Book excerpt: When was the last time we really poured our feelings out to Allah? **** We have been taught that the only time we can communicate with Allah is when we are making du’a to Him. Even then, it comes with a set of restrictive rules that puts a ‘barrier’ between Allah and us. The things we recite are verses that we were told to memorise, but rarely do we truly talk to Allah about the troubles that are weighing down our hearts. Because it feels awkward. Thus when we are down and sad, we seek other means for comforting ourselves, but often they offer only temporary respite. We forget that true comfort lies only with Allah. **** In this book, author Ayesha Syahira takes you on a journey of spiritual discovery; of reconnecting with Allah wholeheartedly. The author focuses on nurturing the lifestyle of talking to Allah; of finding comfort by making du’a to Him at any time of the day.

And it breaks our heart because we try so hard to connect to Him, yet we are just distracted with the worries of this world. What then can we do, to reawaken this longing for closeness to Him, the longing to rely on His forgiveness and mercy? It is not easy to call upon the heart to be present in prayers. We try our best to connect to Him, but still we find our mind wandering someplace else. Thus, in this book, Ayesha Syahira shares with raw honesty about her reflections on discovering the beauty of prayers through patience, surrendering and hope.

When we are alone, that is when we fall into despair — for failing to overcome the struggles that we carry silently in our hearts. Are we considered strong if we do not fall when life pushes us to the ground? Do our faith and belief tell us that we cannot let our misery affect us because as the saying goes, “we must bear patience”? In this book, author Liyana Musfirah takes readers on a reflective journey of discovering the strength that emerges from each of our painful and scarring episodes. This is the book that celebrates what God has given women — the resilience to withstand emotional, spiritual, or even physical hardships.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have many hopes and dreams in life, and as Muslims, we’re taught that after putting in the work and the effort, we must put our trust in Allah SWT for the outcome. We are required to ‘release’ that control to Allah SWT. But when the result we hope for isn’t the one we received, we become devastated. When setbacks and challenges make us feel like we’ll never be able to achieve our dreams, we feel as though we’re being abandoned by God. “Is He purposely not giving me what I prayed for?” “Am I not good enough that He doesn’t answer my prayers?” *** In this book, author Ayesha Syahira invites readers to go on a journey of connecting the lost hearts with Allah — by nurturing trust in Him when we think He has abandoned us, which He never had. It calls for us to seek a balance between taking action and relying on Allah’s will, and ultimately trusting His plans. By letting go and having full trust in Allah, only then can we finally taste the sweetness of surrendering to Allah, our Creator, the One who only wants the best for us.

Sometimes, we even begin to treat Allah with mistrust and suspicion. Without realising it, our hearts begin to whisper things like, “This must be because Allah is angry with us” or “these tests come one after another, when will it end?” Why do we think poorly of Allah? Isn’t Allah’s love and mercy deeper than His wrath? Thus in this book, author Ayesha Syahira shares her comforting words of reflection that guides the heart to seek the mercy of Allah in the face of turbulent storms in life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISIS: Management of Savagery By Ambassador Abdullahi Alazreg In 2014 the extremist organization Islamic State of Iraq and Syria claimed territory in Syria and declared itself a state. But, as Ambassador Abdullahi Alazreg writes, the conflict between the Muslim Middle East and the West has existed for centuries. In recent decades, young Muslims across the globe have flocked to support Muslim countries when those countries have been attacked. The political failure of Middle Eastern governments and misguided Western intervention has created power vacuums that lead to extremism and violence. As a Sudanese ambassador who has served in the West, Alazreg has a unique global view of Muslim issues. He shares his findings with clarity and great passion as he makes an effort to understand – though never condone – ISIS’ rising presence in the Middle East. His use of meticulous research and personal interviews should go far to debunk ISIS myths common in the West. Though ISIS is steadily moving from an ideology to an actual state with territory controlled, Alazreg makes it clear that, more than a physical war, we are in a war of ideas. Therefore, only superior ideas will win. Rather than more futile battles and foreign entanglements, the West should act on principles of justice, equality, and charity. Because ISIS permits only a narrow interpretation of Islam, it is not suited for our changing times. Extremism of all kinds can only be defeated if both the West and East, together and independently, work to build and expand human rights.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The remarkable story of Mohammed Helmy, the Egyptian doctor who risked his life to save Jewish Berliners from the Nazis. One of the people he saved was a Jewish girl called Anna. This book tells their story. The Israeli holocaust memorial at Yad Vashem has to date honoured more than 25,000 of the courageous non-Jewish men and women who saved Jewish people during the Second World War. But it is a striking fact that under the 'Righteous Among the Nations' listed at Yad Vashem there is only one Arab person: Mohammed Helmy. Helmy was an Egyptian doctor living in Berlin. He spent the entire war there, all the time walking the fine line between accommodation to the Nazi regime and subversion of it. He was also a master of deception, outfoxing the Nazis and risking his own life to save his Jewish colleagues and other Jewish Berliners from Nazi persecution. One of the people he saved was a Jewish girl called Anna. This book tells their story. Also revealed here is a wider understanding of the Arab community in Berlin at the time, many of whom had warm relations with the Jewish community, and some of whom - like Mohammed Helmy - risked their lives to help their Jewish friends when the Nazis rose to power. Mohammed Helmy was the most remarkable individual amongst this brave group, but he was by no means the only one.
