Book excerpt: "Why Me" is a true story of a little girl given up for adoption. Children don't have control of their destiny, in most cases an adoption is a loving and joyful one. Hers would be just the opposite. Her fate was set in motion from the day she was born. "Why Me" captures her emotions from beginning to end. She was very brave and courageous. Can you handle what you are about to read? Would you have made the same choices she did? Will you judge her for not making logical ones? It is your decision. I believe in the story of her life you will see yourself somewhere. Visiting memories from our past may be disturbing. As adults we deal with pain in such a private and personal way that others cannot comprehend it. I know all too well, that is why I wrote my story for you to read. Sit back and get ready to experience a world through her eyes in a way no one else could, then you will understand why she ask the question. "Why Me"?

No one else would think to engage a professional symphony orchestra tuba player to find out whether bull gators will thunderously bellow back at a low B-flat during mating season (they do, but only to that pitch). From fishing camps and country stores to museums and libraries, Klinkenberg is forever unearthing the magic that makes Florida a place worth celebrating.

Book excerpt: Wendys life has been anything but typical. Her father raped her on her sixth birthday, and yet she still lives in the same apartment in Manhattan with him, although hes become such an emotionless figure that shes hardly forced to communicate with him anyway. In fact, shes hardly as concerned with him as her mother, Stella. Dense, materialistic, and needy, Stella is more interested in living vicariously through her daughter than actually raising her. And Wendy knows it. After a particularly icy argument on her seventeenth birthday, Wendy bolts. Shes not coming back. The Golden Handle follows Wendy along through a week of sheer hell as she tries to find a sense of genuine happiness that shes lacked for eleven years, and Stellas desperate attempt to reconnect with her only daughter. But after a week laden with racism, murder, an apartment fire, kidnapping, and prostitution, will Wendy really be able to say it was worth it? Will Stella find a way to cope with her own rotten childhood and give her daughter the love she deserves? Does she even deserve a second chance?

Book excerpt: This collection includes all the books that capture the magic of Neverland and show the relentless spirit of a boy didn't want to grow up: The Little White Bird introduces the character of Peter Pan, a free spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up. Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens – Peter is a seven-day-old infant who, "like all infants", used to be part bird. Peter has complete faith in his flying abilities, and he manages to escape out of the window of his London home and return to Kensington Gardens. Upon returning to the Gardens, Peter is shocked to learn from the crow Solomon Caw that he is not still a bird, but more like a human. Peter and Wendy – Peter Pan is the leader of the Lost Boys on the island of Neverland that is inhabited by mermaids, fairies, Native Americans and pirates. He takes Wendy Darling and her two brothers to their magic world and they have many adventures with Peter, his fairy Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, and the pirate Captain Hook. Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up is a fairy play about a mischievous yet innocent little boy who can fly, and has many adventures on the island of Neverland with Wendy Darling and her two brothers. When Wendy Grew Up – Peter returns for Wendy years later. But she is now grown up with a daughter of her own named Jane. When Peter learns that Wendy has "betrayed" him by growing up, he is heartbroken until Jane agrees to come to Neverland as Peter's new mother. The Story of Peter Pan is a retelling of the Peter Pan story by Daniel O'Connor. The Peter Pan Alphabet by Oliver Herford contains Peter Pan themed rhymes for each letter of the alphabet.

Book excerpt: Five women, all of them mothers, meet regularly for tea and cake. Their lives are consumed by children, school drop-offs, and casual conversations; so their respite at the Vista Cafe is a welcome retreat. Until the day that Evelyn's baby disappears. Suffering severe postpartum depression, Evelyn is now in a psychiatric hospital refusing to utter a word - not even any information regarding the whereabouts of her newborn daughter, Amy - leaving her remaining four friends at a loss. In her absence, they begin to piece together Evelyns life, as a mother and as a woman, and start to take a look at their own lives. What ensues is each womans uncovering of her own lapsed desires - those dreams and wants that were slowly sidelined or put off for a later date as husband, marriage, and child-rearing became full-time occupations. Joanna confronts her halfhearted efforts to lose the baby weight from her second child, Sam, who is now three years old. Clare's lifestyle is as unkempt as her hair, a fact that usually has her buying the newest day planner but now makes her question her early beginnings as an artist. Susan is the stereotypical supermom who is never late to pick up her kids, yet she cannot seem to take the same charge when it comes to her own life. And Wendy, though the quietest among them, perhaps has the biggest secrets. In a darkly humorous manner, guilty secrets and lives are entwined as the suspense builds during the desperate search for Evelyn's missing daughter.
