Book Synopsis Banksy. Myths and Legends Volume 3 by : MARC. LEVERTON
Download or read book Banksy. Myths and Legends Volume 3 written by MARC. LEVERTON and published by Carpet Bombing Culture. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No single living artist has created as many myths, rumours and legends as Banksy. In 2011, Bristol based writer Marc Leverton published a collection of the best of these stories together. Since then, the Banksy juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down and has continued to bring us sharp satire, unintentional furores, blatant profiteering, plus many more myths and legends. That is before we even get to looking at the art. For many, the theatre that surrounds Banksy's work is just as fascinating as the artwork itself and it is this unique position that makes Banksy the 21st century's most important living artist. This new edition (Vol 3.) covers the years 2015-2023. During this period Banksy has adapted his approach to attempt to be one step ahead of the profiteers who attack, or cut out his popular street work. There are still street pieces, often designed to be temporary or hard to access (boats, bridges even a hospital). The artist has also created events (Dismaland, the Sotheby's shredding incident), shops (Gross Domestic Product shop) and tours (Staycation). He has also taken his work into conflict zones (Ukraine, Syria and Calais 'Jungle'. Social media plays a part in creating a heightened reaction to his work from Banksy fans. They rush to the work, often trying to protect it, and often failing, but having a ball in the process. The book also celebrates the japes of Banksy fans who, for 15 minutes, can get to experience the thrill of street art. The writer collects the stories from contacts and friends in Bristol and Banksy fans worldwide. The small black book format is an homage to Banksy's own first books which are now out of print. All volumes reproduce high quality images of Banksy's street work and other items of interest to Banksy fans.
Book Synopsis Banksy Myths and Legends by : Marc Leverton
Download or read book Banksy Myths and Legends written by Marc Leverton and published by Gingko Press Editions. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No single living artist has created as many myths, rumours and legends as Banksy. Many of the tales in this book are from Bristol, some are from further afield. What they share is that they are all told with the wide eyed wonder which Banksy inspires. Collated between 2009 and 2011 some of these stories are quite old and have been told so many times they have become the stuff of legend, others are more questionable and best described as myths. Some are laugh out loud bollocks and others are simply gossip. You be the judge.
Download or read book Banksy written by Will Ellsworth-Jones and published by Aurum. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For someone who shuns the limelight so completely that he conceals his name, never shows his face and gives interviews only by email, Banksy is remarkably famous. From his beginnings as a Bristol graffiti artist, his artwork is now sold at auction for six-figure sums and hangs on celebrities’ walls. The appearance of a new Banksy is national news, his documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop was Oscar-nominated and people queue for hours to see his latest exhibition. Now more National Treasure than edgy outsider, who is Banksy and how did he become what he is today? In the first attempt to tell the full story of Banksy’s life and career, Will Ellsworth-Jones pieces together a picture of his world and unpicks its contradictions. Whether art or vandalism, anti-establishment or sell-out, Banksy and his work have become a cultural phenomenon and the question ‘Who is Banksy?’ is as much about his career as it is ‘the man behind the wall’. 'Britain's unlikeliest national treasure' Independent ‘A fascinating portrait that elicits admiration for a man who, despite his increasingly unconvincing efforts to retain some shred of his vandal status, has had an undeniable impact on art’ The Times
Book Synopsis Zen Art for Meditation by : Stewart W. Holmes
Download or read book Zen Art for Meditation written by Stewart W. Holmes and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about emptiness and silence—the mind-expanding emptiness of Zen painting, and the reverberating silence of haiku poetry. Through imaginative participation in the visions of painters and poets, its readers are led to the realization that, in the author's words, "emptiness, silence, is not nothingness, but fullness. Your fullness." This cultural tradition has informed many distinguished lives and works of art. The work of painters like Niten, Liang K'ai, and Toba, and of painters like Basho, Buson, and Issa reflects the wholeness, spontaneity, and humanity of the Zen vision. Those who desire a glimpse into the world of intuitive contact with nature offered by Zen meditation will find these paintings, commentaries, and haiku poems especially rewarding. They enable the reader to experience the unique power of Zen art—it's capacity to fuse esthetic appreciation, personal intuition, and knowledge of life into one creative event.

Book Synopsis Paul Gauguin by : George T. M. Shackelford
Download or read book Paul Gauguin written by George T. M. Shackelford and published by MFA Publications. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each volume in the MFA Spotlight series illuminates a significant work in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, offering a brief and engaging introduction to its creation and history.0The life of Paul Gauguin is one of the richest and most mythic in the history of Western art. Abandoning a career in banking, a family, and his homeland, in the last decade of the nineteenth century he sailed from France to the South Seas to seek a life ‘in ecstasy, in peace, and for art’. During his years in Tahiti, although beset by sometimes appalling poverty, illness, and despair, Gauguin brought forth a wealth of astonishing and deeply felt paintings, culminating in this monumental meditation on what he called the ‘ever-present riddle’ of human existence posed in the work’s title. This compact introduction to Gauguin’s masterpiece explores its relation to European models as well as to the artist’s own companion pieces, emphasizing not only that the painting responded to current French art but also that its creator always intended it to find its ultimate audience in Paris. It also provides an enlightening entry into the work’s formal composition and complex symbolism, drawing on Gauguin’s writings to help explore the philosophical and personal struggles that led to the creation of this endlessly mysterious, profoundly beautiful work.
