Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here in one place are all the significant documentary sources of international law. Arranged according to the categories in which international law has developed, the instruments are drawn from the declarations, resolutions, statutes & conventions of organizations both global & regional, as well as from multilateral treaties. The categorical divisions & subdivisions make it easy for a student, lawyer or paralegal to find all the international law instruments that might affect a particular case or problem. Within subdivisions, documents are ordered geographically & chronologically, & dependent instruments appear together with their parent instruments. International Law & World Order is the only collection of its kind available anywhere. Easy to use & wide ranging, its looseleaf format & regular supplementation make it easy to update. The set is particularly valuable--and economical--for law libraries, as providing access to the important materials it contains by other means would involve the purchase of dozens, perhaps hundreds, of hard-to-find, expensive volumes, & then remaining alert for updating. International Law & World Order & its automatic regular supplementation provide everything necessary to research international law documentary sources, including new & newly amended instruments.

Book excerpt: The majority of material is organized around the conceptually divisible components of our otherwise indivisible world order: "war/peace," "human rights/social justice," "economic trade/development," and "earth/space environment." The remainder, the "constitutive/organic" and the "miscellaneous," reflect the truism that no typology, no matter how well conceived, can ever fully comprehend the diversity of human affairs.

This book was released on 2009-10-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the significant documentary sources of international law are arranged according to the categories in which international law has developed in this comprehensive, nine-volume set.The instruments are drawn from the declarations, resolutions, statutes and conventions of organizations both global and regional, as well as from multilateral treaties. The five broad categories include: Constitutive/Organic (Volume 1) War/Peace (Volumes 2 & 2A) Human Rights/Social Justice (Volumes 3 & 3A) Trade/Development (Volumes 4 & 4A) Earth-Space Environment (Volumes 5 & 5A) The categorical divisions and subdivisions make it easy for a student, lawyer or paralegal to find all the international law instruments that might affect a particular case or problem. Within subdivisions, documents are ordered geographically and chronologically, and dependent instruments appear together with their parent instruments. Easy to use and wide ranging in scope, the looseleaf format and regular supplementation make "International Law and World" order particularly valuable-and economical for law libraries, since updates include new documents and instruments as well as revision and update of existing material. This volume describes the procedures governing the transfer of sentenced foreign nationals from the United States to serve the remainder of their sentences in their native countries, and of United States nationals sentenced in foreign countries to serve the remainder of their sentences in the United States. It discusses the statutory and treaty framework regulating the transfer of sentenced persons to and from the United States, as well as the case law interpreting those statutes and treaties. Appendices contain United States statutes and regulations, U.S. Department of Justice Manual materials, and all treaties governing the transfer of prisoners to and from the United States. Launched in 1994, and supplemented on a regular basis, this looseleaf collection has been updated to September 2009.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As our society becomes more global, international law is taking on an increasingly significant role, not only in world politics but also in the affairs of a striking array of individuals, enterprises, and institutions. In this comprehensive study, David J. Bederman focuses on international law as a current, practical means of regulating and influencing international behavior. He shows it to be a system unique in its nature--nonterritorial but secular, cosmopolitan, and traditional. Part intellectual history and part contemporary review, The Spirit of International Law ranges across the series of cyclical processes and dialectics in international law over the past five centuries to assess its current prospects as a viable legal system. After addressing philosophical concerns about authority and obligation in international law, Bederman considers the sources and methods of international lawmaking. Topics include key legal actors in the international system, the permissible scope of international legal regulation (what Bederman calls the "subjects and objects" of the discipline), the primitive character of international law and its ability to remain coherent, and the essential values of international legal order (and possible tensions among those values). Bederman then measures the extent to which the rules of international law are formal or pragmatic, conservative or progressive, and ignored or enforced. Finally, he reflects on whether cynicism or enthusiasm is the proper attitude to govern our thoughts on international law. Throughout his study, Bederman highlights some of the canonical documents of international law: those arising from famous cases (decisions by both international and domestic tribunals), significant treaties, important diplomatic correspondence, and serious international incidents. Distilling the essence of international law, this volume is a lively, broad, thematic summation of its structure, characteristics, and main features.
