Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to interface patient monitors directly to a computer, and generate a clinical record has existed for over 20 years. However, the acceptance of comprehensive electronic medical records in anesthesia has been slow to develop. Experts anticipate this reluctance is changing because of enhanced patient care through the use of detailed health information record systems. Anesthesia Informatics provides the health informatician and administrator with a comprehensive overview of this blossoming technology. With contributions from leaders in the field, this user-friendly guide addresses how this technology has enhanced both the need for and the ability to collect and apply data in an acute care setting. It also offers invaluable insight on the business implications and the rationales required to make a purchase decision. Each section outlines need to know information to help the reader with the implementation and utilization of an Anesthesia Information Management System. Useful case scenarios focus on the ideal components (anesthesia record, business rationale, communication, collaboration, and training) of a fully automated record-keeping system.

Download or read book Control and Automation in Anaesthesia written by H. Schwilden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book records the presentations given at a workshop held in Bonn in May 1994. The aim of the meeting was to bring together scientists from various disciplines and clinicians to discuss within a group of experts the theoretical, medical, engineering, and regulatory aspects of automated control of therapeutic interventions in. anaesthesiology. The meeting was considered a continuation of a preceding work shop on "Quantitation, Modelling and Control in Anaesthesia" [1], which was held also in Bonn 10 years ago in May 1984. That workshop dealt with problems of how to quantitate concepts like anaesthetic depth, how to model anaesthetic drug disposition, how to link phar macokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and how to use such concepts for the control of anaesthetic drug delivery. With respect to these topics the current proceedings have simultaneously both a broadened and a narrowed perspective. It is broadened in so far as the topics of the workshop did not focus exclusively on anaesthetic drugs and the control of their delivery, but did also discuss anaesthesia machine monitoring and patients therapeutic monitoring as well as control of blood pressure and artificial ventilation. The proceedings have nar rowed the perspective insofar as they do not intensively discuss the processes of quantitation and modelling but presuppose them and give more room to control, especially automated control. During the past 10 years informatics has tremendously expanded its knowledge and methods applicable to control problems.

Book excerpt: "Billions of dollars have been offered through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act and HITECH Act for healthcare providers to use Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to document the care provided to patients. Despite the funding, incentives, and now upcoming penalties, anesthesia providers have been slow to use a type of EMR called Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS). The purpose of this study was to identify barriers and facilitators of anesthesia provider documentation on AIMS." -- from the abstract
Book Synopsis Anesthesia Electronic Medical Record Implementation : a Pilot Launch of EPIC Software by : Carol DiParisi
Download or read book Anesthesia Electronic Medical Record Implementation : a Pilot Launch of EPIC Software written by Carol DiParisi and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " Anesthesia providers who transcribe data by pen and paper are overwhelmed carrying out routine tasks associated with anesthesia care. The purpose of pilot launching an electronic medical record (EMR) known as Epic, was to analyze the impact electronic documentation had on time savings, measured in minutes, on completion of the preanesthetic evaluation. An integrative review of literature driven by a well-formulated PICO was conducted using resources and databases offered through Chatham University's Jennie King Mellon Library. There were 4,329 articles generated from the search; three articles that supported EMRs as a successful intervention to improve efficiency were selected for use in an evidence-based practice change initiative. The project design was structured and guided via the Betty Neuman's Systems Theory and Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations model. Project volunteers were invited to an Epic computer training lab, where they virtually engaged with an electronic preoperative anesthesia template. In total, 62 electronic preoperative evaluations were generated by the sample population; each provider was evaluated twice pre- and post-Epic education. Post-education anesthesia consultation completion time surpassed the benchmark of 20-minutes and demonstrated a 48.1% reduction in time compared to paper charting. An EMR is empirically linked to improved efficiency, decreased cost, decreased total time spent on patient charting, and possibly enhanced quality of care. The doctorate of nursing practice-prepared project implementer utilized these results to correlate the relationship that informational technology may enhance anesthesia work-flow by expediting electronic-based preoperative evaluation completion. Key words: anesthesia, operating room efficiency, electronic medical record, preoperative evaluation " -- Abstract

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Medicine - Therapy, grade: 1, Egerton University, language: English, abstract: This essay will discuss the newly invented technologies in anesthesia. Technological advancement appears to have influenced all aspects of life in the universe leading to remarkable changes in the society. Currently, the world is flooded with new technologies and scientific discoveries and, more are still emerging. This implies that these new technologies and scientific inventions will exert an immense impact on society. However, the wave of technological advancements seems to favor some fields with others experiencing the shock of technology impact. Interestingly, the field of healthcare and medicine are some of the beneficiaries of the newly emerging technologies; hence, medical practice has become relatively sophisticated owing to advanced delivery of care, treatment of chronic diseases and identification of newly emerging diseases and health conditions. It is worth noting that healthcare systems and the scope of medical sciences of the 21st Century are relatively different from the 19th Century versions because the impact of technological developments in the last decade seems to have transformed healthcare delivery systems with some of the newly invented technologies producing extraordinary performances. However, it is worth noting that technological advancement in healthcare and medicine has not only led to the discovery of new drugs but, it has also improved safety and precision in clinical investigations. Moreover, it has led to the emergence of new medical procedures, which have, in turn, improved the quality of care offered to patients by healthcare professionals. For instance, the practice of anesthesia, which is seemingly built on technological advances, appear to have achieved a remarkable progress, especially with regard to the quality of care, owing to a number of technologies developed in the past decade.
