Book Synopsis Environmental Control in Thermal Power Plants by : T.M. Aggarwal
Download or read book Environmental Control in Thermal Power Plants written by T.M. Aggarwal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From wood and coal to predominantly oil and natural gas. Thermal Power Plants use fuels for power generation. Water is used for process, cooling, as well as for service/drinking requirement. Chemicals are used for conditioning of water, corrosion-control and sometimes for conditioning of fuel as well. Lubricants are used for machinery. These inputs generate waste products. Human related wastes (sewage etc.) are also generated along with the processed waste. These pollutants/wastes need to be treated before their disposal from the plants. The treated effluents are required to meet the limits set by Central / State Pollution Control Boards. The regulations, issued by these agencies, specify the maximum allowable limits applicable to the pollutants discharge from the Power Plants. This book is a serious effort that deals in detail with all the above issues and we are sure that scientists, academicians, researchers and professionals who are constantly facing these issues and are striving to move towards a zero emission regime, will find this monograph a very useful reference tool on the topic. Note: T&F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Book Synopsis Geothermal Power Plants by : Ronald DiPippo
Download or read book Geothermal Power Plants written by Ronald DiPippo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-08 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ron DiPippo, Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, is a world-regarded geothermal expert. This single resource covers all aspects of the utilization of geothermal energy for power generation from fundamental scientific and engineering principles. The thermodynamic basis for the design of geothermal power plants is at the heart of the book and readers are clearly guided on the process of designing and analysing the key types of geothermal energy conversion systems. Its practical emphasis is enhanced by the use of case studies from real plants that increase the reader's understanding of geothermal energy conversion and provide a unique compilation of hard-to-obtain data and experience. An important new chapter covers Environmental Impact and Abatement Technologies, including gaseous and solid emissions; water, noise and thermal pollutions; land usage; disturbance of natural hydrothermal manifestations, habitats and vegetation; minimisation of CO2 emissions and environmental impact assessment. The book is illustrated with over 240 photographs and drawings. Nine chapters include practice problems, with solutions, which enable the book to be used as a course text. Also includes a definitive worldwide compilation of every geothermal power plant that has operated, unit by unit, plus a concise primer on the applicable thermodynamics.* Engineering principles are at the heart of the book, with complete coverage of the thermodynamic basis for the design of geothermal power systems* Practical applications are backed up by an extensive selection of case studies that show how geothermal energy conversion systems have been designed, applied and exploited in practice* World renowned geothermal expert DiPippo has including a new chapter on Environmental Impact and Abatement Technology in this new edition

Book Synopsis Thermal Power Plants by : Robin A. Chaplin
Download or read book Thermal Power Plants written by Robin A. Chaplin and published by Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems. This book was released on 2009-12-30 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal Power Plants theme is a component of Encyclopedia of Energy Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty Encyclopedias. The Theme on Thermal Power Plants presents three main topics which are then expanded into multiple subtopics, each as a chapter. The first topic covers the basic theory including fossil fuel combustion, nuclear fission, thermal fluids and thermodynamic cycles. It then deals with those aspects important to the maintenance of high efficiency and good reliability such as exergy analysis, material characteristics and life extension. The second topic deals with the production of steam. Although this is only the heat receiving part of the steam cycle it is consistent with the general layout of the power plant where the fossil fuel fired boiler or nuclear fission reactor is a separate and distinct part with its own ancilliary equipment. Fossil boilers and nuclear reactors both produce steam but are so different that each is covered separately in its respective series of chapters. The third topic deals with the generation of power utilizing the steam produced in the boiler or reactor. Several chapters cover steam turbine design and operation. Since power must be produced to exactly match the demand, consideration is given to operational constraints and protective devices. Heat rejection in cooling towers is important where no large body of water exists and is addressed in one chapter. Gas turbines are used for peak power generation and, with steam turbines, for combined cycle plants so are dealt with in two chapters. Conversion of mechanical power from the turbine to electrical power for distribution to the consumer is an important aspect and is covered by the last chapter. These three volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College Students Educators, Professional Practitioners, Research Personnel and Policy Analysts, Managers, and Decision Makers, NGOs and GOs.
