Book Synopsis An Alligator in the Bathroom... and Other Stories by : Carter Langdale
Download or read book An Alligator in the Bathroom... and Other Stories written by Carter Langdale and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2016 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back in the day, Langdale's job could be summed up easily: solve every problem that has anything to do with animals. He had an official RSPCA brass plague outside his Yorkshire home. He was a local figure. Off duty? There was no such thing. People would knock on the door and present the Langdales with a litter of kittens, an injured owl, any kind of stray - foxes, badgers, young otters, hedgehogs. Some folk were genuinely concerned, some overconcerned, some saw a convenient way to rid themselves of an inconvenient animal. He never knew what might happen next. Some stories will make you laugh, and some will make you weep. But they are all told with great humour and sympathy. For any animal lover, this book is a feast.

Book Synopsis Working Terriers, Badgers and Badger Digging (History of Hunting Series) by : H. H. King
Download or read book Working Terriers, Badgers and Badger Digging (History of Hunting Series) written by H. H. King and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 1931 and is now an extremely rare and sought after item in its first edition. It is now available again to all true terrier men in a revised edition published by Read Country Books. This new edition incorporates the original format plus 20 extra pages containing articles and vintage photos on the same subject. Its 130 pages of historical content contain much detailed information on the working terrier and its use in what was once an acceptable and legal field sport. The first section of the book is devoted to the Working Terrier. The author discusses the qualities and physical attributes that constitute a first class worker. He writes sensibly and with a confidence born from years of practical experience. This section then leads into a chapter of advice on the early training of terriers with much emphasis on the natural progression of their learning curve. This training period also entails the hunting of, and entering to, the rat, fox, and otter. A short chapter deals with the natural history and habits of the badger, then continues at some length with the methods and equipment used in the actual dig. The author points out that the terms "badger-digging" and "badger-baiting" should not be considered synonymous. In his opinion, "If properly conducted, badger-digging is no more cruel a sport than shooting or ratting" The final chapter is a comprehensive discourse on the care and handling of the Working Terrier. Following that are two rare articles, never before reprinted - "HUNTING BROCK THE BADGER" by J.C. Bristow-Noble (author of Working Terriers) and "THE BADGERS OF BADGWORTHY". They both contain much interesting information and many original, vintage photographs. The book is a fascinating look back at a vanished time and an excellent manual on the working terrier, with much information that is still of practical use today.

Book Synopsis The Badgers of Wytham Woods by : David Macdonald
Download or read book The Badgers of Wytham Woods written by David Macdonald and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-09-07 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The badgers of Wytham Woods (Oxford, UK) have been studied continuously and intensively by David Macdonald for almost 50 years (25 of them with his former student and co-author Chris Newman), generating a wealth of data pertaining to every facet of their ecology and evolution. Through a mix ofaccessible, highly readable prose and cutting-edge science, the authors weave a riveting scientific story of the lives of these intriguing creatures, highlighting the insights offered to science more broadly through badgers as a model system. They provide a paradigm - from population down tomolecule - for a deeper understanding of mammalian behaviour, ecology, epidemiology, evolutionary biology, and conservation. The real value of this long-term study is particularly apparent with current and globally relevant challenges such as climate change, disease epidemics, and senescence. Thisunique dataset enables us to examine these issues in a context that only a half-century experiment can reveal. The Badgers of Wytham Woods will appeal to a broad audience of professional academics (especially carnivore and mammalian biologists), researchers and students at all levels, governmental and non-governmental wildlife bodies, and to the natural historian fascinated by wild animals and the remarkableprocesses of nature they exemplify.
Book Synopsis Vermin, Victims and Disease by : Angela Cassidy
Download or read book Vermin, Victims and Disease written by Angela Cassidy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides the first critical history of the controversy over whether to cull wild badgers to control the spread of bovine tuberculosis (bTB) in British cattle. This question has plagued several professional generations of politicians, policymakers, experts and campaigners since the early 1970s. Questions of what is known, who knows, who cares, who to trust and what to do about this complex problem have been the source of scientific, policy, and increasingly vociferous public debate ever since. This book integrates contemporary history, science and technology studies, human-animal relations, and policy research to conduct a cross-cutting analysis. It explores the worldviews of those involved with animal health, disease ecology and badger protection between the 1970s and 1990s, before reintegrating them to investigate the recent public polarisation of the controversy. Finally it asks how we might move beyond the current impasse.

Book Synopsis Living with an Angel 'can be hell' by : Dr. Phil Etherson
Download or read book Living with an Angel 'can be hell' written by Dr. Phil Etherson and published by Angel Blessings. This book was released on 2018-04-06 with total page 303 pages. On the other hand the authors wife is a qualified Angel Therapist and therefore looks to ethereal explanations for events. As such this book describes conflicts of opinion and how they can be resolved during life's journey. This book therefore takes a different look at angels amd spirituality from the standard tomes on angels and considers them from a neutral point of view with comment, information and humour along the way. This allows for an objective reflection which illustrates how angels (and perhaps wives) can influence the life of an individual, including those who do not believe in them (angels, not wives), perhaps whether they wish them to or not!
