Book Synopsis Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Applications by : Alberto Cialdea
Download or read book Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Applications written by Alberto Cialdea and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-01-14 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes several invited lectures given at the International Workshop "Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Applications", held at the Mathematical Department of Sapienza University of Rome, on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Vladimir G. Maz'ya, a renowned mathematician and one of the main experts in the field of pure and applied analysis. The book aims at spreading the seminal ideas of Maz'ya to a larger audience in faculties of sciences and engineering. In fact, all articles were inspired by previous works of Maz'ya in several frameworks, including classical and contemporary problems connected with boundary and initial value problems for elliptic, hyperbolic and parabolic operators, Schrödinger-type equations, mathematical theory of elasticity, potential theory, capacity, singular integral operators, p-Laplacians, functional analysis, and approximation theory. Maz'ya is author of more than 450 papers and 20 books. In his long career he obtained many astonishing and frequently cited results in the theory of harmonic potentials on non-smooth domains, potential and capacity theories, spaces of functions with bounded variation, maximum principle for higher-order elliptic equations, Sobolev multipliers, approximate approximations, etc. The topics included in this volume will be particularly useful to all researchers who are interested in achieving a deeper understanding of the large expertise of Vladimir Maz'ya.
Book Synopsis Iteration Theory - Proceedings Of The European Conference by : W Forg-rob
Download or read book Iteration Theory - Proceedings Of The European Conference written by W Forg-rob and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-07-03 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iteration theory has its roots in the operation of substituting functions into itself. This has led to questions like that of the behaviour of functions by repeating this substitution and when the number of iterations tends to infinity. The terms 'orbit' and 'chaos' appropriately describe this behaviour. Dynamical systems and the theory of functional equations play important roles in this field.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling, Simulation, Visualization and e-Learning by : Dialla Konaté
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling, Simulation, Visualization and e-Learning written by Dialla Konaté and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-08 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features articles written by some of the most prominent leading applied mathematicians as well as young and promising ones. The common objective of these articles is to present an important issue which is currently widely discussed in scientific investigation with major human, economic or ecological implications. Each article is as deep as an expert lecture but is also self-contained, so that even isolated scientists with limited resources can profit greatly from it.

Book Synopsis The Doctrine of Triangles by : Glen Van Brummelen
Download or read book The Doctrine of Triangles written by Glen Van Brummelen and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An interdisciplinary history of trigonometry from the mid-sixteenth century to the early twentieth The Doctrine of Triangles offers an interdisciplinary history of trigonometry that spans four centuries, starting in 1550 and concluding in the 1900s. Glen Van Brummelen tells the story of trigonometry as it evolved from an instrument for understanding the heavens to a practical tool, used in fields such as surveying and navigation. In Europe, China, and America, trigonometry aided and was itself transformed by concurrent mathematical revolutions, as well as the rise of science and technology. Following its uses in mid-sixteenth-century Europe as the "foot of the ladder to the stars" and the mathematical helpmate of astronomy, trigonometry became a ubiquitous tool for modeling various phenomena, including animal populations and sound waves. In the late sixteenth century, trigonometry increasingly entered the physical world through the practical disciplines, and its societal reach expanded with the invention of logarithms. Calculus shifted mathematical reasoning from geometric to algebraic patterns of thought, and trigonometry’s participation in this new mathematical analysis grew, encouraging such innovations as complex numbers and non-Euclidean geometry. Meanwhile in China, trigonometry was evolving rapidly too, sometimes merging with indigenous forms of knowledge, and with Western discoveries. In the nineteenth century, trigonometry became even more integral to science and industry as a fundamental part of the science and engineering toolbox, and a staple subject in high school classrooms. A masterful combination of scholarly rigor and compelling narrative, The Doctrine of Triangles brings trigonometry’s rich historical past full circle into the modern era.

Book Synopsis Matrix Inequalities for Iterative Systems by : Hanjo Taubig
Download or read book Matrix Inequalities for Iterative Systems written by Hanjo Taubig and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-02-03 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reviews inequalities for weighted entry sums of matrix powers. Applications range from mathematics and CS to pure sciences. It unifies and generalizes several results for products and powers of sesquilinear forms derived from powers of Hermitian, positive-semidefinite, as well as nonnegative matrices. It shows that some inequalities are valid only in specific cases. How to translate the Hermitian matrix results into results for alternating powers of general rectangular matrices? Inequalities that compare the powers of the row and column sums to the row and column sums of the matrix powers are refined for nonnegative matrices. Lastly, eigenvalue bounds and derive results for iterated kernels are improved.

Book Synopsis Integer Programming and Related Areas by : Rabe v. Randow
Download or read book Integer Programming and Related Areas written by Rabe v. Randow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fields of integer programming and combinatorial optimization continue to be areas of great vitality, with an ever increasing number of publications and journals appearing. A classified bibliography thus continues to be necessary and useful today, even more so than it did when the project, of which this is the fifth volume, was started in 1970 in the Institut fur Okonometrie und Operations Research of the University of Bonn. The pioneering first volume was compiled by Claus Kastning during the years 1970 - 1975 and appeared in 1976 as Volume 128 of the series Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems published by the Springer Verlag. Work on the project was continued by Dirk Hausmann, Reinhardt Euler, and Rabe von Randow, and resulted in the publication of the second, third, and fourth volumes in 1978, 1982, and 1985 (Volumes 160, 197, and 243 of the above series). The present book constitutes the fifth volume of the bibliography and covers the period from autumn 1984 to the end of 1987. It contains 5864 new publications by 4480 authors and was compiled by Rabe von Randow. Its form is practically identical to that of the first four volumes, some additions having been made to the subject list.
