Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lieutenant Commander Reef Klima commands a SEAL team. The Joint Special Operations Command orders it to rescue a US Marine, the Duke of Edinburgh, and others from an al-Qaeda cell that has taken them to a lakeside house in Syria. Senior Chief Emma Bartram, the team sniper, and Major Magnus McKellar, Special Boat Service, are involved in the rescue. During it, the leader of the cell hits Klima on the head. The blow causes a traumatic brain injury, and Klima becomes an 'acquired savant;' he develops prodigious mathematical and other abilities. The Navy places him on medical-hold, assigns him to the Joint Interagency Task Force in Key West. He also becomes an advisor to the Army Special Forces Underwater Operations School. While recovering from TBI and working as a JIATF weather forecaster, Klima uses his Ph.D. in applied mathematics to help NOAA with climate models. He is also learning to cope with an explosive temper. The Navy promotes Bartram to ensign and assigns her to JIATF. The man who caused Klima's TBI leads a cell to Key West and they attack SFUWO. Klima and Green Berets fight them and take one prisoner. The prisoner claims the cell bought a nuclear weapon in Cuba that it's in the keys: left in Cuba during the Missile Crisis. JIAF helps the Department of Energy search for the nuke. Bartram confronts a suicide bomber driving a boat intending to kill spectators watching a superpower boat race. The leader of the cell flees Key West in a stolen Cessna and Reef and other operators follow him to Cuba.

Book Synopsis Sleeping with Lumbago by : Sam Culotta
Download or read book Sleeping with Lumbago written by Sam Culotta and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-09-26 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning seven decades from his 1940s childhood in Rochester, New York, to his retirement in Southern California,Sleeping with Lumbago documents the events and experiences of author Sam R. Culottas life. He recalls his Catholic school days, his familys migration west, his teens, his military service, and, most notably, the dynamics of his Sicilian-American family. With his signature sardonic wit and good-natured criticism, he takes on nuns, schoolmates, friends, and neighbors as well as more than a few professions, religious institutions, social conventions and, of course, himself. In the story And Then There Were Two, Culotta discusses the unusual and embarrassing discovery made during a physical exam at his Catholic elementary school when he was in sixth grade. Caution: Friends May Be Dangerous to Your Health describes a narrow escape from injury, accident, and mayhem when his buddy Don pulls a dangerous stunt in his 1949 Mercury. Sleeping with Lumbago presents a collection of humorous personal essays that document the unexceptional life of an unexceptional man with an exceptional amount of wit and discontent.

Book Synopsis Sweet Dream Baby by : Sterling Watson
Download or read book Sweet Dream Baby written by Sterling Watson and published by Sourcebooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2004-02-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sent to live in the humidity of rural Florida with his grandparents and his sixteen-year-old Aunt Delia for the summer, twelve-year-old Travis becomes absorbed in the closed ways of small-town life. Captivated by Delia, Travis watches her attempt to find a place for herself in the socially stunted, gossip-driven town. Delia's secrets go beyond what Travis can understand, but he believes that he alone can save her--a belief that not only forces him to grow up fast, but one that builds to a dangerous and disturbing climax. In trying to free Delia from her past, Travis leads her into a shocking present and a most uncertain future. In a work at once honest, chilling and compulsively addictive, author Sterling Watson has created a time and place where rock 'n' roll hums from AM radios, steam rises from a secluded riverbed and violent summer storms threaten the peace of silent nights. Watson's characters are brought vividly to life through Travis's touching, powerful and intensely personal voice. A dark and evocative coming of age tale, Sweet Dream Baby begins steeped in innocence and ends in a dramatically different place. "I can't remember a book that sneaked up and grabbed me the way Sweet Dream Baby did. It's a real shocker by a very good writer."—Elmore Leonard "Sterling Watson's Sweet Dream Baby is one of the finest novels I've read in years, an incandescent blend of gothic noir, Faulknerian dreamscape and bittersweet coming-of-age story. I was utterly absorbed in these fierce pages."—Fred Chappell, author of Look Back All the Green Valley "Sweet Dream Baby is a beautiful book. Sterling Watson is surehanded and telling in a story that is as elegiac as it is gripping."—Michael Connelly, author of Chasing the Dime "Some delicious page-turning."—Kirkus Reviews A Book Sense 76 Top 10 Selection Named to Top Ten Crime Books of 2002, Toronto Globe and Mail "Watson proves himself a first-rate storyteller."—Publishers Weekly "A comprehensive work of art that is as thought-provoking as it is disturbing."—Orlando Sentinel
