In The Renegade’s Heart, Isabella is captivated by the knight who arrives at Kinfairlie to challenge her brother, little realizing that Murdoch has been chosen by the Fae queen to be her prize. Murdoch knows himself to be doomed so takes on the quest of avenging his family before he succumbs to the Fae charm, never realizing that intrepid Isabella holds the key to his release- and his barricaded heart. In The Highlander’s Curse, Garrett is captivated by shy Annelise, the sole woman whose touch eases the torment of his Fae curse. Awakened by his touch, Annelise resolves to save the highlander she loves from enemies who would destroy him for their own gain – no matter what the price. In The Frost Maiden’s Kiss, Malcolm returns home from his years abroad, wanting only to rebuild his family holding of Ravensmuir. Tormented by his choices, he sees little value in his life and trades it away, only to meet a pregnant serving woman who gives new purpose to his days and nights. Can Catriona save this wounded warrior from being the Fae’s mortal tithe to Hell – or will she lose the man who has claimed her heart? In The Warrior’s Prize, a bold maiden challenges a mercenary to change his life for the better, but when he takes her dare, Rafael both wins her love and puts himself in dire peril. Elizabeth fears her valiant warrior to be dead and surrenders herself to Fae captivity rather than live without him. Can Rafael save his beloved and seal the portal to the realm of the Fae forever? This digital bundle includes all four medieval Scottish romances in The True Love Brides series: The Renegade's Heart, The Highlander's Curse, The Frost Maiden's Kiss and The Warrior's Prize. * * * Claire has written numerous books featuring the Lammergeier family and set in her fictional medieval Scottish realm of Ravensmuir, Kinfairlie and Ravensmuir. She has grown accustomed to the persistent presence from the other side. It is not normal for Mack Tanner, the sexy new next-door neighbor, to hear her talking to her family ghost or to see hearts appear out of nowhere on a steamy bathroom mirror. As a retiring police officer, he is determined to help her with "her problem" while hiding secrets of his own. Mack's biggest challenge is trying to resist the rising electricity between them. He is not prone to commitments, and Sophie Granger believes there is no way a good-looking guy like Mack Tanner could fall for a girl like her. The ups and downs of this paranormal romance take their toll on the growing attraction Sophie and Mack feel. The "loving" interference of family, friends, and the resident ghost test the strength of their relationship and their own will. Is it just a shared love of good food and fast cars? Or will the couple hang together to find true love so the ghost can finally find her peace? Sometimes the best intentions can and do go awry.

Book excerpt: Olivia knew at an early age that life simply wasnt fair. Born to drug-addicted parents, Olivias main goal was to look out for her older brother, Kevin, find food wherever possible, and keep her parents associates away from her and her sibling. Not easy for a fourteen-year-old, but Olivia was nothing if not tenacious. When her parents left one day, never to return to their children, Olivia became the driving force between her and her brother. Now, years later, they still didnt have much, but Olivia gave everything she had to supporting and nurturing Kevin. Unfortunately, he had other ideas and the harder she tried to give them a better life, the harder he worked at bringing them down. His drive to find a quick fix and an easy buck led to a gambling addiction that was close to destroying them. Meanwhile, ex-soldier Devon was becoming more and more restless, and the flashbacks of his time in Afghanistan were coming back to haunt him. His saving grace was his job as a paramedic, which gave him something to do that he found fulfilling and kept his mind busy. Then one cold snowy night, on a run for the fire department, he rescued a woman who immediately disappeared, leaving him determined to track her down. Her bruises were proof that she needed someone to step in and help, and he was equally determined that he be that man. Shocked at what he learned when he finally found her, Devon becomes even more determined to find a way to make her life better. Her stubbornness at remaining independent and her refusal to accept his help drives him to distraction. When she comes up missing, though, he knows that he needs to find her. To lose her now would destroy him.
Book Synopsis Prisons, Punishment, and the Family by : Rachel Condry
Download or read book Prisons, Punishment, and the Family written by Rachel Condry and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-10-04 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year millions of families are affected by the imprisonment of a family member. Children of imprisoned parents alone can be counted in millions in the USA and in Europe. It is a bewildering fact that while we have had prisons for centuries, and the deprivation of liberty has been a central pillar in the Western mode of punishment since the early nineteenth century, we have only relatively recently embarked upon a serious discussion of the severe effects of imprisonment for the families and relatives of offenders and the implications this has for society. This book draws together some of the excellent research that addresses the impact of criminal justice and incarceration in particular upon the families of offenders. It assembles examples of recent and ongoing studies from eight different countries in order to not only learn about the secondary effects and 'collateral consequences' of imprisonment but also to understand what the experiences and lived realities of prisoners' families means for the sociology of punishment and our broader understanding of criminal justice systems. While punishment and society scholarship has gained significant ground in recent years it has often remained silent on the ways in which the families of prisoners are affected by our practices of punishment. This book provides evidence of the importance of including families within this scholarship and explores themes of legitimacy, citizenship, human rights, marginalization, exclusion, and inequality.

Book excerpt: Carrying All Before Her recovers the stories of six eighteenth-century celebrity actresses who performed during pregnancy, melding public and private, persona and person, domestic and professional labor and helping to shape wider social, medical, and political conversations about gender, sexuality, pregnancy, and motherhood. Their stories deepen our understanding of celebrity, repertory, and theatre's connection to a wider social world, and challenge notions of women's agency and power in and beyond the professional theatre.
