This book was released on 2011-02-17 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

However, several chapters were revised and extended in various respects. Chapter 5 presents data from the International Victimisation Surveys conducted between 1989 and 2005. In addition, for the first time information is included on self-reported delinquency among juveniles (aged 13-16) that was collected in 2006 during the second international self-reported delinquency survey held in 17 European countries."--Site web de l'éditeur.

Book Synopsis The Hidden Musicians by : Ruth Finnegan
Download or read book The Hidden Musicians written by Ruth Finnegan and published by Wesleyan University Press. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A landmark in the study of music and culture, this acclaimed volume documents the remarkable scope of amateur music-making in the English town of Milton Keynes. It presents in vivid detail the contrasting yet overlapping worlds of classical orchestras, church choirs, brass bands, amateur operatic societies, and amateur bands playing jazz, rock, folk, and country. Notable for its contribution to wider theoretical debates and its influential challenge to long-held assumptions about music and how to study it, the book focuses on the practices rather than the texts or theory of music, rejecting the idea that only selected musical traditions, "great names," or professional musicians are worth studying. This opens the door to the invisible work put in by thousands of local people of diverse backgrounds, and how the pathways creatively trodden by amateur musicians have something to tell us about both urban living and what it is to be human. Now with a new preface by the author, this long-awaited reissue of The Hidden Musicians will bring its insights and innovations to a new generation of students and scholars.

Book Synopsis Sleep Medicine and the Evolution of Contemporary Sleep Pharmacotherapy by : Denis Larrivee

This book was released on 2022-01-07 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sleep is a fundamental physiological feature experienced by all known mammalian, and most non-mammalian, species. Underscoring its importance is the wide array of neural and cellular processes that have evolved to govern when and how it occurs, its duration, sequence of phases, and the influence it exerts on numerous other brain functions. This book takes up the growing prevalence of sleep disorders affecting these processes and the panorama of pharmaceutical tools that have evolved for their medical care. Its wide-ranging discussion promises not only recent updates on their clinical management but a contemporary window into sleep’s cross-cutting relevance for the many neurological dysfunctions now known to associate with sleep disturbances.
Download or read book Profane Culture written by Paul E. Willis and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-08-24 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic of British cultural studies, Profane Culture takes the reader into the worlds of two important 1960s youth cultures—the motor-bike boys and the hippies. The motor-bike boys were working-class motorcyclists who listened to the early rock 'n' roll of the late 1950s. In contrast, the hippies were middle-class drug users with long hair and a love of progressive music. Both groups were involved in an unequal but heroic fight to produce meaning and their own cultural forms in the face of a larger society dominated by the capitalist media and commercialism. They were pioneers of cultural experimentation, the self-construction of identity, and the curating of the self, which, in different ways, have become so widespread today. In Profane Culture, Paul Willis develops an important and still very contemporary theory and methodology for understanding the constructions of lived and popular culture. His new preface discusses the ties between the cultural moment explored in the book and today.

Book Synopsis Experimentation with Human Beings by : Jay Katz
Download or read book Experimentation with Human Beings written by Jay Katz and published by Russell Sage Foundation. This book was released on 1972-07-24 with total page 1210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, increasing concern has been voiced about the nature and extent of human experimentation and its impact on the investigator, subject, science, and society. This casebook represents the first attempt to provide comprehensive materials for studying the human experimentation process. Through case studies from medicine, biology, psychology, sociology, and law—as well as evaluative materials from many other disciplines—Dr. Katz examines the problems raised by human experimentation from the vantage points of each of its major participants—investigator, subject, professions, and state. He analyzes what kinds of authority should be delegated to these participants in the formulation, administration, and review of the human experimentation process. Alternative proposals, from allowing investigators a completely free hand to imposing centralized governmental control, are examined from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The conceptual framework of Experimentation with Human Beings is designed to facilitate not only the analysis of such concepts as "harm," "benefit," and "informed consent," but also the exploration of the problems raised by man's quest for knowledge and mastery, his willingness to risk human life, and his readiness to delegate authority to professionals and rely on their judgment.
Book Synopsis The Cambridge Handbook of Copyright Limitations and Exceptions by : Shyamkrishna Balganesh
Download or read book The Cambridge Handbook of Copyright Limitations and Exceptions written by Shyamkrishna Balganesh and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-07 with total page 719 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While copyright law is ordinarily thought to consist primarily of exclusive rights, the regime's various exemptions and immunities from liability for copyright infringement form an integral part of its functioning, and serve to balance copyright's grant of a private benefit to authors/creators with the broader public interest. With contributors from all over the world, this handbook offers a systematic, thorough study of copyright limitations and exceptions adopted in major jurisdictions, including the United States, the European Union, and China. In addition to providing justifications for these limitations, the chapters compare differences and similarities that exist in major jurisdictions and offer suggestions about how to improve the enforcement of copyright limitations domestically and globally. This work should appeal to scholars, policymakers, attorneys, teachers, judges, and students with an interest in the theories, policies, and doctrines of copyright law.
