Book excerpt: Jael is just an average teenage girl with over-protective parents, an unrequited crush on the hottest guy in school, and a best friend she shares everything with. Until her parents let her in on the secret they've kept for nearly sixteen years... Jael is the Chosen One.Born to be a vampire slayer, her destiny was written in the Book of the Shunned. She's been chosen by God to set the Minnesota Loon Lake Amish community free from the grip of the Bishop, an ancient and powerful vampire who has been using the Amish people for his own personal Jamba Juice. Will she willingly leave her friends and all she knows to follow her destiny to Minnesota or will the Bishop bring destiny down on her in Sunburn, Nevada? With Amish made stakes at hand, Jael is a vampire's worst nightmare and ready to kick some serious bloodsucker butt. Her parents, forced to leave their plain and simple life to escape the clutches of the Bishop have trained their daughter to continue the fight begun thousands of years earlier by another slayer.Soon Jael is turning sweet sixteen, and all heck will break loose. What readers are saying: "Author Barbara Ellen Brink simply created the freshest, coolest, most fun bend on the YA vampire tale I've read in years. With obvious homage to the original "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer," this riveting, action-packed, vamp-rocking romp is a unique breath of fresh air unlike any of the myriad copy-cat vampire series currently populating the YA section of your average Barnes and Noble--and so much more..." ~~ "I don't normally like vampire books. But this isn't about vampires--it's about a vampire slayer. Not only that, it's captivating, exciting, and well-written!" ~~ "The author writes a compelling action, adventure yarn with an improbable premise: Amish vampires and the Chosen, an Amish girl destined to fight these extraordinary nightmares." ~~ "This book didn't disappoint. It had a strong, tough heroine who struggled between her calling and the desire to just be a normal girl, it had butt-kicking action scenes, and it had the kind of quotable lines we got when Buffy was at her snarky best. It had a thread of wry humor that ran throughout the book and nicely balanced out the drama and suspense that kept me reading late into the night."
Book Synopsis A City of Bloodsuckers by : O.O. Kandison
Download or read book A City of Bloodsuckers written by O.O. Kandison and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 888 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel is a work of fiction, and the characters are all fictional—that is, they come out of my imagination. But if they bear any resemblance to specific judges, lawyers, and cops, it is not a matter of coincidence. It is because I chose to use such names for them to get mad, the same way I am mad about the injustice done to me by three judges for a crime I cried and swore I did not commit. I was charged and found guilty even though I was the one who was assaulted and battered—an assault and battery that has now partially left me deaf and, above all, has left me with only one testicle, while the judges and the attorneys have played their games right. I also created this fictional event of the court. I have used names that came out of my imagination to represent all the players in this book, and I put them in chapters where they are meant to serve my purpose the same way three notorious judges all served their purpose against me. But I should make it clear, though, that the names of the noncourtroom players whom I have used here are products of my imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. Therefore, the actions and motivations of these players are entirely my idea. Again, simply put, there is no connection in the manner I brought them into the book. If I have caused embarrassment to anyone other than some judges I have directed my anger to or the attorneys, the security men of Circus Circus Hotel & Casino, and the cops, in any manner, I wish, here and now, to apologize openly and sincerely. And bear in mind that without the humanities—with the novelists, playwrights, poets, and actors of our world, let alone the comedians to express the First Amendment or mock those who wrong us or who rule the world—we would not have movies or theaters. Therefore, all the movies we might think we have would be worth nothing. Ogbebor K. Ogbesia November 8, 2001

"Dark, witty, subversive… It’s like “Twilight” with balls and a brain… Reminiscent of the early work of Poppy Z Brite… Makes me want to become an Emo vampire! Sure to appeal to the nonconformist bohemian in all of us." —Shane McFlicker, LGBT Blogger "The story takes you on somewhat of an emotional roller coaster…The author is imaginative, and that’s good at a time when books can be carbon copies of each other. I love the fact that this story deviates from the norm...Whether you love it or hate it though, it is a book that will spark emotion and opinion!" —Teresa D, VampireRomanceBooks.com "...I got offended and it takes a lot to offend me...I cannot get some of these images out of my head and they make me want to curl up in my bed and WEEP." —Char, shadowsireview.blogspot.co.uk

Yannick is foreign, enigmatic, and terribly ill, and Brandon is immediately drawn to him. The two men have an instant, irresistible attraction, but Yannick is committed to a man he no longer loves, but insists he can't leave. What Brandon has no way of knowing is Yannick's a vampire. And Lee, who once hunted vampires but chose to save him, is surely the only person who would ever accept what Yannick is. Yannick can't leave Lee, because the world outside isn't safe for his kind, especially now that human blood mysteriously no longer sustains him. Yannick is also restrained by his fear of making Lee angry, since Lee is dangerously possessive, and Yannick too weak to resist his punishment. Yannick knows he can't risk seeing Brandon again, just like Brandon knows he shouldn't come between Yannick and Lee. But they've already fallen too far and too deep to be capable of letting go. Unfortunately, it isn’t just this reckless attraction they have in common. Brandon's ex Chad is just as possessive as Lee, and just as dangerous. And on one violent Texas night, Yannick and Brandon will be forced to save each other, or die before they can have any kind of relationship. Even if it means Brandon discovers Yannick's secret.
