Book Synopsis Benjamin's Parasite by : Jeff Strand
Download or read book Benjamin's Parasite written by Jeff Strand and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-21 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At any given moment, the human body contains millions of parasites. This is the story of just one. A really, really nasty one. Benjamin Wilson was having a lousy month even before the stomach pains began. He was about to turn forty. One of his students had been shot while on a homicidal meat cleaver rampage. And shortly after the funeral, Benjamin didn't feel so good... Now everything is changing. His body is being affected in some very unpleasant ways. His personality is developing a few "quirks." But the biggest change is that he has a bunch of evil and/or psychotic people trying to hunt him down to acquire the parasite. His only hope is Julie, a gorgeous bounty hunter who may or may not have Benjamin's best interests in mind, and who may or may not be competent enough to help him anyway. Jeff Strand, author of Dead Clown Barbecue, Wolf Hunt, and Blister, delivers his most outrageous adventure yet--an over-the-top mix of gruesome body horror and a wacky road trip comedy.
Book Synopsis The Parasite by : Arthur Conan Doyle
Download or read book The Parasite written by Arthur Conan Doyle and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 1894 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: March 24. The spring is fairly with us now. Outside my laboratory window the great chestnut-tree is all covered with the big, glutinous, gummy buds, some of which have already begun to break into little green shuttlecocks. As you walk down the lanes you are conscious of the rich, silent forces of nature working all around you. The wet earth smells fruitful and luscious. Green shoots are peeping out everywhere. The twigs are stiff with their sap; and the moist, heavy English air is laden with a faintly resinous perfume. Buds in the hedges, lambs beneath them-everywhere the work of reproduction going forward! I can see it without, and I can feel it within. We also have our spring when the little arterioles dilate, the lymph flows in a brisker stream, the glands work harder, winnowing and straining. Every year nature readjusts the whole machine. I can feel the ferment in my blood at this very moment, and as the cool sunshine pours through my window I could dance about in it like a gnat. So I should, only that Charles Sadler would rush upstairs to know what was the matter. Besides, I must remember that I am Professor Gilroy. An old professor may afford to be natural, but when fortune has given one of the first chairs in the university to a man of four-and-thirty he must try and act the part consistently.

Download or read book The Parasite written by Ferenc Barnás and published by Hungarian List. This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marked by powerful and evocative prose, Ferenc Barn s's novel tells the fascinating story of a young man's journey through his strange obsessions towards possible recovery. The unnamed narrator is the parasite, feeding off others' ailments, but he is also a host who attracts people with the most peculiar manias. He confesses, almost amiably, his decadent attraction as a young adolescent to illnesses and hospitals. The real descent into his private, hallucinatory hell begins after his first sexual encounter; he becomes a compulsive masturbator, and then a compulsive fornicator. But to his horror, he realizes that casual sex is not casual at all for him--each one-night stand results in insane jealousy: he imagines previous lovers hovering over him every time he makes love to a woman. When he gets to know a woman referred to as L., he thinks his demons may have finally subsided. But when he hears of her past, the jealousy returns. He seeks relief through writing--by weaving an imagined tale of L.'s amorous adventures. What will he do with this strange manuscript, and can it bring him healing? A breathtaking blend of Dostoevskian visions, episodes of madness, and intellectual fervor, all delivered in precise, lucid prose, The Parasite is a novel that one cannot escape.

Book Synopsis Parasites and Parasitosis of the Domestic Animals by : Benjamin Mott Underhill
Download or read book Parasites and Parasitosis of the Domestic Animals written by Benjamin Mott Underhill and published by . This book was released on 1920 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First paragraph of Preface: In the preparation of this work the author has aimed to present clearly, concisely, and in orderly manner such matter pertaining to the subject at hand as seems most essential to the needs of the student and the practitioner. Notwithstanding its elementary character, the present rapid advances in parasitology have necessitated numerous changes and additions to the manuscript during its preparation. New species and unsettling facts and theories as to some which are not new are, in these days of intensive research, frequently being brought to light and reported upon. Some of these findings represent or lead to a distinct advance and, though the observations be in certain cases upon obscure and in themselves unimportant species, they may, by analogy, shed valuable light upon life histories and modes of infection of related forms known to be injurious to domestic animals and man. So frequent are these steps forward that it might almost seem better to leave comparative parsitology at the present time to the fragmental attention it has mainly received, and possibly it is to this view that the lack of a recent American volume upon the subject may be attributed. Be that as it may, this book is not intended to be comprehensive, and it contains but little discussion, historical or otherwise, of investigations in the field of medical zoology, -limitaions which may, in measure, contribute to it a longer period of usefulness in its present form than could be hoped for in an exhaustive treatise. With but few exceptions, the parasites considered are those most likely to be met with and as to which most of the facts pertaining to their biology and pathogenicity have been well established.
