Zunächst zu einer Definition: Unter aggressivem Verhalten versteht man Verhalten welches zielgerichtet und instrumentell erfolgt. Es hat zum Ziel die eigenen Bedürfnisse und Interesen durchzusetzen. Die grundlegenden Annahmen der psychoanalytischen Entwicklungstheorie gehen größtenteils auf Sigmund Freud zurück. Freud war jedoch kein Entwicklungspsychologe, sondern ein Therapeut und Persönlichkeitspsychologe, der die Zustände der Erwachsenenpersönlichkeit verstehen wollte und so zur Entwicklungspsychologie kam. Die Psychoanalyse stellt eine Lehre von bewussten und unbewussten psychischen Vorgängen wie Gefühlen, Wünschen und Träumen dar. Freud behandelte viele Erwachsenen und sah sich bei der Therapie gezwungen die Entwicklungsgeschichte bis in die frühe Kindkeit zurückzuverfolgen. Außerdem erkannte er, dass die frühkindliche Entwicklung für die gesamte Persönlichkeitsentwicklung eine herausragende Bedeutung spielt. Im Laufe der ersten sechs Lebensjahre sind nach Freud alle Grundthemen des menschlichen Zusammenlebens, wie Liebe, Gehorsam, Besitz usw. angeklungen und die erste Vereinigung aller Sexualtriebe ist bis dahin erfolgt. Die Richtung der weiteren Persönlichkeitsentwicklung ist somit vorgegeben. Neben seiner Phasentheorie der psychoanalytischen Entwicklung hat er unter anderem eine Persönlichkeitstheorie aufgestellt, um das Verstehen der Entwicklungstheorie zu gewährleisten.

Viele Kinder erleben heute Unsicherheiten in den familiären Beziehungen und werden Zeuge von Spannungen in der Partnerschaft ihrer Eltern. Heranwachsende werden immer häufiger von alleinerziehenden Elternteilen betreut und leiden unter einer neuen, sozialen Armut. Die stetig ansteigenden Leistungsanforderungen der Schule und Gesellschaft bewirken weiteren starken Druck auf die jungen Individuen. Besonders das deutsche Schulsystem, welches in den letzten Jahren starken Veränderungen und Umstrukturierungen unterliegt, stellt eine große Herausforderung für Schüler und Lehrer dar. Oftmals wird die Schule zum Ort offen ausgetragener aggressiver Handlungen, die sich auch geschlechterspezifisch betrachten lassen können. Auffällig bei dieser Betrachtung ist, dass Störungen bei den Jungen eher in der Kindheitsphase und Schulzeit auftreten und bei den Mädchen eher in der Phase der Adoleszenz.[...]

The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?

In 1939-40, the famed Austrian economist Joseph A. Schumpeter and the famous sociologist Talcott Parsons convened a faculty seminar at Harvard University on the topic of rationality. The first part includes their essays as well as papers by the Austrian phenomenologist Alfred Schütz, the sociologist Wilbert Moore, and the economist Rainer Schickele. Several younger economists and sociologists with bright futures also participated, including Alex Gerschenkron, John Dunlop, Paul M. Sweezy, and Wassily W. Leontief, who was later awarded the Nobel Prize for developing input-output analysis. The second part presents essays and commentaries written by today’s internationally noted social scientists and addressing the topic of rationality in social action from a broad range of perspectives.
