Book excerpt: After the Jadra Warriors defeat their enemies on Jadus II, the planet Jadus I is stricken by thirty deadly years of civil war, destroying millennia of culture and advancements, and reducing the population from billions to just millions of half-starved inhabitants. When the fighting finally fades, the planets population struggles to rise from the ashes of destruction, rebuilding itself and its civilization over the course of another fifty years. Whole once again, Jadus I is a force to be reckoned with, a power unmatched across seven galaxies. The people of Jadus II, however, have not forgotten the destruction they endured at the hands of Jadus I. Prime Chancellor Samin Bladen of Jadus II, a greedy and sadistic ruler, initiates a new war of conquest. When Prince Kadan Gladden of Jadus I follows in Bladens footsteps, however, Kadan inspires the rise of the most powerful enemy the worlds of the seven galaxies have ever faced: the Black Wraith Empire, a force that threatens the freedom and lives of billions. Although the Freedom Alliance forms to fight back, the only real hope may rest in the hands of a group of space pirates. In this science fiction saga, the first in a series, the power of an evil empire grows as a group of unlikely allies struggle against that evil might.

Book Synopsis Poems of Francis Thompson by : Francis Thompson
Download or read book Poems of Francis Thompson written by Francis Thompson and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2002-07-04 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the research for her biography of Francis Thompson, Between Heaven and Charing Cross it became clear to Brigid Boardman that a new edition of his poetry was essential for a full recognition of the range and variety of his work. He remains best known for his great poem The Hound of Heaven but his work as a whole has never been properly presented. All previous editions include the many alterations and deletions that were made to Thompson’s work posthumously by Wilfrid Meynell for the edition of 1913. Meynell’s aim was to present the poetry in a strictly orthodox Catholic light in a period when fears about Modernism influenced the Church’s understanding of literature. These anxieties have not served the poetry well. Thompson’s aim was ‘to be the poet of the return to God’ and his work expresses the divine presence that he believed permeated all aspects of life. This edition finally restores an important English poet to the readers that he so deserves.

Download or read book Vurt written by Jeff Noon and published by Watkins Media Limited. This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hailed as the novel that reinvented cyberpunk, The 30th Anniversary edition of Jeff Noon's award winning cult classic, Vurt. Scribble and his gang, the Stash Riders, haunt the streets of an alternate Manchester, chasing the immersive highs that come from Vurt Feathers. Place a feather in your mouth and it takes you to the Vurt: another place, a trip, a shared reality of all our dreams and mythologies. Different coloured feathers provide different experiences, but Scribble is searching for his lost love and only one feather offers the hope of finding her. It’s the ultimate feather, it may not even exist at all: Curious Yellow. But as the Game Cat says, “Be careful, be very careful. This ride is not for the weak.” First published in 1993, Jeff Noon’s extraordinary, influential, award-winning novel transcended SF boundaries and resisted categorization. Alluding to noir and surrealism alike, it was defiantly its own thing and remains so thirty years later. File Under: Fantasy [ Curious Yellow | Urban Wonderland | Game Cat | Living on the Dub Side ]
