En el caso de Mxico las cifras son consistentes, esta situacin impide que un buen nmero de mujeres pueda tener una vida saludable pues su salud mental se ve afectada por la violencia. Este estudio presenta informacin sobre la magnitud de la violencia de pareja, en especial contra las mujeres residentes en Tijuana. / This study explores empirically the existing relation between self-esteem and conjugal violence, seen through the eyes of both members of a couple. It establishes that there is a relation between violence to an abused woman and her level of education, her self-esteem within the couple, and her general self-esteem. Violence towards women is, according to the United Nations, the most numerous unpunished crime in the world; according to recent surveys around the world, between 10 and 50% of women accept having being beaten or physically abused by their partners; and between 21 and 46% declare to have been abused in some way, although maybe not physically. Se encuestaron a 120 mujeres de todas las edades, quienes sufrían o habían sufrido violencia generada por su pareja y acudieron en demanda de ayuda al Centro de Desarrollo Integral para la Familia 8DIF). El procedimiento consistió en aplicar la encuesta de violencia y el cuestionario de autoestima, estos instrumentos fueron aplicados en diferentes modalidades y horarios. El objetivo fue medir distintos grados de violencia en sus diferentes modalidades: violencia física, emocional, sexual y económica. Además medir el nivel de autoestima de las mujeres maltratadas.
