Book Synopsis Handbook of Contact Mechanics by : Valentin L. Popov
Download or read book Handbook of Contact Mechanics written by Valentin L. Popov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-26 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book contains a structured collection of the complete solutions of all essential axisymmetric contact problems. Based on a systematic distinction regarding the type of contact, the regime of friction and the contact geometry, a multitude of technically relevant contact problems from mechanical engineering, the automotive industry and medical engineering are discussed. In addition to contact problems between isotropic elastic and viscoelastic media, contact problems between transversal-isotropic elastic materials and functionally graded materials are addressed, too. The optimization of the latter is a focus of current research especially in the fields of actuator technology and biomechanics. The book takes into account adhesive effects which allow access to contact-mechanical questions about micro- and nano-electromechanical systems. Solutions of the contact problems include both the relationships between the macroscopic force, displacement and contact length, as well as the stress and displacement fields at the surface and, if appropriate, within the half-space medium. Solutions are always obtained with the simplest available method - usually with the method of dimensionality reduction (MDR) or approaches which use the solution of the non-adhesive normal contact problem to solve the respective contact problem.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Contact Mechanics by : Valentin L. Popov
Download or read book Handbook of Contact Mechanics written by Valentin L. Popov and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book contains a structured collection of complete solutions of all significant axially symmetric contact problems. It provides solutions for classical profiles such as the sphere, cone or flat cylindrical punch as well as a multitude of other technically relevant shapes, e.g. the truncated cone, the worn sphere, rough profiles, hollow cylinders, etc. Normal, tangential and torsional contacts with and without adhesion are examined. Elastically isotropic, transversally isotropic, viscoelastic and functionally graded media are addressed. The solutions of the contact problems cover the relationships between the macroscopic quantities of force and displacement, the contact configuration as well as the stress and displacement fields at the surface and in some cases within the half-space medium. The solutions are obtained by the simplest available method - usually involving the method of dimensionality reduction or approaches of reduction to the non-adhesive normal contact problem. Book Synopsis Some Axisymmetric Problems for Layered Elastic Media by : American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Winter Annual Meeting
Download or read book Some Axisymmetric Problems for Layered Elastic Media written by American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Winter Annual Meeting and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Part I, the multiple contact region solutions for an axisymmetric indenter were presented. The solution technique utilized integral transforms and singular integral equations. The emphasis there was the study of the conditions of contact as a function of the physical parameters of the indenter and the layered elastic half space. The method and results were similar to those for the analogous plane-strain problem that was studied in Shield and Bogy (1989). However, several differences in detail were required for the analysis of the axisymmetric geometry. In this Part II, the solution of Part I is used to study some related problems that have been considered previously in the literature for homogeneous half spaces. First we solve the problem of the axisymmetric annular indenter for the layered half space. Multiple contact region solutions are studied and the problem of an axisymmetric punch with internal pressure is solved for the layered half space and also for the special case of a layer with a traction-free lower surface. Finally, the problem of an annular crack in a homogeneous or layered structure is solved.
Book Synopsis Theories and Analyses of Beams and Axisymmetric Circular Plates by : J N Reddy
Download or read book Theories and Analyses of Beams and Axisymmetric Circular Plates written by J N Reddy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-30 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive textbook compiles cutting-edge research on beams and circular plates, covering theories, analytical solutions, and numerical solutions of interest to students, researchers, and engineers working in industry. Detailing both classical and shear deformation theories, the book provides a complete study of beam and plate theories, their analytical (exact) solutions, variational solutions, and numerical solutions using the finite element method. Beams and plates are some of the most common structural elements used in many engineering structures. The book details both classical and advanced (i.e., shear deformation) theories, scaling in complexity to aid the reader in self-study, or to correspond with a taught course. It covers topics including equations of elasticity, equations of motion of the classical and first-order shear deformation theories, and analytical solutions for bending, buckling, and natural vibration. Additionally, it details static as well as transient response based on exact, the Navier, and variational solution approaches for beams and axisymmetric circular plates, and has dedicated chapters on linear and nonlinear finite element analysis of beams and circular plates. Theories and Analyses of Beams and Axisymmetric Circular Plates will be of interest to aerospace, civil, materials, and mechanical engineers, alongside students and researchers in solid and structural mechanics.
Book excerpt: The contact of a flat, simply-connected axisymmetric indenter with a layered elastic half space is examined. The problem is mathematically formulated using integral transforms to derive singular integral equations for the contact pressure. The solution of these equations is obtained by expansion in orthogonal polynomials. The solution predicts complete contact between the indenter and the surface of the layered half space only for a restricted range of the material and geometrical parameters. Outside of this range, solutions exist with multiple contact regions. A parameter space is divided into zones for single and multiple contact solutions and comparisons are made with the solutions for the analogous plane-strain problem.
Book Synopsis Introductory Attitude Dynamics by : F.P.J. Rimrott
Download or read book Introductory Attitude Dynamics written by F.P.J. Rimrott and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the preface: "The present text deals with attitude dynamics and is devoted to satellites of finite size. It begins with a discussion of the inertia moment tensor, Euler's law, Euler's angles, Euler's equations, and Euler's frequencies. After that a thorough treatment of the concept of centre of gravity versus centre of mass is given. After libration has been discussed and gyrodynamics proper has been dealt with, the attitude of the moment-free satellite, including the gyrostat, is studied. Particular attention is paid to the attitude behaviour of torquefree single and dual spinners, and the new collinearity theorems are introduced and explored to predict attitude stability and attitude drift. The derivation of each significant formula is followed by the discussion of a practical sample problem in order to acquaint the student with typical situations, typical results, and typical numerical values. There are numerous problems following each chapter. The most important data and the answers to the problems are compiled in appendices."
Book Synopsis The Boundary Integral Equatio Method in Axisymmetric Stress Analysis Problems by : A. A. Bakr
Download or read book The Boundary Integral Equatio Method in Axisymmetric Stress Analysis Problems written by A. A. Bakr and published by Springer. This book was released on 1985-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boundary Integral Equation (BIE) or the Boundary Element Method is now well established as an efficient and accurate numerical technique for engineering problems. This book presents the application of this technique to axisymmetric engineering problems, where the geometry and applied loads are symmetrical about an axis of rotation. Emphasis is placed on using isoparametric quadratic elements which exhibit excellent modelling capabilities. Efficient numerical integration schemes are also presented in detail. Unlike the Finite Element Method (FEM), the BIE adaptation to axisymmetric problems is not a straightforward modification of the two or three-dimensional formulations. Two approaches can be used; either a purely axisymmetric approach based on assuming a ring of load, or, alternatively, integrating the three-dimensional fundamental solution of a point load around the axis of rotational symmetry. Throughout this ~ook, both approaches are used and are shown to arrive at identi cal solutions. The book starts with axisymmetric potential problems and extends the formulation to elasticity, thermoelasticity, centrifugal and fracture mechanics problems. The accuracy of the formulation is demonstrated by solving several practical engineering problems and comparing the BIE solution to analytical or other numerical methods such as the FEM. This book provides a foundation for further research into axisymmetric prob lems, such as elastoplasticity, contact, time-dependent and creep prob lems.
