Book excerpt: Some stories should never be told. Others have to be—it’s the only way. Since moving back to my hometown of Hastings, Texas, I’ve been called a whore, tramp, and homewrecker. And maybe I’m all of those things and more. But those people don’t know me. They don’t see me. They only see my mistakes. My little brother is my entire world, and if I can give him what I never had—love and security—then returning to the town that hates me will be worth it. I’m prepared for the whispers and stares, but the moment a knight in a black truck crosses my path, it’s clear that I’m not ready for kindness. As he, my brother’s sexy teacher, and the town’s golden boy work to break down my walls by standing between me and the hate, I find myself beginning to hope again. Maybe redemption is within reach...if I share my story. **Love Notes is a series of interconnected, reverse harem standalone novels. Though cheating is a theme throughout Scarlett XOXO, there is no cheating between the main characters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: San Ginese is a village where God lingers in people’s minds and many dream of California, Argentina or Australia. Some leave only to return feeling disheartened, wishing they had never come back, some never leave and forever wish they had. The Fireflies of Autumn takes us to the olive groves and piazzas of this little-known Tuscan village. There we meet Bucchione, who was haunted by the Angel of Sadness; Lo Zena, his neighbour, with whom he feuded for forty years; Tommaso the Killer, the Adulteress, the Dead Boy and many others. These are tales of war and migration, feasts and misfortunes – of a people and their place over the course of the twentieth century. ‘I have never read a migrant tale so original, so breathtaking in scope, or so magical. I have not since stopped thinking about the characters in San Ginese.’ ALICE PUNG ‘Astonishing in the seductiveness and uniqueness of its storytelling. I read it greedily, not wanting to leave San Ginese and return to the real world.’ CHRISTOS TSIOLKAS

Book excerpt: The book is the volume of “The Political History of the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period” among a series of books of “Deep into China Histories”. The earliest known written records of the history of China date from as early as 1250 BC, from the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BC) and the Bamboo Annals (296 BC) describe a Xia dynasty (c. 2070–1600 BC) before the Shang, but no writing is known from the period The Shang ruled in the Yellow River valley, which is commonly held to be the cradle of Chinese civilization. However, Neolithic civilizations originated at various cultural centers along both the Yellow River and Yangtze River. These Yellow River and Yangtze civilizations arose millennia before the Shang. With thousands of years of continuous history, China is one of the world's oldest civilizations, and is regarded as one of the cradles of civilization. The Zhou dynasty (1046–256 BC) supplanted the Shang and introduced the concept of the Mandate of Heaven to justify their rule. The central Zhou government began to weaken due to external and internal pressures in the 8th century BC, and the country eventually splintered into smaller states during the Spring and Autumn period. These states became independent and warred with one another in the following Warring States period. Much of traditional Chinese culture, literature and philosophy first developed during those troubled times. In 221 BC Qin Shi Huang conquered the various warring states and created for himself the title of Huangdi or "emperor" of the Qin, marking the beginning of imperial China. However, the oppressive government fell soon after his death, and was supplanted by the longer-lived Han dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). Successive dynasties developed bureaucratic systems that enabled the emperor to control vast territories directly. In the 21 centuries from 206 BC until AD 1912, routine administrative tasks were handled by a special elite of scholar-officials. Young men, well-versed in calligraphy, history, literature, and philosophy, were carefully selected through difficult government examinations. China's last dynasty was the Qing (1644–1912), which was replaced by the Republic of China in 1912, and in the mainland by the People's Republic of China in 1949.Chinese history has alternated between periods of political unity and peace, and periods of war and failed statehood – the most recent being the Chinese Civil War (1927–1949). China was occasionally dominated by steppe peoples, most of whom were eventually assimilated into the Han Chinese culture and population. Between eras of multiple kingdoms and warlordism, Chinese dynasties have ruled parts or all of China; in some eras control stretched as far as Xinjiang and Tibet, as at present. Traditional culture, and influences from other parts of Asia and the Western world (carried by waves of immigration, cultural assimilation, expansion, and foreign contact), form the basis of the modern culture of China.

It was raining, of course. And he and Sylvie were arguing as he drove down the slick road. No one ever says what they were arguing about. Other people think it's not important. They do not know there is another story. The story that lurks between the facts. What they do not know—the cause of the argument—is crucial. So let me tell you...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing from a wealth of material produced over the course of more than thirty years, Frank A. Littles latest book: Little Notes on Autumn Leaves -- a Collection of New and Selected Poems and Quotes, displays the remarkable range of his Life-Learned Little notes based on his innate observation of the world around him. The introduction is beautifully written, but doesnt do justice to the powerful and unexpected emotions that are provoked by the remainder of this written art. Littles new book opens with quotes and poems from 2008 forward; each one reflecting on, and is inspired by, his life-altering incidental diagnosis of gastric cancer and his formidable unsuspecting follow-on treatment. Previously selected quotes and poems were chosen for their motivational impact on the author himself . . . surviving the seemingly unsurvivable, doing the undoable. Littles poems and quotes reflect the profound impact of his lifes observations. His written words captivate you . . . as they stimulate your innermost thought. Little Notes on Autumn Leaves reads like an elegant and sophisticated runway show where a seasoned fashion designer has finally shared his dearest and most precious garments in an artistic, cohesive expression of love for lifes cycle of changes and renewals. Quietly Powerful! This is Frank A. Little at his best.

But my heart still belongs to his brother, Rylan. And always will. As we enter the Olive Courtyard, I feel the echoes of darkness and foreboding, the fearful tremors of the night before and remnants of the Fear Dorca’s essence and scent. I can’t get the smell of black iris and wild elderberries out of my nostrils. Though they should be pleasant fragrances, they have become the smell of fear and impending doom to me now. All around us, darkness echoes and bounces. There’s no time to lose. If Kylan and I are to save the realms, we must marry now. Before nightfall. Before Jezellion finds out…
