Download or read book All the Good in Evil written by Joe Ricker and published by Down & Out Books. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amos “Moss” Swain is haunted by broken promises…
When a former girlfriend returns and attempts to rekindle their relationship, she becomes an even bigger reminder of how Amos’s three years in prison detoured his life from promising college student to townie leg-breaker. Even more tension mounts when she inadvertently helps him stumble on a score that will finally set him free from the underbelly of his hometown. But every step Amos makes toward redemption creates a new enemy.
A corrupt federal agent, a cop intent on righting the wrongs of the criminal justice system, a high-level drug distributor, and an unstable “business” associate on the verge of a viciously violent meltdown set the backdrop of Amos Swain’s struggle.
As an enemy maelstrom circles around him, a betrayal he’d never imagined drags him deeper into chaos until the only redemption he can find is a little good in evil.

Download or read book Sinatra and Me written by Tony Consiglio and published by Post Hill Press. This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 846 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not many people were allowed inside Frank Sinatra's inner circle. But Tony Consiglio was a boyhood friend of Sinatra's who remained his friend and confidant for over sixty years. One reason Sinatra valued Tony’s friendship is that he could be trusted: Sinatra nicknamed him "the Clam" because Tony never spoke to reporters or biographers about the singer. From the early days when Sinatra was trying to establish himself as a singer to the mid-1960s, Tony worked with Sinatra and was there to share in the highs and lows of Sinatra's life and career. Tony was with Sinatra during his "bobby-soxer" megastar days in the 1940s, and he remained loyal to Sinatra during the lean years of the early 1950s, when "the Voice" was struggling with a crumbling singing and acting career—as well as his tumultuous marriage to Ava Gardner. Tony also had a front row seat to Sinatra's comeback in the 1950s, starting with his Academy Award–winning role in From Here to Eternity and a string of now-classic hit recordings. Tony's friendship with Sinatra allowed him to rub elbows with the Hollywood elite, including Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Kim Novak, Ava Gardner, and many others. It also brought him close to the political world of the early 1960s, when Sinatra campaigned for John F. Kennedy and then helped plan the Kennedy inauguration. Tony was even at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis, Massachusetts, when the election results came in. Sinatra and Me will shed new light on the real Frank Sinatra—from the man who knew him better than anyone.

I think most of them are lonelier than I am….” Her voice trailed off as she read the letter again. “What?” Ivy asked clearly picking up on the change in Cassidy’s voice. Cassidy didn’t want to read the words out loud. With a trembling hand, she passed the letter to Ivy who perused it, her eyes widening before she finished. Fear coursed through them when she looked at Cassidy again. “Does the captain know about this?” Cassidy shook her head. “I doubt it. He gave me the bag, but all the envelopes were inside and so far, they have all been sealed.” Ivy bit her lip as she looked at the still mostly full bag. Then she pulled back her petite shoulders and exhaled. “Let’s finish reading the rest and see if there are any more. Then, I think we need to think about showing this to him.” “I’m sure it’s nothing,” Cassidy began. She didn’t want to make a big display out of it, especially on her first shift back. “Maybe, but what if it’s not? You can’t mess around with this, Cass. This is your life we are talking about.” Ivy was right, but this was not how Cassidy had imagined returning to work. She was already on the captain’s radar. Book Synopsis Pressing the Police and Policing the Press by : Scott Memmel
Download or read book Pressing the Police and Policing the Press written by Scott Memmel and published by University of Missouri Press. This book was released on 2024-06-14 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second half of 2020 and continuing into 2021, protests against racial injustice spread across the United States after the death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis Police Department officers. Members of the press covered these demonstrations, documenting what transpired and conveying the important messages involved. In so doing, the news media held law enforcement accountable through critical reporting on the actions of the police, with police officers responding in part by intimidating journalists in the field using force and arrest—this in the name of keeping the peace and protecting the public from further harm. What transpired during this troubled time cast a bright light on the contemporary relationship between the press and police in the United States. The relationship between these two fundamental institutions is, however, a long and complicated one, dating back to colonial British North America. In the mid-19th century, (1830s–1850s) both the press and the police began to take their modern forms, and since then have continued to develop, routinely interacting with each other as journalists and police officers often found themselves responding to the same crimes and events. At times, members of both institutions managed to co-exist or even cooperate and made efforts to help one another, while at other times they butted heads to the point of conflict, the professional boundaries between journalists and police officers seemingly blurred. As both the press and the police have fallen under deep scrutiny in more modern times, the present moment marks what is, perhaps, an opportune time to focus on the political, economic, social, and technological problems they face. In “Pressing the Police and Policing the Press,” Scott Memmel offers the first book-length study of the history and legal landscape of the press-police relationship. Each chapter focuses on interactions between the press and the police during a particular era, introducing relevant societal context and how both institutions evolved and responded to that context. Memmel concludes his study with recommendations on how, going forward, the press and the police might work together to tackle some of the similar issues they face and better serve the public.
