Book Synopsis Philosophy as Experimentation, Dissidence and Heterogeneity by : José Miranda Justo
Download or read book Philosophy as Experimentation, Dissidence and Heterogeneity written by José Miranda Justo and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary philosophical research interconnects classical domains of philosophy, the arts, literature and social sciences. This collection of essays explores the operational role of experimentation, dissidence and heterogeneity in this process. It offers fundaments for the criticism of monolithical tendencies often put forward under the banner of the ‘Speculative Turn’ or New Realism, by means of exploring the contribution and influence of authors such as J. G. Hamann, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche and Guy Debord. These philosophers, historically placed within the margins of the philosophical mainstream, were decisive in the emergence of the philosophical thought and practices of Deleuze, Wittgenstein and Bataille, as shown here. The reader will also find re-evaluations of the contributions of Vico, Spinoza or Kant to posterity, next to new readings of authors like Foucault, Hadot, Benjamin and Adorno with regards to their significant experimental and dissident positions.

Book Synopsis Bertrand Russell and the Origins of Analytical Philosophy by : Ray Monk
Download or read book Bertrand Russell and the Origins of Analytical Philosophy written by Ray Monk and published by Thoemmes Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of new essays from distinguished philosophers and Russell scholars from around the world seeks, in various ways, to explore Russell's own unique and enduringly important contribution to shaping the concerns and the methods of contemporary analytical philosophers. It includes both general discussions of the nature of analytical philosophy and minutely detailed analyses of Russell's own arguments, and covers the whole range of Russell's famously varied output, from his Essay on the Foundations of Geometry to his often neglected work on ethics. Taken together this collection shows us why Russell's work deserves to be reconsidered and provides essential guidelines as to the form that reconsideration should take. It will be read by all who seek to understand, not only Russell's contributions to the analytical tradition, but the nature of that tradition itself.

Download or read book No que acredito written by Bertrand Russel and published by L&PM Pocket. This book was released on 2007-04-05 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Bertrand Russell and the Nature of Propositions by : Samuel Lebens
Download or read book Bertrand Russell and the Nature of Propositions written by Samuel Lebens and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bertrand Russell and the Nature of Propositions offers the first book-length defence of the Multiple Relation Theory of Judgement (MRTJ). Although the theory was much maligned by Wittgenstein and ultimately rejected by Russell himself, Lebens shows that it provides a rich and insightful way to understand the nature of propositional content. In Part I, Lebens charts the trajectory of Russell’s thought before he adopted the MRTJ. Part II reviews the historical story of the theory: What led Russell to deny the existence of propositions altogether? Why did the theory keep evolving throughout its short life? What role did G. F. Stout play in the evolution of the theory? What was Wittgenstein’s concern with the theory, and, if we can’t know what his concern was exactly, then what are the best contending hypotheses? And why did Russell give the theory up? In Part III, Lebens makes the case that Russell’s concerns with the theory weren’t worth its rejection. Moreover, he argues that the MRTJ does most of what we could want from an account of propositions at little philosophical cost. This book bridges the history of early analytic philosophy with work in contemporary philosophy of language. It advances a bold reading of the theory of descriptions and offers a new understanding of the role of Stout and the representation concern in the evolution of the MRTJ. It also makes a decisive contribution to philosophy of language by demonstrating the viability of a no-proposition theory of propositions.

Book Synopsis The Collected Papers of Bertrand Russell Volume 29 by : Bertrand Russell
Download or read book The Collected Papers of Bertrand Russell Volume 29 written by Bertrand Russell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-12 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Détente or Destruction, 1955-57 continues publication of Routledge's multi-volume critical edition of Bertrand Russell's shorter writings. Between September 1955 and November 1957 Russell published some sixty-one articles, reviews, statements, contributions to books and letters to editors, over fifty of which are contained in this volume. The texts, several of them hitherto unpublished, reveal the deepening of Russell's commitment to the anti-nuclear struggle, upon which he embarked in the previous volume of Collected Papers (Man's Peril, 1954-55). Continuing with the theme of nuclear peril, this volume contains discussion of nuclear weapons, world peace, prospects for disarmament and British-Soviet friendship against the backdrop of the Cold War. One of the key papers in this volume is Russell's message to the inaugural conference of the Pugwash movement, which Russell was instrumental in launching and which became an influential, independent forum of East-West scientific cooperation and counsel on issues as an internationally agreed nuclear test-ban. In addition to the issues of war and peace, Russell, now in his eighties, continued to take an interest in a wide variety of themes. Russell not only addresses older controversies over nationalism and empire, religious belief and American civil liberties, he also confronts head-on the new and pressing matters of armed intervention in Hungary and Suez, and of the manufacture and testing of the British hydrogen bomb. This volume includes seven interviews ranging from East-West Relations after the Geneva conference to a Meeting with Russell.
