This sizzling collection features three gay romance short stories. Each entry is approximately 50 pages of heat; just the right length for an exciting bedtime story. BEAR HUNTING Ty is a cocky young fitness guru on the prowl on a balmy summer night. Ty is handsome, talented, and fearless, but he's about to meet his match. There's a mysterious new man in the bathhouse, known simply as Bear. Other guys have been sharing stories about him, saying he has "magic powers" that enable him to take his partners to pleasurable heights they've never experienced before. Ty is determined to hook up with Bear, but he will soon learn the beefy stranger with smoldering eyes is not that easy to win over. Ty will have to prove himself worthy and surrender to Bear's domination if he wants to take a ride to paradise. Is Ty up for the challenge? SENSORY DEPRIVATION Trevor is a gay college student with a daring secret wish. Ever since he saw an adult film about a man's twenty load weekend, he's been curious about having a similar experience with a group. Now he's finally worked up the courage to pursue it at the bathhouse. To add to the intensity, he's going to do it with his wrists bound behind his back, a blindfold wrapped around his head, and earbuds playing an EDM mix so he can't hear anything. Relying only on his sense of touch, taste, and smell, he'll be at the mercy of anything random strangers want to do to him. How much stimulation can Trevor endure before he reaches his limit? And what happens when you relinquish all control in the bathhouse? PROSTATE POUNDER Adam is a closeted gay college student who's about to experience a bathhouse for the first time. Adam has so many secret desires he's kept under lock and key. Tonight is the night he plans to let go of fear and set his heart free. Elsewhere in the city, there's a man who goes by the nickname Prostate Pounder. His talent is self-explanatory. His conquests are legendary. It's been said that he can make any man experience the greatest climax of their life completely hands-free. A case of mistaken identity is about to bring Adam and the Prostate Pounder crashing into each other's worlds. Then a tantalizing opportunity will present itself. What will happen when Adam breaks all the rules and does something truly ruthless?

Book excerpt: Nominated for a 34th annual Lambda Literary Award • A scintillating thriller with an emotional punch: “The tension builds to unbearably claustrophobic levels. To say more would rob readers of the 'no, he didn’t' suspense that makes Bath Haus an unexpectedly twisted, heart-pounding cat-versus-mouse thriller" (Los Angeles Times). Oliver Park, a recovering addict from Indiana, finally has everything he ever wanted: sobriety and a loving, wealthy partner in Nathan, a prominent DC trauma surgeon. Despite their difference in age and disparate backgrounds, they've made a perfect life together. With everything to lose, Oliver shouldn't be visiting Haus, a gay bathhouse. But through the entrance he goes, and it's a line crossed. Inside, he follows a man into a private room, and it's the final line. Whatever happens next, Nathan can never know. But then, everything goes wrong, terribly wrong, and Oliver barely escapes with his life. He races home in full-blown terror as the hand-shaped bruise grows dark on his neck. The truth will destroy Nathan and everything they have together, so Oliver does the thing he used to do so well: he lies. What follows is a classic runaway-train narrative, full of the exquisite escalations, edge-of-your-seat thrills, and oh-my-god twists. P. J. Vernon's Bath Haus is perfect for readers curious for their next must-read novel.

Leave your hang-ups and inhibitions at the door because this is a place where anything goes. This sizzling boxed set includes three delicious tales set in California during the summer of 1955: FOG CITY TEMPTATION San Francisco - A sexy and mysterious soldier explores forbidden fantasies with an adventurous young man at the bathhouse. It starts with a fist full of rope and a pulse-pounding game of role play, as the alpha male soldier Ricky demands complete and total submission from Charles. After their first steamy encounter, Charles finds himself feeling more than just physical attraction to the handsome Army hunk. But in the conservative post-World War II era of the 1950s, the world outside the bathhouse would never accept the love between two gay men, much less an interracial romance. Is there a way for Charles to find happiness with his military man or is their secret relationship doomed? HOLLYWOOD HEARTBREAK Los Angeles - A brooding closeted movie star is swept away in a tense love affair at the bathhouse. On a muggy August evening, the actor has a fling with a man named Rex. Their feelings quickly flourish into an obsessive and all-consuming mutual yearning. The deeper they fall for each other, the higher the stakes soar. This leading man's secret gay life could destroy his film career if he were exposed. But the heart wants what it wants, and soon the two lovers find themselves pushing the boundaries to be together in this hot and heavy romance with a devastating grande finale. DEEP RELEASE Sacramento - Summer is scorching in the capital city of California, and a high school graduate named Thomas is aching for relief. While browsing his favorite beefcake magazines, he finds a hand-written invitation to receive the unique services of Doctor Doyle at the bathhouse. The curious but desperate young man decides to investigate. Beyond the closed doors of the bathhouse, he discovers a secret paradise filled with sexy, muscular men who express themselves freely and strut around in posing straps, Thomas's favorite type of underwear. When he comes face-to-face with the bearish British doctor, the adventure intensifies. Using magic fingers and an expert touch, Doctor Doyle unlocks deep desires from inside Thomas. After a new awakening, Thomas hungers for more. How far will he go to break the fever? If you enjoy the iconic Physique Pictorial and Adonis beefcake magazines, or the films of Hollywood legend Rock Hudson, you'll love this vintage gay pulp fiction inspired anthology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER (The Globe and Mail) A moving memoir about growing up with a gay father in the 1980s, and a tribute to the power of truth, humour, acceptance and familial love. A true "It GOT Better" story. Alison Wearing led a largely carefree childhood until she learned, at the age of 12, that her family was a little more complex than she had realized. Sure her father had always been unusual compared to the other dads in the neighbourhood: he loved to bake croissants, wear silk pyjamas around the house, and skip down the street singing songs from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. But when he came out of the closet in the 1970s, when homosexuality was still a cardinal taboo, it was a shock to everyone in the quiet community of Peterborough, Ontario—especially to his wife and three children. Alison’s father was a professor of political science and amateur choral conductor, her mother was an accomplished pianist and marathon runner, and together they had fed the family a steady diet of arts, adventures, mishaps, normal frustrations and inexhaustible laughter. Yet despite these agreeable circumstances, Joe’s internal life was haunted by conflicting desires. As he began to explore and understand the truth about himself, he became determined to find a way to live both as a gay man and also a devoted father, something almost unheard of at the time. Through extraordinary excerpts from his own letters and journals from the years of his coming out, we read of Joe’s private struggle to make sense and beauty of his life, to take inspiration from an evolving society and become part of the vanguard of the gay revolution in Canada. Confessions of a Fairy’s Daughter is also the story of “coming out” as the daughter of a gay father. Already wrestling with an adolescent’s search for identity when her father came out of the closet, Alison promptly “went in,” concealing his sexual orientation from her friends and spinning extravagant stories about all of the “great straight things” they did together. Over time, Alison came to see that life with her father was surprisingly interesting and entertaining, even oddly inspiring, and in fact, there was nothing to hide. Balancing intimacy, history and downright hilarity, Confessions of a Fairy’s Daughter is a captivating tale of family life: deliciously imperfect, riotously challenging, and full of life’s great lessons in love. Alison brings her story to life with a skillfully light touch in this warm, heartfelt and revelatory memoir.

Book excerpt: From the 2013 Orange Prize–winning author of May We Be Forgiven. Only a work of such searing, meticulously controlled brilliance could provoke such a wide range of visceral responses. Here is the incredible story of an imprisoned pedophile who is drawn into an erotically charged correspondence with a nineteen-year-old suburban coed. As the two reveal—and revel in—their obsessive desires, Homes creates in The End of Alice a novel that is part romance, part horror story, at once unnerving and seductive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tom Rastrelli is a survivor of clergy-perpetrated sexual abuse who then became a priest in the early days of the Catholic Church’s ongoing scandals. Confessions of a Gay Priest divulges the clandestine inner workings of the seminary, providing an intimate and unapologetic look into the psychosexual and spiritual dynamics of celibacy and lays bare the “formation” system that perpetuates the cycle of abuse and cover-up that continues today. Under the guidance of a charismatic college campus minister, Rastrelli sought to reconcile his homosexuality and childhood sexual abuse. When he felt called to the priesthood, Rastrelli began the process of “priestly discernment.” Priests welcomed him into a confusing clerical culture where public displays of piety, celibacy, and homophobia masked a closeted underworld in which elder priests preyed upon young recruits. From there he ventured deeper into the seminary system seeking healing, hoping to help others, and striving not to live a double life. Trained to treat sexuality like an addiction, he and his brother seminarians lived in a world of cliques, competition, self-loathing, alcohol, hidden crushes, and closeted sex. Ultimately, the “formation” intended to make Rastrelli a compliant priest helped to liberate him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Confessions of Saint Augustine is considered one of the greatest Christian classics of all time. It is an extended poetic, passionate, intimate prayer that Augustine wrote as an autobiography sometime after his conversion, to confess his sins and proclaim God's goodness. Just as his first hearers were captivated by his powerful conversion story, so also have many millions been over the following sixteen centuries. His experience of God speaks to us across time with little need of transpositions. This acclaimed new translation by Sister Maria Boulding, O.S.B., masterfully captures his experience, and is written in an elegant and flowing style. Her beautiful contemporary translation of the ancient Confessions makes the classic work more accessible to modern readers. Her translation combines the linguistic accuracy demanded by 4th-century Latin with the poetic power aimed at by Augustine, not as discernable in previous translations.

Book excerpt: Hot flings at a seedy truck stop. Homemade glory holes in the stall walls of a dorm shower. Fun and fornication at an infamous park. Steamy bathhouse trysts and other tales of public eroticism is what Cruising is all about. As Shane Allison says, "This is the anthology I have dreamed of doing for years. There’s nothing that gets the adrenaline flowing and the muscle throbbing like public sex." Filled with hot plots and even hotter characters, Cruising doesn't shy away from new erotic territory and includes several true confessions including those of the editor himself. As with all of Allison's sexy compilations, creativity and diversity of story lines are key along with the fun factor that is the hallmark if Allison's anthologies. "One Hot Baby" by Daniel Curzonperson is a wryly sweet short about an aging straight guy who stops to pee in a park and gets an unexpected blow job, which lifts his spirits. A fierce black queen enjoys some of "New York’s Phynest" in an "arresting" erotic encounter with a hot Domincan cop in Donald Peebles Jr.'s surprise-filled story while the narrator of Rob Rosen's "Small Town Blues" gets horny in the sticks, hits on a young Indian immigrant clerk in the jiffy mart and discovers that the hicks are up for group action anytime and anywhere. Cruising moves at the highest speed and is filled with kink, sex toys, exotic locations, wild scenarios and plenty of sexual intensity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious book investigates a major yet underexplored nexus of themes in Roman cultural history: the evolving tropes of enclosure, retreat and compressed space within an expanding, potentially borderless empire. In Roman writers' exploration of real and symbolic enclosures - caves, corners, villas, bathhouses, the 'prison' of the human body itself - we see the aesthetic, philosophical and political intersecting in fascinating ways, as the machine of empire is recast in tighter and tighter shapes. Victoria Rimell brings ideas and methods from literary theory, cultural studies and philosophy to bear on an extraordinary range of ancient texts rarely studied in juxtaposition, from Horace's Odes, Virgil's Aeneid and Ovid's Ibis, to Seneca's Letters, Statius' Achilleid and Tacitus' Annals. A series of epilogues puts these texts in conceptual dialogue with our own contemporary art world, and emphasizes the role Rome's imagination has played in the history of Western thinking about space, security and dwelling.
