoe and Beyond by : Iain S. MacDonald
Download or read book Glencoe and Beyond written by Iain S. MacDonald and published by John Donald Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This perceptive and informative study examines all these aspects and shows ultimately that chiefs, tacksmen, clansmen, and even southern sheep-farmers were all individuals reacting to the circumstances in which they found themselves, and that these circumstances themselves were characterised by a great deal of economic turbulence. It has been widely accepted in the past that sheep-farming in the Highlands was developed and undertaken by southern incomers; some modern historians have even dismissed the possibility that Highlanders could have become sheep-farmers because they lacked the necessary skill and capital. Ian S. MacDonald's meticulous research disproves this and illustrates that in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries that while some southern sheep-farmers did indeed move into the Highlands, they were in fact greatly outnumbered by native Highlanders, who saw a future in sheep-farming, initiated it themselves, and ...

Book Synopsis Difficult Heritage by : Sharon Macdonald
Download or read book Difficult Heritage written by Sharon Macdonald and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-10-04 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does a city and a nation deal with a legacy of perpetrating atrocity? How are contemporary identities negotiated and shaped in the face of concrete reminders of a past that most wish they did not have? Difficult Heritage focuses on the case of Nuremberg – a city whose name is indelibly linked with Nazism – to explore these questions and their implications. Using an original in-depth research, using archival, interview and ethnographic sources, it provides not only fascinating new material and perspectives, but also more general original theorizing of the relationship between heritage, identity and material culture. The book looks at how Nuremberg has dealt with its Nazi past post-1945. It focuses especially, but not exclusively, on the city’s architectural heritage, in particular, the former Nazi party rally grounds, on which the Nuremburg rallies were staged. The book draws on original sources, such as city council debates and interviews, to chart a lively picture of debate, action and inaction in relation to this site and significant others, in Nuremberg and elsewhere. In doing so, Difficult Heritage seeks to highlight changes over time in the ways in which the Nazi past has been dealt with in Germany, and the underlying cultural assumptions, motivations and sources of friction involved. Whilst referencing wider debates and giving examples of what was happening elsewhere in Germany and beyond, Difficult Heritage provides a rich in-depth account of this most fascinating of cases. It also engages in comparative reflection on developments underway elsewhere in order to contextualize what was happening in Nuremberg and to show similarities to and differences from the ways in which other ‘difficult heritages’ have been dealt with elsewhere. By doing so, the author offers an informed perspective on ways of dealing with difficult heritage, today and in the future, discussing innovative museological, educational and artistic practice.
Book Synopsis Beyond Ballyhoo by : Mark Thomas McGee
Download or read book Beyond Ballyhoo written by Mark Thomas McGee and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2001-03-15 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Castle, for instance, was a master promoter. In one scheme involving The Tingler, Vincent Price warns in the movie that "the only way to stop the monster is to scream. That's the signal to the projectionist to throw the switch. Under ten or twelve seats were some electric motors, war surplus things that Castle got a bargain on. The motors vibrated the seat, in the hope of scaring a scream out of someone. Just in case it didn't Castle planted someone in the audience to get the screams rolling." This book is about flamboyant promotion, the con artist side of the movie world--everything the ballyhoo boys did to separate the customer from the price of a movie ticket--Emergo, HypnoVista, 3-D, Wide Screen, Cinemagic, Duo-Vision, Dynamation, Smell-O-Vision, plenty more. Supporting the text are 107 photos and illustrations, some never-before-published, and a filmography.

Book Synopsis Beyond the Matrix by : Patricia Cori
Download or read book Beyond the Matrix written by Patricia Cori and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2010-08-31 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those concerned with the current eco-crisis most often look only to scientists and politicians for solutions. In this important book, Patricia Cori invites another, overlooked group—perhaps the most important one—to join the discussion. Beyond the Matrix collects some of the most provocative, forward-thinking interviews conducted on Cori's radio show of the same name, bringing together leaders in various fields of alternative thinking to propose new and exciting perspectives on the future of humanity as we approach the potentially life-changing 2012. Beyond the Matrix offers a portrait of a refreshingly optimistic future in a time when we are bombarded with an apocalypse scenario as the future of our civilization. The book features no-holds-barred, in-depth interviews with such renowned thinkers as New York Times best-selling author and theoretical physicist Michio Kaku, whom many call the Einstein of our times; respected UFO and ET investigator Stanton Friedman; radical Egyptologist Stephen Mehler; former astronaut and the sixth man on the moon Dr. Edgar Mitchell; crop circle expert Andy Thomas; intuitive physicist MaAnna Stephensen; Paradigm Research Group director Stephen Bassett; founder of bluevoice.org Hardy Jones; and nine others. The probing conversations cover a bracing range of subjects, from string theory, UFO and extraterrestrial life, crop circles, and ecology to healing, Egyptian mysticism, ascension, and other significant topics that swirl in our minds as we face a new paradigm for human exploration, where spirit and science finally merge. With its blend of fascinating dialogue and higher ideals, Beyond the Matrix offers both hope and reassurance in these challenging times.
Book Synopsis Looking for Betty MacDonald by : Paula Becker
Download or read book Looking for Betty MacDonald written by Paula Becker and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Betty Bard MacDonald (1907–1958), the best-selling author of The Egg and I and the classic Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle children’s books, burst onto the literary scene shortly after the end of World War II. Readers embraced her memoir of her years as a young bride operating a chicken ranch on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, and The Egg and I sold its first million copies in less than a year. The public was drawn to MacDonald’s vivacity, her offbeat humor, and her irreverent take on life. In 1947, the book was made into a movie starring Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert, and spawned a series of films featuring MacDonald's Ma and Pa Kettle characters. MacDonald followed up the success of The Egg and I with the creation of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, a magical woman who cures children of their bad habits, and with three additional memoirs: The Plague and I (chronicling her time in a tuberculosis sanitarium just outside Seattle), Anybody Can Do Anything (recounting her madcap attempts to find work during the Great Depression), and Onions in the Stew (about her life raising two teenage daughters on Vashon Island). Author Paula Becker was granted full access to Betty MacDonald’s archives, including materials never before seen by any researcher. Looking for Betty MacDonald, a biography of this endearing Northwest storyteller, reveals the story behind the memoirs and the difference between the real Betty MacDonald and her literary persona.
