Book excerpt: Happily married to the rich and handsome Hugo Bowland of Redstone Lodge, Hannah is convinced that she has everything and more than she could ever wish for until the past finds its way back into her life and she becomes haunted by childhood memories and secrets.Beneath the apple blossom tree follows the early life of Hannah, a young girl who at only a few days old, was abandoned outside the orphanage in Little-Orangewood. Set in the nineteenth century the story tells of well kept hidden secrets and the heartache of forbidden love between the barriers of social divide. Rescued from the impoverished orphanage, Hannah is adopted and given a golden opportunity to live a full and privileged life, but it is not a life without heartbreak and emotional upheavals. When Hannah's beau, Gilbert King, mysteriously vanishes from the village of Little-Orangewood where he teaches at the local school, contrary to her adoptive father's beliefs, that he has merely endeavoured on a hasty escape to avoid any premature marriage commitments, Hannah is convinced that there is a more sinister reason behind his disappearance. A family bereavement and a chain of events forces Hannah and her family to leave the village to embark on a new and very different style of life. Now unable to pursue Gilbert's whereabouts, he is left to face his dire circumstances alone and loses all contact with his first love.A spiteful and younger orphan who becomes consumed with jealousy when a chance meeting brings her face to face with Hannah is determined to take revenge for the fact that she has not been given the same prosperous opportunities. Her unforgivable behaviour has detrimental and long-lasting effects on the lives of many. Will Hannah ever be free from her closely guarded secret and find true happiness again and will Gilbert King ever find true happiness again?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deeply resonant memoir for anyone who has loved and lost, from acclaimed poet and Pulitzer Prize finalist Elizabeth Alexander. In The Light of the World, Elizabeth Alexander finds herself at an existential crossroads after the sudden death of her husband. Channeling her poetic sensibilities into a rich, lucid price, Alexander tells a love story that is, itself, a story of loss. As she reflects on the beauty of her married life, the trauma resulting from her husband's death, and the solace found in caring for her two teenage sons, Alexander universalizes a very personal quest for meaning and acceptance in the wake of loss. The Light of the World is at once an endlessly compelling memoir and a deeply felt meditation on the blessings of love, family, art, and community. It is also a lyrical celebration of a life well-lived and a paean to the priceless gift of human companionship. For those who have loved and lost, or for anyone who cares what matters most, The Light of the World is required reading.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under The Apple Tree is a compilation of memories that spans the lifetime of the author. Born in the late 50s, this Montana baby boomer experienced a simple life that entwined hard work and moral values, a time when there was an engrained sense of responsibility that bound folks together. Centered on family, recreation never strayed far from home or the Rocky Mountains. Honesty and integrity were qualities that were the norm in her small rural community. Folks said what they meant and meant what they said; a person was only as good as his or her word. Consumerism was not practiced, televisions were black and white and doctors still did house calls. Recycling and repurposing werent new concepts, they were commonplace. Manufactured goods were made to last and technology was dawdling. In 1969, as a result of a family dispute, her family pulled up roots and moved to the city. The transition from rural living to city dwelling was dissonant and the jump into the 21st century and adulthood wasnt perhaps the smoothest, but this author rose to the challenge, still maintaining those homegrown principles and simple views, in spite of the ebb and flow of everyday life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mindfulness in the Garden offers simple mindfulness verses (gathas) composed to connect the mind and body and to bring the reader/gardener’s awareness to the details of the present moment as they work in the garden. These gathas are signposts leading to nature, to the present, and ultimately to one’s self through the love and understanding they evoke. The gathas offered with each gardening activity serves to water the seeds of mindfulness within us, and softening and preparing the ground for our ability to be present. Mindfulness in the Garden values weeds as important messengers seeking to bring into close communion our spiritual nature with that of the environment. It likens spiritual practice to cultivating a garden and inspires each person to accept themselves and start where they are, weeds and all. Through the practice of mindful gardening, we invite not only the thriving of the natural world but also the flowering and beauty of the pure land of our true self to emerge. Features black and white botanical illustrations throughout. Introduction by Thich Nhat Hanh, author of Present Moment Wonderful Moment Foreword by Wendy Johnson, author of Gardening at the Dragon's Gate
