Die polizeiliche Kriminalstatistik 2011 belegt, dass die erfassten Fälle von Sexualverbrechen an Kindern erneut zugenommen haben.Insgesamt wurden 2010 in Deutschland 12.444 Taten registriert.Diese Zahl erhöhte sich, im Vergleich zur vorhergehenden Kriminalstatistik, um 4,9 Prozent.Die Dunkelziffer wird weiterhin als sehr hoch eingeschätzt. Der Besitz und die Beschaffung von Kinderpornografie haben mit fast 3900 registrierten Fällen, ebenfalls drastisch zugenommen und im Vergleich zum Vorjahr eine Steigerung von 23,3 Prozent erfahren. Sexualisierte Gewalt bedeutet immer einen massiven Eingriff in die Persönlichkeit eines Menschen und stellt ein tiefes, traumatisches Erlebnis dar, welches die seelische Integrität immens bedroht und auf Dauer schädigen kann.Viele Betroffene entwickeln im Laufe ihres Lebens die unterschiedlichsten Symptome und Krankheitsbilder.So suchen sie Therapien auf wegen Identitätsproblemen, Sexualproblemen, Depressionen, psychosomatischen Beschwerden, selbstverletzendem Verhalten, gestörtem Essverhalten, Bulimie, Magersucht sowie Suchtkrankheiten wie Alkohol-, Drogen- und Medikamentenabhängigkeit.Die Bandbreite an Folgeerscheinungen ist äußerst vielfältig und von Mensch zu Mensch sehr individuell zu betrachten, denn jeder Mensch hat seine eigene Lebensgeschichte, Ressourcen und Coping-Strategien vorzuweisen, um das traumatisch Erlebte zu verarbeiten und zu reintegrieren.Bei der Schwere einer sexuellen Traumatisierung gelingt dies meist nur bedingt, wodurch sich häufig die obigen Krankheitsbilder, im Sinne von Langzeitfolgen, herausbilden können.Die Schamschwelle ist hoch.Oft liegt ein Tabu, ein Familiengeheimnis, über diesem Thema, welches einige Betroffene dazu veranlasst, nie über ihre Missbrauchserfahrung zu berichten... Book excerpt: Anthropologists have written a great deal about the coastal adaptations and seafaring traditions of Pacific Islanders, but have had much less to say about the significance of rivers for Pacific island culture, livelihood and identity. The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?

Book excerpt: The current book presents select proceedings from the Eleventh Annual Conference of AASMI (The American Association for the Study of Mental Imagery) in Washington, DC, 1989, and from the Twelfth Annual Conference of AASMI in Lowell and Boston, MA, 1990. This presentation of keynote addresses, research papers, and clinical workshops reflects a broad range of theoretical positions and a diverse repertoire of methodological approaches. Within this breadth and diversity, however, four aspects of the nature of imagery stand out: its mental nature, its private nature, its conscious nature, and its symbolic nature. The mental nature of imagery--i.e., its epistemological aspect--is explored in the book's first section of articles by Marcia Johnson, Laura Snodgrass, Leonard Giambra and Alicia Grodsky, Vija Lusebrink, Selina Kassels, Helane Rosenberg and Yakov Epstein, M. Elizabeth D'Zamko and Lynne Schwab, and Laurence Martel. These first eight articles fall, essentially, into various domains of cognitive psychology, including the psychology of art and educational psychology. In the second section, the private nature of imagery is studied by Ernest Hartmann, Nicholas Spanos, Benjamin Wallace, Deirdre Barrett, John Connolly, James Honeycutt, Dominique Gendrin, and James Honeycutt and J. Michael Gotcher. These studies, which fall within the realm of personality and social psychology, bring to light the fact that many very public interpersonal behaviors reflect very private images. Such behaviors range from interpersonal rapport with a hypnotist, to rapport with a forensic jury.
