Download or read book The Self-destruction of the West written by Damien François and published by Editions Publibook. This book was released on 2007 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Crainte de Dieu, Sagesse et Loi written by Katharina Lentz and published by SBL Press. This book was released on 2020-12-28 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Few specific studies have been devoted to Ben Sira 10:19-11:6. Lentz examines the text in Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, and Latin, trying to identify the major differences between these versions and their respective fundamental orientations. In this pericope she reveals three important themes: the fear of God, wisdom, and the law. Taking as a point of departure the theme of the fear of God in Deuteronomy, Psalms, and Proverbs, Job, and Qoheleth, in addition to Ben Sira, Lentz examines the relationship of this theme with wisdom and the law. The close relationship between the fear of God, wisdom, and the law should lead scholars to ask if these do not represent three aspects of the same reality.
Book Synopsis Atheist Manifesto by : Michel Onfray
Download or read book Atheist Manifesto written by Michel Onfray and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This hugely controversial work demonstrates convincingly how the world’s three major monotheistic religions—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam—have attempted to suppress knowledge, science, pleasure, and desire, condemning nonbelievers often to death. Not since Nietzsche has a work so groundbreaking and explosive questioned the role of the world’s three major monotheistic religions. If Nietzsche proclaimed the death of God, Onfray insists that not only is God still very much alive but also increasingly controlled by fundamentalists who pose a danger to the nature of human morality. Documenting the ravages of religious intolerance over the centuries, the author makes a strong case against the three religions for their obsession with purity and their contempt for reason and intelligence, individual freedom, desire, and the human body, as well as their disdain for women, sexuality, and pleasure. In their place, all three demand faith and belief, obedience and submission, extolling the “next life” to the detriment of the here and now. Tightly argued, this is a work that is sure to stir debate on the role of religion in American society—and politics.
Book Synopsis In Defence of Atheism by : Michel Onfray
Download or read book In Defence of Atheism written by Michel Onfray and published by Profile Books. This book was released on 2011-05-26 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty-first century, religion is making a comeback, bringing in its wake extremism of all kinds. From Christian anti-abortion campaigns to suicide bombers claiming the righteousness of Islam, we are witnessing a resurgence of fundamentalism. Michel Onfray's response to the threat of a post-modern theocracy is to lay down the principles of an authentic atheism: exposing the fiction that is God, he proposes instead a new philosophy of reason that celebrates life and humanity. In Defence of Atheism demonstrates that organised religion is motivated by worldly, historical and political power; that the three dominant monotheisms - Christianity, Islam and Judaism - exhibit the same hatred of women, reason, the body, the passions; that religion denies life and glorifies death. Onfray exposes some uncomfortable truths: Judaism invented the extermination of a people; Jesus never existed historically; Christianity was enforced with extreme violence by Constantine; Islam is anti-Semitic, misogynist, warlike and incompatible with the values of a modern democracy.

Download or read book Interprétations de Moïse written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-11-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is the result of a team research which gathered biblical scholars, philologists, and historians of religions, on the issue of the multiple "Interpretations of Moses" inherited from the ancient mediterranean cultures. The concrete outcome of this comparative inquiry is the common translation and commentary of the fragments from the works of the mysterious Artapanus. The comparative perspective suggested here is not so much methodological, or thematic. It is first of all an invitation to cross disciplinary boundaries and to take account of the contributions of diverse cultures to the formation of a single mythology, in the case, a Moses mythology. With respect to Judea, Greece, Egypt or Rome, and further more an emerging christianity and its "gnostic" counterpart, the figure of Moses is at the heart of a cross-cultural dialogue the pieces of which, if they can be seperated for the confort of their specific study, mostly gain by being put together.
Book Synopsis La formation du droit canonique médiéval by : Jean Gaudemet
Download or read book La formation du droit canonique médiéval written by Jean Gaudemet and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume Professor Gaudemet examines the growth and development of the law of the Church. The Decretum of Gratian and the corpus of conciliar legislation, two of its principal sources, figure prominently. While, in these studies, the author's interest lies principally with the investigation of the origins of canon law, he insists that one should not lose sight of the broader context and points to many areas that would repay further study. Church law, for instance, should not be taken in isolation but seen as a reflection of the needs and values of its time.
