Book Synopsis Climate Dynamics of the Tropics by : S. Hastenrath
Download or read book Climate Dynamics of the Tropics written by S. Hastenrath and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of my book "Climate and Circulation of the Tropics" was reasonably up to date to the middle of 1985. In a second printing in 1988 it was possible to complete a few literature references and to correct some misprints. However, vigorous research has taken place over the past five years in various areas of tropical climate dynamics, especially in the atmosphere-ocean mechanisms of climate anomalies, climate prediction, ocean circulation, and paleoclimates. Promising progress has also been made in the application of general circulation modelling to tropical climate problems. In the present second edition, named "Climate Dynamics of the Tropics", I have attempted to incorporate much of the recent work to late 1990. Chapters 8 and 9 have been essentially re-written, and major additions have been made to Chapters 4 and 12 in particular. I would like to acknowledge the continued support by the U.S. National Science Foundation over the past five years. B. Parthasarathy, Poona, and H. Lessmann, San Salvador, sent me updates of data series not easily accessible. I have benefitted from discussions with numerous colleagues in the United States and overseas. In the preparation of this second edition, Marilyn Wolff patiently transferred my illegible hand-written drafts onto word processor. Dierk Polzin and Dan Skemp assisted me with the creation of the page masters and the subject index and Christopher Collimore with the author index.
Book Synopsis Atlas of Monthly Mean Sea Surface and Subsurface Temperature and Depth of the Top of the Thermocline by : Margaret K. Robinson
Download or read book Atlas of Monthly Mean Sea Surface and Subsurface Temperature and Depth of the Top of the Thermocline written by Margaret K. Robinson and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interim Atlas of the North Pacific and Adjacent Seas presents monthly charts of temperature for the sea surface and, for the first time, the subsurface levels at 100 ft. increments to 400 ft. The atlas is based, primarily, on bathythermography (BT) data collected at Scripps Institution of Oceanography during the past 29 years from U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships, and ships of scientific institutions. Book Synopsis The Global Climate by : John T. Houghton
Download or read book The Global Climate written by John T. Houghton and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1985-09-05 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback, this book has succeeded in its aim to introduce the global climate problem and the complex processes and interactions which play a part in climatic change to a wide range of scientists working in climatic research or the related fields of meteorology, oceanography, glaciology and hydrology. It is centred around the World Climate Research Programme, an international enterprise jointly sponsored by the scientific community (through the International Council of Scientific Unions) and the national weather centres (through the World Meteorological Organisation). If progress is to be made in understanding climatic change, it is necessary to observe and understand all components of the climate system and the interactions between them. This book is particularly relevant to many contemporary climatic problems and to the two most important questions arising tom them: to what extent can changes in climate be predicted; and what is the extent of man's influence on climate. The Global Climate answers these questions, showing how the important processes may be -observed, evaluated and modelled by computer.
Book Synopsis Sea Level Changes And Their Effects, Ocean And Atmosphere Pacific: Oap 95 by : John Noye
Download or read book Sea Level Changes And Their Effects, Ocean And Atmosphere Pacific: Oap 95 written by John Noye and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-01-19 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains updated, reviewed versions of some selected papers on “Sea-Level Changes and their Effects” presented at the International Ocean and Atmosphere Pacific Conference (OAP 95), held in Adelaide, South Australia, 23-27 October 1995. In addition several reviewed articles on important topics not covered by the papers presented at OAP 95 were invited. The articles in this volume will find an audience among coastal developers, marine biologists and environmentalists. They cover a range of topics including the efforts of long-term sea-level rise on coastal flows and its impact on mangrove communities, the determination of long-term sea-level change relative to the vertical motion of the land, to the numerical modelling of short term sea-level changes due to tides, tsunamis and the weather.

Book Synopsis Ecological Geography of the Sea by : Alan R. Longhurst
Download or read book Ecological Geography of the Sea written by Alan R. Longhurst and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth discussion of the biological and ecological geography of the oceans. It synthesizes locally restricted studies of the ocean to generate a global geography for the vast marine world. It attempts to divide the ocean into distinguishable regions that permit detailed comparisons. Based on patterns of algal ecology, the book divides the ocean into four primary compartments, which are then subdivided into secondary compartments. The secondary compartments are identified and characterized by biogeochemical features including nutrient dynamics, continental shelf topography, and algal blooms. Because ocean-wide regional classification has broad impact on the way oceanographers and ecologists study ocean patterns, this book should have wide and long-term appeal.
