This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Be advised that you read this book at your own risk: chances are, it will at least challenge your conceptual understanding of reality and may even alter forever how you see the world. Norio's Kushi's insights, the windfall of long hours on the road, are the stuff of practical wisdom. The ability to question one's reality is the first requisite of evolutionary change. Awakening-you might also call it spiritual transformation or enlightenment-is neither a solution to life's problems nor a goal to be achieved through personal endeavor but, rather, a ground zero, a place to come from if one is to live a productive and fulfilling life. This is the story of Norio Kushi's journey, how he was born in New York City to Japanese parents, Michio and Aveline Kushi, how he grew up and came of age within the eccentric surroundings of the Boston macrobiotic community of the 1960s and 1970s, and how, since then, he has consistently been guided by his intuition.

Book excerpt: For the first time in English, Stephen Earle tells the epic story of Nakamura Tempu, one of Japan’s most inspirational twentieth-century thinkers and teachers, whose mind-body approach to personal transformation influenced hundreds of thousands, including prominent leaders in government, industry, and the arts. Earle chronicles Tempu’s origins in the samurai tradition, his genius for martial arts, and his work in Manchuria as a spy during the Russo-Japan War of 1904–1905. He relates how, after escaping a Russian firing squad, Tempu contracted tuberculosis; how he embarked on a search for a cure that led to the halls of Columbia University, the salons of Paris, and the foothills of the Himalayas, where he practiced yoga under the tutelage of an Indian guru; and how he not only regained his health but also underwent a spiritual transformation. This transformation laid the groundwork for the secular and practical methodology for self-realization and the cultivation of will that Tempu developed and disseminated to the sick and socially disenfranchised, as well as to princes and prime ministers. Over the course of nine decades, Tempu’s philosophy of mind-body unification has charted a clear and accessible path to mastery over hardship and the ability to meet life’s challenges head-on. Yet, the man, his story, his teachings, and his legacy remain almost unknown outside of Japan—until now. In addition to demonstrating how Tempu’s teachings were significant to Japan’s reconstruction and economic rise following the devastation of World War II, Heaven’s Wind is also an engaging historical narrative, an account of personal transformation, and a clear guide to the practical philosophy of mind-body unity.

Book excerpt: Join renowned spiritual teacher Adyashanti for a practice-based journey out of the thinking mind and into the awakened awareness beyond perceptual reality. For renowned teacher Adyashanti, every single moment contains a doorway into spiritual awakening. But what does it actually mean to “wake up” to the truth of reality? And what does it take to recognize these opportunities? In The Direct Way, Adya (as his students call him) offers a sequence of 30 practices intended to connect with and cultivate ever-greater awareness of the unseen dimensions of your being. From the simple expression of “I am,” to an exploration of the Spiritual Heart, and all the way into the fundamental ground of being, these exercises emphasize that the process of awakening takes “many small glimpses, experienced many times.” Adya concludes with practical pointers on how to integrate transcendent experiences into the everyday fabric of life—including your career, personal goals, and intimate relationships. Here you will discover: How to dis-identify from conceptual, ego-based thinkingPerceiving the ego as a tool to navigate consciousness rather than an obstacleThe “knowing yet empty” quality of foundational awarenessThe surprising route to realizing awareness of the Spiritual HeartFeeling through the Spiritual Heart as a way to experience true interconnectionThe meaning of the Zen teaching phrase, “This very body is the Buddha”Exploring the exhilarating paradox of Being and BecomingHow to establish anchor points to stabilize your journey into the Ground of BeingWhat it means to live each day with “enlightened relativity”How awakening puts control of your experience in your hands—but also the responsibility for it No one experiences awakening quite the same. With The Direct Way, join Adya to discover pathways toward an awareness as wide as the sky and as personal as your innermost heart.

Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking book, one of the world's leading holistic educators introduces the concept of food as a manifestation of energy. He explains how plant foods, and especially cereal grains, represent crystalized sunlight and how the human body uses that energy to create mind and consciousness. He reveals how the awns, tiny hairlike antennae that project from each grain, channel energy from the cosmos and how grains store this energetic blueprint. He then elaborates on the concept of sentience, or the self-awareness possessed by animals, and how animal sentience negatively impacts the consciousness of those who depend upon animals as food. He includes a special chapter on the pineal gland, referred to as the third eye, and presents lifestyle and dietary guidelines for opening the spiritual vision located there. Subsequent chapters explain how the modern diet, based on animal products and processed food, contributes to depression, anxiety, diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease, as well as increased susceptibility to emerging viruses. The book closes with a positive vision of a peaceful universe and healthy and sustainable future. Edward Esko is the founder of the International Macrobiotic Institute and the author of over a dozen books on holistic and natural diet, health, and lifestyle.

J. van der Leeuw and first published in 1928, is remarkable for its very clear exposition of the nature of illusion and the need to pierce its veil and find the reality that exists at every moment of time. “We always seek in the wrong direction,” says Dr. van der Leeuw, “we always want more time; we demand even endless time in our quest of immortality. Yet the infinitely greater Reality is ever ours to enter if we but will.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about spiritual enlightenment-what it is, how it happened for me, and how you might live in such a way that it could happen for you. Few undertakings are more pretentious than writing about Absolute Truth and the "path" to it. For starters, positioning oneself as an authority on the subject is obscenely audacious, and takes a lot of chutzpah. Second, words cannot touch it, so no matter how well you might be able to choose and order yours, the end result will fall so far short of the mark it may as well be an outright lie. And yet, to have something informed to say about Truth and not speak it is almost impossible. To have True Nature reveal Itself to Itself in "your" presence is the greatest gift anyone could ever receive, and leaves you wishing that gift be given to everyone. In the memoir portion of this book, I've tried to focus on stories and life passages I feel in some way may have contributed to my Realization, or to my perspective now, sixteen years later. The last chapters are pretty much straight up "teachings" aimed at helping seekers on their own paths to Realization, and are the raison d'etre for this book at all. The memoir portion mainly serves as a way to get to know who you're listening to if you make it to the latter part, but hopefully it also provides an entertaining read. The things I say about spiritual matters are not intended to inform your mind and bring understanding. They are Trojan horses aimed at destroying all that. I'm not interested in saying things satisfying to the intellect. I'm interested in saying things that might weaken your fascination with a false reality, that might put your mind on shaky ground, that might make you vulnerable to Grace. My actual purpose is to arrange my words in such a way as to cause your mind to collapse in on itself, and there are numerous phrases and passages within this book capable of doing that. Your life, too, is filled with myriad invitations to "Know Thyself." When you are ready-when you have the capacity to receive-the thought that stops the mind will happen and transmission will occur. This is my deepest wish for you, but only if you wish it for yourself.

Book excerpt: A new edition of this spiritual classic with a preface by Stephan Bodian, friend of the late author and the original editor of Collision with the Infinite. Stephan writes: "Since the book first appeared in 1996, spiritual awakening and the nondual perspective it reveals have become increasingly popular among seekers who realize the limitations of progressive practices and want more immediate access to the limitless openness and freedom of their essential nature. At the same time, a number of teachers have emerged who point directly to this truth and invite their students to inquire into their experience, rest in awareness, and realize the truth for themselves. Long before these resources were readily available, Suzanne had a powerful awakening that completely obliterated the illusion of a separate self. But in 1982 she could find no one to guide her through the process, and as a result she spent years in fear, wandering from therapist to therapist, desperately trying to cure herself of being no one, because no one in her world knew what to make of her experience. After a dozen years in the wilderness of what she describes as a spiritual wintertime, she emerged into the radiant springtime of full nondual realization. Because she awoke without a teacher or tradition, and her understanding was so complete, her detailed descriptions of how the vastness functions through these body-minds to realize itself in form are original, and fresh from their source. I'm thrilled to have this spiritual classic back in print, after years of languishing in obscurity. Now I can begin recommending it to my students once again and share with them the clarity of her vision. As I say in the afterword, Suzanne never pretended to be a teacher, preferring instead to call herself a describer of what it's like to live as the vastness. In this profound and articulate memoir, she chronicles her journey, and in the process transmits the wisdom that revealed itself to her." Editorial reviews "Collision with the Infinite is like a diamond on fire with living spirit, and a testament to the strange and wonderful ways that spiritual awakening can unpredictably burst forth in any one of us at any time. Read this book as what it has always been, a modern-day revelation of how spiritual presence came alive in one extraordinarily ordinary woman, and how she embodied it like the sky embodies a shooting star." -Adyashanti "A fascinating, deeply moving account of a powerful spiritual opening and the ensuing process of understanding and integration. The book dispels some of our most cherished myths about spiritual awakening-especially that it is a blissful and easy process. Awakening is not the end of the path, but the beginning of a sometimes difficult journey." -Steve Taylor Ph.D., author of The Leap: The Psychology of Spiritual Awakening

Book excerpt: Richard Rose was an unlikely Zen master: A rugged, plainspoken, ornery West Virginian, he scraped out a living raising goats, planting crops and painting houses. But Richard Rose had a secret: Having once vowed to "find the Truth or die trying," Rose experienced a cataclysmic spiritual awakening at age 30 that thrust him into "Everything-ness and Nothing-ness," or what he called "the Absolute." The experience left him with only one earthly desire: to do anything, for anyone, on a similar quest for Truth.David Gold was an unlikely student: An arrogant, ambitious and egotistical law-student, Gold only agreed to meet the "enlightened hillbilly" in the hopes of showing him up. But when Rose turned the tables by seeing right through Gold and painting a devastatingly accurate picture of the fears and obsessions that ruled his life, a humbled Gold found himself hungry to know more. Thus began a remarkable 15-year adventure-part spiritual odyssey, part legal thriller-in which death threats, corrupt politicians, and life-threatening cancer run parallel to glimpses of the divine and extraordinary manifestations of timeless wisdom."After the Absolute is one of the most gripping, intensely interesting, dramatic, and indeed romantic-heroic-mythic, yet poignantly human accounts I have ever read. It would make a fantastic, if unbelievable film, and is a profoundly important document. This book throws light on the perennial what-and-why enigma of our species, reveals the makings of a "new cosmology," and surely gives glimpses into as-yet undeveloped potentials we humans hold within us. That all this is found in an utterly absorbing narrative proves the old adage that truth is stranger than fiction."-Joseph Chilton Pearce, author of The Crack in the Cosmic Egg, and Magical Child.
