Download or read book HIV/AIDS in the Workplace written by National Institute of Standards and Technology and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NPIN 19621: This instructor's manual was designed for an HIV/AIDS in the workplace education program. The pages are divided in two, with the right side being the "script" for the instructor, while the left side has suggestions and comments on small group activities, questions to prompt group discussions, and other hints. The first section of the manual includes instructor introduction, an overview of the objectives to be covered in the program, and a self-test to measure what the participants currently know about HIV/AIDS. The second section addresses organizational policies. If the organization receiving the training has a documented HIV/AIDS policy, the manual suggests that a representative of the organization present the policy. If no documented policy is in effect at the organization, the basics of an HIV/AIDS workplace policy are outlined, including reasonable accommodations, confidentiality and privacy issues, and discrimination. The third section presents an overview of AIDS 101-type information, including statistics of the epidemic, the virus itself, medical progression of the disease, HIV transmission, prevention, and antibody testing. The fourth section consists of workplace issues for co-workers, such as benefits of the employment of an HIV-positive person, confidentiality and disclosure issues, and reasonable accommodations. The Americans with Disabilities Act and other Federal legislation is covered in the fifth section, while the final section discusses workplace exposure and universal precautions. Overheads for the training program comprise the appendices.

Book Synopsis Humanizing Pedagogy Through HIV and AIDS Prevention by : American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education
Download or read book Humanizing Pedagogy Through HIV and AIDS Prevention written by American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-03 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the power of educators to serve as HIV and AIDS prevention agents. The definitive text represents the work of a distinguished panel of teacher educators and health scientists who identify core information and skills effective educators of HIV and AIDS prevention should learn as they are prepared to attend to the academic and human needs of students. It assigns to teachers, in the US and abroad, the novel role of prevention agents, given their extraordinary ability to access and affect young people -- to influence their behavior. Humanizing Pedagogy considers the social, economic, racial, gender and other variables that impact the prevention of HIV and AIDS. The authors collectively assert that the process of preventing HIV and AIDS, when it considers historic and social context, can compel educators to serve not only as practitioners of knowledge, but as community agents of health and well being. Attending to HIV and AIDS issues advances the capacity and ability of educators to see and attend to the complete learner. Humanizing Pedagogy is a single volume resource for educators, in the US and abroad, interested in attending to the whole needs of the learner-and saving lives.
